About

The Tennis and Fitness Centre has been locally owned by dozens of local families since 1983. The goal is to ensure that a recreation site such as we have, would be available to its community and open for years and years to come. It had been run by two previous ownership groups that were not able to survive the times.

I love coming here to work out.  There's hardly ever a lot of people using the workout equipment so it feels like you have the gym to yourself.  Everyone is nice and friendly, and the place is warm and inviting. More...

The classes and staff are fabulous! Learned to play tennis as a beginner in my late 40s and the tennis pros were great.

I've never been a member here, but my husband and I took tennis lessons here and had a great experience. We're both tennis novices, so we were looking for lessons that would help us hone our basic skills and this place filled the bill. First, I appreciated that they let us sign up for the beginner lessons without actually joining the club. This allowed us to try the place out and see if we were really into tennis before we paid a fortune to become a member of the club. Second, the teacher was great. He provided individualized feedback to each person in the class, which was appropriate for people's skill levels. Finally, the people who work the front desk are really nice. If we decide to keep playing tennis, we will definitely consider joining the club. More...

We are not members at the club but my son took tennis lessons here and had a great experience. The coach was always on time, encouraging and gave helpful guidance. Really professional. The waiting area was clean and quiet and parking was a breeze. I appreciate too how the owners are very community-oriented and have always donated gift certificates to any charity event I was soliciting for so I am happy to return the support. We are members at FFC because I need a pool, otherwise I'd join here. More...

One of the best options for pickleball in the Chicagoland area!!

I was a guest of a party of business associates where I learned pickleball, a racquet based game, similar to tennis. We played fours but two can play as well.  Solid paddles, made of wood or composite materials, are used to hit wiffle-like  ball over a net across a court sized one half of a typical tennis court.  The facilities was kinda old and has been in oak park for a lot of years.  It reminded me of the old tennis club I used to play in when I was in high school, lol. Loved the nostalgia.  I didnt see much of the amenties but our venue was nicely setup. Of course, we were all playing pickleball like we are playing tennis, slamming the ball at each (because you can, but I later learned thats not the strategy, lol). Pickleball was lots of fun and this facility was a nice place to learn. More...

I was visiting some family in Oak Park. I decided to check this place out because it was nearby. I'm so glad I did. The fitness center not that large but it's fairly complete with both free weights and machines that I like using. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Next time I hope to be able to check out their indoor tennis court. They left your great! More...

I've been a member for over 30 years and think it is a well run, friendly facility with multiple options for tennis and racquetball players as well as general fitness enthusiasts.  There is ample, varied equipment for aerobic and weight training, numerous personal trainers for hire (though I have not used them) and many, varied classes for spinners, aerobics lovers and yoga.  Tennis instructors include some excellent coaches. Locker facilities are clean and include good steamroom, sauna and whirlpool. There are cheaper options out there but this is a good one for folks who live nearby and are not on a tight budget. Yoga Centre is part of the club membership which is a huge bonus. It's a very welcoming place with excellent instructors. I have been a regular at some of the evening classes and look forward to unwinding at the end of the day . Fun classes like Nia are also offered. Yogis of all levels and styles can find a class that fit their needs. Love this place. More...

Gym, fitness classes, tennis classes, friendly staff. Never been to a gym before? They've got weekly classes that familiarize you with all the equipment. Oh and they have morning meditation sessions too. And pilates ( if that's your thing) and... Just join the gym already! More...

I became a member so that I could participate in the women's tennis classes.   I have been very happy here.   The staff is great and very personable.   There is a good assortment of treadmills/ellipticals and for me, plenty of weight equipment.   I can always find an available machine, though I don't go work out during peak hours.   Equipment seems reasonably clean, and women's locker room and showers are also decent. As another reviewer commented, I do think the court time is too expensive for people who are already paying for membership.  Some of the children's classes are very crowded, and don't seem like much of an improvement over the Park District classes. Just about the friendliest gym I've ever been to. Perhaps it's not new and shiny but why is that so important. The perk of being able to work out in a "meat market" free atmosphere is a huge perk. They have all the equipment and classes you need without the ridiculous fee system at other area gyms. After moving from the city this place was a very pleasant surprise - and the deal they have with the Yoga Center across the street is stellar! More...

