Dog Training

Kathy is amazing! She absolutely transformed my dog. She sent multiple daily videos and the transformation was mind blowing! She also had to transform my knowledge so I could continue to enjoy a trained dog. I highly recommend Kathy!!! More...

Q&As

I really enjoy helping people so they can have better relationships with their dogs. So many people are putting up with unwanted behaviors that are easily fixed and I love helping so owners and dogs can do more together. It's no fun at all being pulled around by a dog that's out of control, or having to put up with a dog or puppy that's tearing up your belongings, going potty in the house, barking excessively, and just running the house instead of listening and understanding what you want. My personal dogs go camping with us, and they don't bark, don't get out of a pen that they could easily knock down or jump. Training is what makes them stay. No dog is too old to learn manners and you don't have to put up with behavior you don't like. It never gets old to see a happy owner with a well behaved dog.

So many people spend time with their dogs at home and are really putting up with a lot of bad behavior that can be fixed, easily in most cases. A lot of people are really good at a lot of things, but need help with their dogs. I can provide that help and I find it fun, too!
I have natural talent that I constantly hone because you never know it all.
I have been training my own dogs since I was a child.
I competed in Sheepdog Trials with my Border Collies.
I have been helping friends and family with their own pets for years.
I have helped so many people with their dogs now and enjoy hearing the stories of how they can take their dogs places now and how people comment on how well behaved they are. I love hearing it!
Having a foster dog and also the Dogs on Deployment Dogs showed me how much of a need my services are. All of those dogs left my home with much better manners than they came in with.

I'm not only a great dog trainer, I'm also a great people person. I listen to you and pay attention to what your goals are. I've had clients that are going to take their dogs everywhere, so I take them on even more field trips so they get used to a lot of different places. I have fostered a dog that was very unruly and interviewed 2 potential adopters. The first one was not a good fit as they had small children and although this dog was friendly, he was just going to always be a lot of dog and therefore not a good fit around small children. The second one was a spectacular fit for this dog and although the rescue group was worried that this dog would hurt or kill her chickens, I was not. I knew she would follow through and continue training him. Happy to say my recommendations lead to her adopting this dog and she's doing wonderfully with him and he has a forever home. He leaves her cat and her chickens alone due to the training he received and that she expanded upon. I've also participated in the Dogs on Deployment Program and have boarded dogs for our military members on two occasions. I have worked with a rescue group to help train them how to train their dogs to make them more adoptable.
Training doesn't have to be a chore, you can integrate small things daily to train your dog. Try using your dog's daily food for obedience training. Make him/her sit before going through any doorway. Have him sit and wait for a release command before you give him his daily food. Simple things that really matter and add up so that your dog sees you as a leader which helps your entire relationship.
I teach you to train your dog while you're doing your regular chores. It's easy to make it a lifestyle if you're taught how.
A lot of dogs end up at the shelters or at rescue because of their terrible manners, but it's never too late to start training.

Yes. I can do 30 minute phone consultations to help guide you in the right direction with crate training, stopping unwanted behaviors, obedience commands, and many other things.

Services

3 Week Advanced Board & Train $1500.00
.
This program is for dogs with more behavior issues than my 2 week program (no aggressive dogs) such as fear & anxiety that need more than my 2 week program offers.
.
Commands – Basic Obedience: Sit, Down, Place (lay down on a dog bed or cot and remain there quietly until released) Recall (coming when called), Loose leash walking and Off leash follows
.
Skills - Crate training, potty schedule, waiting for food, impulse control, auto-sit, threshold training, teaching the art of being calm and relaxing.
.
Stop – Barking, counter-surfing, minor nipping, whining, jumping up, leash chewing.
.
Your dog or puppy lives in my house and receives daily training. I send you at least 2 updates a week via text or email so you can see your dog's progress and learn what he/she is learning while with me. I focus on teaching your dog to relax and be calm which is very difficult for most dogs to learn but is the key to good behavior. Your dog gets to go on field trips so he/she understands that the good behavior learned is required everywhere.
.
Imagine a stress free and enjoyable walk with your dog!
.
You have homework that will be emailed to you once your dog is here so that you can learn some of the commands. It is light reading along with videos to help you become more familiar with the training. Near the end of the 3 weeks, we have 2 Go Home Sessions where I teach you everything you need to know to keep up with your dog's new behavior and training. As with any training program there is maintenance involved after your dog leaves, but I teach you how to incorporate it into daily routines so you're training while doing chores, etc.
.
My goal is for you to be happy and confident when you leave here with your dog! I'm also really patient and great at explaining things so questions are encouraged.
.
I have found that prong collars and e-collars are wonderful tools to use to help me communicate with dogs. Prong collars provide equal pressure around a dog's neck which makes them slightly uncomfortable to pull against, but do not hurt your dog. E-Collars are not like the shock collars of long ago. Think of them as a blue tooth leash to help you communicate with your dog. These are tools you don't need to phase out, they work so I definitely recommend that you stick with them once you get your dog home.
.
There is a contract to fill out, deposit to hold your spot, proof of your dog's up to date vaccinations, up to date rabies certificate and dogs must be on a flea/tick and heartworm preventative. You supply all of your dog's food while here. E-Collar and Prong Collar are not included in this package. I will have some for sale or tell you the exact models I use and recommend so you can get them.
