Texas Bar-B-Q Joint

I've lived in Austin, Texas for 24 years.  I can't begin to count the hours I've spent tending to a smoker trying to perfect my brisket or ribs or chicken or anything else I could stuff in there.  I've also had the pleasure of judging submissions in the Taylor International BBQ Cookoff.  I think I'm qualified to offer an opinion on what is good BBQ and what isn't.  Texas BBQ Joint is good BBQ.   I've tried every BBQ place I could find in the greater Rochester area and this is the only one I've been to twice.  I liked it so much I even had them cater our wedding (my wife is an Austin native so it wasn't a hard sell).Go for a visit, you wont regret it.  Unless you eat an entire Outlaw Potato by yourself.  Share it with someone.  It's tasty as hell and it's huge.I think I'll have a nap now. Great dry rub BBQ! The owner is so nice and accommodating. I have celiac disease so I need to be careful when eating out. The have so many gluten free options to choose from . The signature Monster Outlaw Potato is our family's favorite! We always leave full and always have leftovers to take home because it is not an exaggeration, it's monster sized. We love all of the bbq meats here, but my favorite hands-down, is the brisket - BBQ or sliced, it's cooked to perfection every single time. Moist, tender and the perfect ring of smoke.Not only is the food great, but there is a table of complementary fixins', too - pickles, jalapenos, onions and more AND a warm pot of soup/beans to enjoy. And while the fixins' are free, they are also a fundraising effort. All donations placed in the jar next to the warm pots of deliciousness allow Texas BBQ to give back and warm hearts across the community.And, Texas BBQ Joint gives back to their loyal customers through rewards and points, too. Each year on my birthday I get a text message reminding me to come in for my complementary birthday-tater! And after another visit or two, I'll have enough points for a free jar of bbq sauce. Can't beat that!At my house, we're fussy about our bbq, but if you're on the fence, you can't go wrong at Texas BBQ Joint. It's a great home cooked meal in a comfortable setting and you will always leave full. And if you're not sure which location to go to, we've been happy to find the same quality of food and service in Greece at the Potato Shack and at RIT as we have found at the original Spencerport location.As an aside, now that the holidays are close, we're looking VERY forward to ordering our smoked turkeys. A decently-great BBQ joint that has hit or miss menu items. Personally I really dislike their house-made bbq sauce, it's not great and so many places offer far better along with far more options (BUT they do offer their bbq sauce warmed up, which is a fantastic plus even if I dislike it personally). Their burger is godawful though, and so is their bbq chicken. The sides at least have all been decent to good, and I've tried them all. I think their best sandwich is their cheese's sliced, while an unusual name, is fantastically great. Brisket, cheddar cheese, tomato, fried jalapeño and applewood bacon, all in one solid bite thanks to their extremely good brisket and crispy bacon.But... but really, we're all here for the Outlaw Potato. A massive, no really, a MASSIVE potato loaded with butter, cheese, sour cream, bacon, chives and a heaping pile of meat on top. I'd suggest the chopped brisket and extra meat. Also, this is huge, like this potato will be your dinner huge with leftovers. Unfortunately on several occasions I've gotten an under-cooked potato, which is partially surprising when it's the literal base of an order and they don't check. Thankfully though everything else can make up for it.Texas Bar-b-q joint is a pretty good bbq place, but really at this point I only ever visit it for one of those potatoes. First time visit.  I tried the 3 meat special with two sides.  Brisket, Ribs and Chicken. Sides: breaded twizzler fries, sweet creamy coleslaw and hush puppies ($27 with tax - seemed a bit pricey).  The whole meal was hot and very tasty.  The place was clean and the staff was very courteous and attentive.  Process: You order at the counter when you come in, find a table and then wait to be called. I found myself in Spencerport for work today and when looking for a lunch place a lot of the folks at the conference said to give this a try. We were not disappointed!  