I have been going to this gym for a little over 1 year now. I would like to say they currently have such a friendly staff in all areas, childcare included. The gym is always clean and stocked with towels. Recently, there was an event that happened, details not needed. But let me say how professional Cherie, the operations manager was! I was in town for only a short while, and they sold me a short term guest pass. I really wanted to work out in their studio too practice tae kwon do. The studio is big and quiet. They have lots of machines, saunas and specialized workout rooms with free weights and spinning. They were super friendly and very helpful. I really appreciate their service. More...

I've had other gym memberships elsewhere in anchorage & by far this place is the BEST for Families. The play center always has awesome childcare providers who are competent and nurturing towards the children. The kids love the pool, slide and hot tub! Game room with rock climbing walls keep them busy for hours. Work out rooms are equipped with lots of gym equipment WiFi, cable and Netflix. Ive lost close to 100lbs no joke just by utilizing the amazing classes from water aerobics to p90x. I feel like this gym improved my quality of life. Alright, I've been holding off on this update for a bit to make sure I was certain, but here we are. Previously I gave the South Club a 3/5 review on what I had used--locker rooms, cardio room, weight room--and I believe that I should update that. They have updated both the locker rooms and the cardio machines since my last review, for the better.  The women's locker room--and the men's I assume-- got a light refresh and some updates, but nothing notable. Some repainting in more modern colors, new lockers in a red stained wood, and some art pieces were added to the walls. Looks nicer for sure. However, the star of this update is the updated cardio room. The new machines run really smoothly, no clangs or bangs, and have a greater integration with the Alaska Club app. On top of that, most of the new machines allow for BlueTooth connection so you can use your workout headphones to listen to the shows they have available. The new machines also have some apps preloaded on them, but I haven't really poked around those yet, so I won't weigh in. All in all, I like the updates they did, and the ease of use in the new machines. Bumping my original review up to a 4/5. More...

I love this gym. I've never enjoyed gyms very much because I never really knew what I was doing and I always prefer to be outside anyway. I came to Alaska to work for the season and ended up with some very serious back pain that threatened to prevent me from working. I was spending a fortune on massages. I figured I could get my money's worth out of the gym membership simply through the massages, sauna, hydromassage chair, and jacuzzi. That was my plan. I discovered that I really appreciated their high quality equipment, the energy and cleanliness of the gym, and the other people going to the gym. My favorite thing ended up being the group classes. I tried almost all of them and found myself planning my day around them. The teachers are great, the classes fun, and I benefitted a great deal from each class. My back pain went away and I was able to finish out my job. I am sad to be leaving Alaska and will miss this gym! More...

I just hit my year with TAC and they rewarded me by increasing my already outrageous monthly membership by $2 a month . I just really don’t like the hairballs floating around in the women’s locker room all the time. Otherwise, they are the only place in the valley with a pool, sauna, steam room and they know it. Would like to see if Planet Fitness forces them to lower their prices. More...

Staff: The staff at this location and all the locations I have been to are an absolute delight. They are always friendly and helpful, and I've never had a bad experience. Gym: The equipment in the main weight room area is nice and generally well kept. There is also a lot of equipment so you can always adapt your exercises if someone is using a specific thing you wanted. Also, there are multiple squat racks, and plenty of benches. They have multiple different kinds of squat sleds as well, for those looking to diversify.Cardio: The cardio room at this club and all the ones I have been to is absolutely stacked with equipment. Ski machine, row, stairs, elliptical, treadmills, bikes, etc. Training: The team training room is pretty awesome, has nice and varied equipment, and even has turf! Though I have not attended any of the classes, I have seen the workouts written on the board and they look top-notch. The trainers are also super friendly every time I interact with them.Amenities: The Alaska Club offers a lot of amenities standard with a membership, and then more advanced pay options. Standard things are access to the pool, hot tub, etc. The locker rooms are also pretty nice, have nice wooden lockers, a locker room hot tub, sauna, and steam room. They also provide free clean towels all over the entire facility. As far as the child care, family training room, massage, etc., I cannot comment as I have never used them. Price: So a lot of people are upset about the price of the club, and I can say it's not cheap. However, having had a lot of experience in many different gyms, it's really not that bad. My only complaint is that they offer either single membership or family, but no couples membership. My wife and I don't have any kids... It seems pretty crazy to make people pay the rate that a family would pay, assuming that they use enough amenities to compensate for the cost; I.e. kids play room, family oriented activities, etc.Other things: As far as other complaints that people have about the "corporate" office or membership line, I have no opinion; having never had to interact with them at all. However, when you sign up they automatically send you a paper statement, which costs $5 even if you have auto pay (which they don't mention). You'd imagine that having auto pay setup and an email on file would indicate the person doesn't want a paper bill. That was pretty annoying, but not the end of the world. Overall I give it a 5 out of 5 stars. If anything changes I will update my review. Thinking about signing up? West location is a very nice small gym perfect for on-the-go workouts . Iv been a memeber for years!! The only concern is, that the SO called MANAGER at the west club. Does NOT DO HiS JOB. Only thing iv seen him do is pick up the hand towels and even then he leaves all the dirty towels in the basket for days., only 10 new towels a day!!! The cleaning Lady's keep the gym usually clean.
