What a cosmic lottery to have this place at The Crossroads?! I came in for the first time on Friday comedy night and I felt like I was in a city of consequence on a night to make excellent bad decisions. Bitchin' $5 wine(s)happy hour with stuff you actually WANT to drink, simple but just whimsical enough wee snacks around the edges and a bartender who reminds me of Isabella Rossellini in the best independent movie that was never(but should have been)made.They also have a turntable which is screaming to me to bring some Donny Hathaway, but I digress.These folks have done right by the room.As far as the comedy? Mad props for the courage displayed by the comics, lot of new to the game folk but they did alright.But what the heck do I know? I'm a bartender for crying out loud!Anyhoo, check out The Annex quick, fast, in a hurry(to quote Flava Flav from Public Enemy)and you'll have yourself a time....Or my name ain't Nathan Arizona! Carmel has a lot of tasting rooms featuring some great local wines but this wine bar - they refer to as a 'social club' takes wine bars to a different experience. Fun, light hearted and colorful decor with a lot of plants and colorful wallpaper but with a Serious wine list. Very cute spot- love the jungle decor. Lots of booths and bar seating. They have a larger menu than I was expecting and select glasses are $5 on Fridays! Staff were attentive and friendly.