My friend ordered the cowboy potato which came loaded with butter sour cream cheese bacon and was one of the largest big potatoes I've ever seen! I opted to try a selection of four sides for $7.99. This was a great way to sample a number of things on the menu. Their baked beans are Kickin... But not for vegetarians. Beautiful pieces of bacon and a pulled pork Dotted the beans - saucy and sweet with a tiny touch of heat! Amazing!! My second favorite side was their coleslaw... Creamy and tangy. The Mac salad was an interesting shaped pasta kind of a cork screw fusilli and a bit of black pepper flavor .. The mashed potatoes with brown gravy were tasty although lumpy. At least we knew they were from real potatoes and not a box!A neat note is that they offer free soup either while you wait for takeout or with your meal if your dining in. There is a donation box at the back and you can donate however much you would like and the money is given to a different charity. First off, I would like to say that Texas BBQ is good for other reasons than mentioned in this review, but I could only include so many appraisals in one review. The menus here at Texas BBQ are absolutely wonderful. There are 3 different types of menus at this location. - The very nice flat screen tv menu- The very nice LAMINATED!! big menus on the counter- The very nice paper option which you could take home for all your pick-up-order needs. Also, they played "Sky full of stars" by Coldplay over the loudspeaker while I was eating. I don't think there could be a better song to listen to while I eat my absolutely wonderful pulled pork sandwich on a delicious hard roll. Finally the drink was soo cool I could never have imagined that they would sell Cherry flavored Dr. Pepper. I mean, isn't Dr. Pepper already cherry flavored? Out of towner here. Stopped in after a workout and needed some hearty food and was in the mood for BBQ. This place popped up and had good reviews. Cool location right down by the canal in Spencerport and a cozy, dark motif inside. Ordered from the bar and took about 10m for the food.I normally get brisket wherever I go and always get a platter...BUT...did not like the sides offered. I decided to go with the loaded potato and it was LOADED!! Don't get this if you are not hungry because it is a calorie bomb and was very good. The brisket was good but not the best I've ever had. A tad on the dry side which was surprising since the had just opened for the day but pretty solid.My one piece of advice would be to offer some sort of unbreaded vegetable side. For almost every legit Texas BBQ join that have ever been to and I have been to a lot, they offer collards which are an art in an of themselves.  Very strange there were no collards on the menu.Overall, a solid place and 4 starts. I'm going to give this place five stars. I have been there a lot of times and I wouldn't say that it's always a five-star meal. However, I love it there. My favorite thing to get is the LI potato. It's a potato about the size of your head loaded with all of your potato favorites plus your choice of pulled pork beef or chicken. You could also get the brisket, but I don't like the brisket. There are soups available while you're waiting for your food to get done, it's usually pinto bean or loaded potato. Always choose the pinto bean which usually has giant chunks of rib meat in it. Pro tip: eat at least a whole bowl of soup and bring over half of your potato home for later. On a super busy day at park point, we went in to get some food and they gave us the biggest plate of barbecue I've ever had. I'm extremely full. My boyfriend and I split a plate and she ended up giving us an extra cornbread (as if we needed one, because were so full) and they were so extremely nice. This might be my new favorite bbq place. This joint is quite a bargain at lunchtime with a variety of sandwiches, sides,  beverage, and free soup for about $8. The added incentive for First Responders on the first Tuesday of each month of a $6 price tag was an even better reason to visit today. I enjoyed some bean and beef soup (there was also vegetarian potato) while waiting for my take-out order of pulled pork sandwich and mashed potatoes .  The portion was generous enough to put half away for another lunch or snack later.  Gravy choice was brown or white for the potatoes; I chose the brown which was thick and tasty.  Everything we've tried at this location has been what I can best term as "clean BBQ" with everything freshly prepared and plated so you can enjoy BBQ and return to work not covered with sauce!  Of course,  you can add more if you wish.Thank you to the management for recognizing the contributions of Fire/EMS/Law Enforcement to the community.  I support this establishment in return. I love BBQ and this may be my favorite BBQ place in Rochester. The food is always very tasty! The expanded menu at the other two locations is definitely worth the drive too, but the shack is great for a convenient meal!