I' ve been a member of this club for more than ten years because it is NOT a Bally's or FFC.  This club is not a meat market; it is a community tennis and fitness center. The classes are great, the members and staff are very friendly, I've even become friends with many of the members and staff.   Young, middle aged or elderly, there is room for everyone at the club.  I can see where teens or young adults might want a few classes geared more towards their preferences, maybe something for the club to consider, but overall a really wonderful community health center. The only reason I did not give the  club 5 stars is because it REALLY needs a pool. More...

This is a great neighborhood place. I live in a different city part of the time, and my partner lives in OP. Whenever I come back to town, whether for a weekend or a month, I go to the Tennis and Fitness center and am welcomed back like I've never left. The fitness classes are the best--they are intense and always changing, so you're never bored. Love the spinning and yoga classes, and the dance and pilates classes. The teachers are the best! I you are looking for a real cool gym with all the latest equipment and young ripped bods, well, keep on looking because this ain't it.  First and foremost this is a tennis club. That's perfect for middle aged folks like me, because while I do play tennis, I like to work out too. And since this is primarily a tennis place, it means the work out equipment is ALWAYS available. It's good equipment too. But it's not what you might find at a trendy state of the art place like FFC. But then again you won't pay the ridiculous prices you pay at those "state of the art" emporia. And thats fine with me. This is a friendly place. I used to ski, and this place reminds me of the old "mom and pop ski hill": friendly, good value for your buck - no glam, no glitz. It is true you got to pay for court time, but hey this is a tennis club and the owners got to make a buck too. Overall, this is a great place for folks like me. Great value I think. Younger people who thrive on energy (whatever that is) might find this place wanting. But for me, its perfect. More...

2 years later and I still go here and still use the $12/day pass and this place STILL ROCKS.  Love the sauna & whirlpool (which are included with your day pass).  I mainly just use the ellipticals in the upstairs hallway and then use some weight machines. LOTS of space, quietness, and privacy which I LOVE.  TVs always work fine, equipment always clean, working, and top notch, locker room is pretty and spacious and quiet.  Somebody is ALWAYS cleaning.  Towel service is ALWAYS free even for day passers. Front desk owners are ALWAYS pleasant as can be!  Whats not to love No kids running around like maniacs like the Oak Park Y has.  No crazy initiation fee or contract like FCC has.  Can't see anything to hate about this place but I wish it were cheaper to become a member b/c then I would join for the year.  Currently its $65/mo per person plus $100 joiner fee.  Too much for a person who goes only 1-2x a month like me!  You're still a great place, OP Tennis and Fitness!! I really like this place. The other reviewers are correct when they say it is a "mom and pop" place. I often see mom and pop (owners Steve and Laurie) around and they say hello with a smile. I love it because it's small, easily accessible, and the equipment is perfect for what I want. I think that this club used to be just a racquetball and tennis place. As racquetball started to fade in popularity, they took the courts and converted them into fitness rooms. They have a cardio room, a dance/yoga studio, a machine room and a nice free-weight room. All the rooms have a motif painted on the walls. It gives the place a nice feel and a little escape from your basic grey paint that is in so many other gyms. The equipment is nice and they have a great variety of different things to try out. They have a spin room and a Pilates room. They have every kind of prop you could ever use in or out of the classes. They really place their focus on providing LOTS of fitness options. There are people walking around, cleaning, everytime I'm there. My only gripe is that sometimes the parking lot is full in the morning and finding parking around the club can be a challenge.I still highly recommend it. It's a friendly place for regular people. More...
