Had an excellent experience at The Basin a week ago last Saturday. The food was exceptional and the service was fantastic. We sat in a lovely, very private, outdoor area under a magnificent oak tree. The weather and atmosphere were perfect for al fresco dining. Five of us decided to order a number of appetizers and entrees to share amongst ourselves. We were not disappointed. The oysters were fresh and bright tasting. The ahi and avocado melted in our mouths. The burger and fried chicken sandwiches were yummy and standouts for common menu items. The halibut was outstanding. The risotto with mushrooms was creamy and full of flavor. The short ribs served with polenta were flavorful, juicy, and tender. I can not believe we ate as much as we did.(The portion sizes are very generous) The little bit of after dinner groaning was worth it. This is now one of my favorite places anywhere with a bar.  The owners are super fun amazing people, food is to die  for.  I am drinking a Guinness float, and it's surprisingly good.

I've lived in the area for many years but never tried the Basin. Apparently the owner, Daniel is new. I read about his efforts to help the local neighborhoods in the Mercury and his take-out offerings. Since then I have tried the chicken noodle soup, breakfast burrito, 3 cheese pizza, veggie burger, salsa, guacamole, banana bread and lasagna. It was all 5 stars in quality, taste. We went to The Basin last night to pick up a take out meal for a date night...wow - unbelievably good! We ended up getting the short rib tacos and chicken enchiladas suizas and they were seriously some of the best we've ever had. Give yourself a night off and treat yourself to a delicious dinner!!! We ordered the take-out steak taco bar. It was fabulous! !! (Steak ($100), Chicken ($55) and veggie also available). Includes meat, black beans, rice, tortillas, 2 insanely good salsas (hot roasted red and yummy mild green) and chips. They say it feeds 4-6 but we made it last two nights for 4! Very generous portions, so a great deal too! We had requested guacamole in our online order note-they didn't notice the request til later SO... 30 minutes later Chef Daniel himself showed up at our door with 2 divine tubs of guacamole!!! Chef Daniel and his hard working team are doing amazing things during this unprecedented time. The focus on what people really need right now  is commendable. For the time being, it seems as if they have shifted their fine dining approach to more of a "family" dining experience. We recently had the short rib tacos and they absolutely blew us away! Had a wonderful experience at the Basin last night with two girlfriends. I have been coming to the basin for years. I love the new spark that the new chef and owner bring.  I had the salmon over pea risotto - my mouth is watering just writing about - delicious.  We shared the crab cakes, which  were traditional with a little spin.  My friend had the Vegan Platter, though she is not "vegan" and really enjoyed it.  The bread was salty and yummy.  We paired our dinner with Laurent Perrier Rose and the Philly Fume.  I will go back soon and recommend it!  Congratulations Daniel I was just coming back to post another review and saw I forgot to list this- I wrote it back on December 10, 2019.  Have been back several times and always good.But today - April 22 is my birthday.  We ordered burgers to go. They were the best.  We were calling them "Five napkin-Burgers". They were juicy and really well-flavored.  I considered myself a bit of a burger aficionado.  This burger was at the top of the list- quite traditional, but somehow rising above the plain backyard burger.  Can't wait to try Taco Tuesday More...

We ordered a lovely Peruvian chicken dinner tonight which was enough to feed our family of four. Â Everything was beautifully presented! Ingredients were top notch: fresh and very delicious. Â Sauces for chicken and salad dressing made everything even more delightful. The Basin gets 5 Stars for sure! I would give more if I could. Excellent service, delicious food and beautiful ambience. My husband and I enjoyed the butter lettuce salad, caesar salad, scrumptious sea bass, divine pasta arrabiata, and the grand finale the molten chocolate bomb was The Bomb! My rating system is a possible star for: food, drinks, service, ambiance, and "other."Food: +1 star. Really good. We had the (giant) pork chop and the rotisserie chicken with the creamy polenta. Absolutely delish. Drinks: +1 star. Full bar, great selection. I love the zin they have. Service: +1 star. Excellent. I called ahead and the guy we spoke to was so warm and inviting. Our server, Gabby, was wonderful. Our waters never got empty, and we felt very attended to. Really happy with the pace of our meal as well. The food came out fast, but not so fast that we didn't have time to devour the delicious house bread. Ambiance: +1 star. Cute, romantic, classic, candles on all the tables. We've been a few times, but the most recent time was for our 3 year wedding anniversary. It's a place where you know you'll love the food, service, and experience every time. I was here for a date night based on a recommendation from a colleague who loves this place. The ahi tuna was excellent. The scallops were good and note the horseradish has a kick to it. Service was attentive and friendly. Â We met a nice older couple who were sitting next to us and talked about how they love The Basin and are there every week. Came in two days ago, with my good friend who are both foodies and sommelier. To start the fried Brussels sprouts were a stroke of genius of simplicity in a ever changing culinary world. To die for. Next the 22oz New York steak almost made me loose it for how well  it paired with my favorite winery Bodegas Muga Prado Anea 16. We had a fabulous experience at the Basin last night. We started with the tuna tartare and Brussels sprouts, both were fresh and prepared perfectly. The yogurt tahini on the Brussels sprouts was light and a great accompaniment to the veggies. The mushroom pasta and fish were delicious. The vegan at the table appreciated the great vegan main course, great portion and nicely presented. Had dinner at The Basin on 10/27/19. My friend and I had fish entrees with heirloom tomato salads. The creamy burrata cheese and light dressing was a great complement to the flavorful tomatoes. If you happen to be in the area, be sure to stop off at The Basin. Â The butternut squash soup was good with a hint of spice. Â The duck was fabulous! Â It was tender, perfectly cooked and seasoned with a just a touch of sweetness. Â The NY steak did also not disappoint. Â I couldn't get enough of the sauce...it was awesome.