Stopped in mid-day on a Saturday and were able to grab great food, ready in minutes. Enjoyed a Shiner Bock while we waited. We weren't super hungry, so we split the 2 meat plate. 2 sides. Brisket and pulled pork. Both meats were incredibly tender and had great flavor. Tater tots were nice and crispy. Mac and cheese wasn't my favorite, so I would try a different 2nd side next time.  Didn't try the cole slaw bc it said they use a sweet dressing and I like more of a vinegar base. We've been coming here for years and absolutely LOVE it. I've never gotten anything here that I don't like. I usually get the outlaw potato with BBQ chicken on it which is a ridiculous amount of food. I have a hard time finishing it and the monster outlaw is even bigger! The chicken on it is the best I've ever had. My husband gets the salad and it's also HUGE and only $6.99. The corn bread muffins are amazing.... really sweet... but amazing. Took some customers to Texas BBQ Joint at RIT.  They all sat down at a table and I had to advise them that you order the food at the counter- then wait for them to yell your name when it's ready. Nothing wrong with that!   I love BBQ so I was looking forward to this.  They had a few big screens with many options to order so I felt a little overwhelmed and ordered the "lunch special" - a sandwich and one side.  I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich with Tina's potato salad on the side.      The sandwich was excellent- like pulled pork but a little lighter- and a great bun.  I loved Tina's potato salad - they said it has egg in it but I had a chunk that I think was 1/2 of a hard boiled egg.  Nice touch!  And it was seasoned perfectly.      They have bbq and hot sauces to add at a main table/ bar in the middle and a huge bucket of pickles to chow on too.      Good job- go Texas! Ah, Texas Bar-B-Q Joint. How I love thee. Look, I'm not claiming to be a BBQ expert or anything, but this place is close to work and therefore my coworkers and I get food here when we feel like treating ourselves. The menu is quite large - the Cuban sandwich is one of my favorites. Large, meaty, and flavorful. Their Outlaw potatoes are like baked potatoes on steroids - enough for two people to share!!!! All of the sides are delicious as well: I recommend the macaroni and cheese, the onion petals, the cajun corn, or the hush puppies. They also always have FREE soup available as well: typically baked potato and pinto. The baked potato is good: not the best I've ever had but for free soup it's pretty dang delicious! I wouldn't say this place tops Dinosaur BBQ or Sticky Lips or anything, but if you're around RIT I recommend checking this place out!!! More...

So, I've been coming to this place for many years, but finally decided to do a review on this place. First and foremost, kudos to the owners for the superb service received on Small Business Saturday. I've been coming here every SBS and for the first time, the secret really got out and the line was out the front door through the back door. However, the line went fast. I tip my hat to them in this regard. Secondly, there is Dinosaur BBQ, which is amazing in their own accord, but if you're looking for top notch BBQ without the wait and a more family friendly setting, this is your place. This place has everything you could ever dream of and more. They're always adding new items to the menu and they're always tweaking their greats. The mac n' cheese is the best I've ever had. Their brisket is to die for, and if you haven't had their sliced turkey breast, well, you haven't had turkey yet. The corn bread melts in your mouth. They have over 20 sides to choose from and I can't wait to try their steaks, just noticed them on the menu while waiting in line. What makes this place a cut above the rest is their CUSTOMER SERVICE. It's a family run business and all their employees have always treated us like family. If they ever make a mistake (e.g. order mac n cheese and they give you mac salad) they go above and beyond to make it right. There's something special about this place so when it came time to find a place to cater our baby shower, we of course chose Texas BBQ! To cook that amount of food and have everything ready at the precise time and to have it taste like everything just came off the grill/oven, is just mind blowing. Hands down a Top 5 restaurant in the 585. I'm waiting for the day for them to put smoked wings on the menu, and I know it's coming down the pipeline, but that's the only thing this place is missing. Absolutely love this place! I got the armadillo plate (a monster outlaw potato topped with butter, bacon, sour cream, chives, a ton of cheese and succulent bbq brisket. Plus a full rack of incredible ribs and a corn bread muffin) I absolutely loved every bit of the meal, food is legit Texas bbq all the way down to the little details of the sliced white bread available near your silverware. Not only was the food delicious but after I finished I inquired about the free shirt for finishing and the woman working told me the location I was at didn't have any but took my info and called another location and promptly called me back to get my shirt size and said they are going to call me when my shirt comes in, now that is incredible service!
