Located in the heart of San Jose, tangerine is situated in downtown across from San Jose state. The salon itself is easily accessible and has a parking garage right across the street. (The stylist will validate your parking for you btw.) What's even more awesome is that Philz coffee is right across from the salon (my favorite). It was my first time at this salon with Adam Gonzales. I have been seeing him for hair cuts for the past 5 years at his old salon, but I finally made my trip to tangerine to see him at his new salon. Everyone knows life gets busy, and regular maintenance to pamper one's self can sometimes be disregarded and easily pushed to the side. It had been over 6 months since my last haircut with him and I just couldn't hold off any longer. I texted him my availability and he was able to accommodate me sooner than I had anticipated. Because this was a new salon for me, I came a few minutes before my appointment to assure I would make it on time. I was greeted by the front desk and she swiftly went to alert Adam that I was here. The one thing I really like about Adam is his vision. There are not many people who have an eye for things. Every appointment with him (unless you are not a regular male client) starts off with a consultation. Questions like what do you like about your hair? what is the end goal for you hair? What do you hate about your hair? What products or styling tools do you use? And most importantly, how do you usually wear your hair on a daily basis. As a stylist, he makes sure to cover all grounds to ensure he is being transparent and that things are being communicated correctly. Besides the awesome cutting skills he has, I am happy to say that the salon feels very welcoming. Co workers passed by and made compliments about my hair and how great it looks. This review is for a Michelle. I got a haircut only, no color. She did an amazing job on my hair and listened to what I wanted and gave good advice. She also takes her time (but not too slow!) and does a thorough job and checks in with you before the final result.The only reason it is not five stars is because I contacted through email for an appointment, they responded with available times and I responded what time I wanted but no one responded back so I wasn't sure if I should show up. I showed up at the time and they said I didn't have an appointment and to call next time to make sure it was finalized.Also pro tip! They validate 2 hours of parking if you park in a garage. Went yesterday for the first time. My sister had recommended this salon and she's typically a picky person especially with her hair, so it had to be legit; and it is! My stylist was Amalia, and she was awesome! She took the time to ask questions and make sure she knew the look/style I was going for. This is an excellent Hair Studio located in the heart of downtown.  Everyone here is very professional and down to earth. They give great haircuts for great prices and is definitely worth it . I have gotten haircuts by Marisa, Amalia, and Angelina and I have absolutely loved all of my cuts.They ask questions and really try to figure out what styles im looking for and what will suit me best. Words cannot express how much of an amazing job Adam did on my hair. I had to schedule three sessions to correct my hair color but it was well worth the time and Adam was an absolute pleasure to get to know so it didn't even feel like time dragged on (time flies when your having fun right? ) I came into the salon and boy...was. My. Hair. A. MESS!Adam was so knowledgeable and knew what I needed to do in order to transform and repair my hair. I've never gotten my hair done professionally and before I came to Adam, I did not have the best experiences with people coloring my hair. It was such an awesome experience to be able to gradually see my hair look and feel healthier, and to see it colored so well. Each session I had with Adam ended with me leaving the salon excited and ready for the next session! Adam is passionate about what he does, and it's very admirable and I wish I knew him sooner. I've been coming here for almost 6 years now, and it's safe for me to say that THIS is my home salon. Originally, my stylist for the longest time was Cynthia, but has now changed to Kat who does an equally good job on my hair. General atmosphere is pretty welcoming. The stylists are very accommodating, and will usually ask if you want anything (tea, water, coffee, etc). They'll sit you down and talk about what you're there for (hair coloring, cut, etc) and they'll give you their input.I've been rocking the white/platinum-blonde hair life for a good amount of time, and each and every stylist who I've worked with have been kind, friendly, and professional. I know that white hair is an undertaking, but in my experience, my hair ends up looking completely flawless AND not as damaged as white hair can usually get. I love going to Katrina to get my hair dyed. She is so kind and easy going, yet she knows what she is doing when it comes to dying hair whatever color! Last month I tried bright pink and I loved it! Showed up this morning without an appointment in desperate need of a fix after deciding to cut my own hair last night and although they didn't have any spots available, one of the hairdressers named Vicky had some time between clients so she volunteered to help me. She was very sweet and attentive and managed to not only fix my mistakes, but give me a brand new style which I'm in love with! The staff were all really friendly and the salon itself was neat and tidy (the big mirrors and hints of orange throughout were a nice touch). It's a bit pricey, especially if you're a broke college student, but I would definitely recommend this place over other salons in the area! More...

This is my standard hair salon. I go here for my routine hair trims. The place is clean and very affordable. I have wavy hair that is hard cut and not everyone can make it look good. I always ask for Amalia. She really listens to what you want and most importantly knows how to give you want you're looking for! I love this place and especially love my Stylist Rudy. He does an amazing job and really cares about his craft. He also shares his knowledge with his co-workers. I love how everyone consults with each other and collaborates to problem solve and lend a hand when in need. This place is also not TRYING To be anything but a salon which is great. The design is simple, streamlined, and looks like backstage for a fashion show. No one selling local crap art, or trying to be a bistro or etc etc. As a beauty professional myself, I expect high caliber of talent. The front desk service is always good and no one is fronting. I actually look forward to my appointments here and get really excited about watching my stylist's work on social media. He GAF y'all. Due to some bad foils in the past and major burning on scalp I thought I could not go blonde as my long time stylist before tried to say it was somehow me. NO ISSUES at all with foils or bleach so obviously I was being played and not served well. Also my previous stylist got bored with  my length and preferred shorter cuts and was really lazy in the end and even mocked my deciding to finally grow my hair out. First thing Rudy said to me was MERMAID HAIR. I was excited about that but I am also fine with a good cut when the ends and shape get funky. I trust him completely. It's whole new world! So happy. I'll mention from the very beginning that this place by itself is totally great and the customer service there is excellent. Staff was attentive and helped me to choose shampoo and conditioner according to my preferences. The only issue was a haircut. Unfortunately, this was actually the main thing me and my husband came for. :)So basically none of us was satisfied with the result, but after spending there two hours we just had to go back home. Probably that was partially our fault, because we didn't choose at least the junior or senior hairdresser, but for some reason I thought even the rising star will handle basic trimming and layering. As a result, my hair didn't change at all, even damaged hair stayed on it's place, and my husband got a "triangle" haircut which I asked not to do:( And for whatever reason it took 1,5 hours to cut only his hair. Probably will be back but we will definitely ask for a senior master. Tara gave me a great haircut. I brought in pictures from magazines to give her an idea of what I was looking for. I wear my hair both curly and straight, explaining to her how I cared for and styled my hair. Tara listened closely, got a feel for my hair, then off we went for the shampoo and conditioning. Clearly, Tara knows what she's doing and is masterful with her scissors. She told me she's been cutting hair for 16 years, and her experience shows. My hair looked super after she finished blow drying it, and great again the next day after I washed and styled it myself.  When I let my hair air dry and get curly, it still looked fabulous.   It's all about the cut, and Tara is one of the best.  I'll be back! First time here & it was amazing. I called in for a same day haircut with a senior stylist cause i didn't want to risk getting a bad haircut. I got scheduled with Melissa Flores and she was amazing. Let her know that I wanted to cover my big forehead and something to help shape my face since my head's a big square as well. this was my first time with Tangerine. loved it! i had a haircut with Angelina. she was amazing. i was confused with what haircut i wanted, her recommendation made things so much easier for me. i told her i dont want it too short but my hair are seriously damaged, she manged to keep it long and still took out most of my damaged hair. length was my main concern which she did great at keeping it long with an awesome long layers cut.Will definitely be back here for Angelina!! I have been coming here for years. Through the years I have gotten haircuts from various stylists. I have never left unsatisfied. The management and stylists are all very friendly and professional. In times when I have had to make a last minute appointment I have found I don't have to stress about who is available because really they are all very talented. Their stylists vary in skill level and that does dictate their fee charged. For a combover style mens styling haircut I am usually prepared to pay between 24 - 45 depending on the stylist. The environment is very welcoming. They offer complimentary coffee and tea or you can always grab a philz coffee located directly across from the salon. This was interesting to say the least..I walked in with Mikayla (sorry if i spelt it wrong) and she told me she was sick and not feeling good. My mind "OH GREAT!"She washed my hair, cut and styled and said probably 3 things to me the entire process. I get It when you're sick and feeling crappy talking is the last thing you want to do, but business 101 don't come to work if your moody is bad, others can always feel It. I would rather have had her rescheduled me on a day she was feeling better and my experience would have been so much better. I didn't deduct ratings because I don't feel like the entire salon should be judged based off one person and the haircut she gave me was good. This was my second time coming to Tangerine. I was extremely satisfied the first time as well.I usually call about a week before when I actually want to get my hair cut because I know it gets quite busy here. If you haven't been here before, they will ask you what service you want. The options you have are Rising Star ($22), Junior Stylist ($35), Senior Stylist ($35), or Master Stylist ($88). Keep in mind these are all prices for men. I chose to go with the Rising Star and was extremely happy with the cut that I got.When you walk in, you are greeted by the person at the front desk and all you have to do it let them know that you have an appointment and they'll get your stylist. The very first time I came here, they set me up with Katrina and I asked for her for my second time as well. Before the haircut started, she asked questions as to how I wanted my hair cut, and talked me through what to do with some problem areas with my hair. She then washed my hair before the haircut and took her time with the cut itself. After the haircut was done, I had my hair washed again and she styled it for me as well. If you're looking for a great stylist who will make sure you get the exact cut you want, definitely ask for Katrina. So far, both haircuts have been consistently great, and I highly recommend checking this place out! They also validate parking for the garage on 3rd street right across the street. More...
