Superhero Dog Academy

I found Libby and the Superhero team through a google search after adopting our puppy. I needed someone on short notice to do a board and train as we were leaving town the following week, and wanted to make sure we had plenty of support and training after we got home. I had never done a board and train and was nervous initially, but after meeting Libby and team I immediately knew it was the right decision. I don't think I can adequately express how glad I am now that we lucked into finding Superhero and made the choice to work with them. Libby is responsive, communicative, kind, patient, wise, straightforward, calm, knowledgeable and accommodating. When we got back from our trip we were greeted by a very happy, well adjusted pup who was crate trained and less reactive. Libby has since encouraged my kids to be involved with training and incorporated them into some of our sessions. She has been available by text for all of my thoughts, questions and anxieties, and the training sessions have been very containing and helpful. I have total trust and confidence in Libby and her staff, and our puppy feels completely at home with them and is always so happy to see them. I really value the positive reinforcement approach and feel like it's the best fit for our pup's needs as well. Libby is awesome. My dogs get so happy when they see her. Oscars reactivity has improved immensely under her guidance and she has given me some wonderful training tips to use with my dogs. 100% recommend!

Libby is OUR superhero! We added a puppy named Duke to our family at the end of 2020 that we affectionately refer to as our COVID puppy. Unlike our two older fur babies, this little guy couldn’t meet new people, make friends at the dog park, or hang out at doggy daycare. He’s adorable, sweet, and, as we learned, completely unsocialized and unprepared to return to any kind of pre-COVID everyday life. The first time he met someone new was actually a little scary as he jumped, growled, and snapped at friends. He’s not a mean dog but he’s scared of everything, especially new people, which makes him seem aggressive. My husband and I tried to help him, read tons of articles about training and socializing, tried 100 different things, and just felt so helpless to help him.

We decided to find some help and enter Libby, our superhero. I spoke with many local trainers who wanted to put a training (aka shock) collar on him, needed him to be away from us for several weeks, or used a dominance training practice to create a submissive dog. I’m not saying they were wrong, but those weren’t methods that felt good to us. When we found Libby, it was such a relief. It’s all about training the humans to communicate with the dog, rewarding good behavior instead of punishing bad. She is patient and kind, and we saw a difference Duke almost right away. After the first lesson, we had so much hope. After the third, she was part of the family, Auntie Libby.

From teaching him to be quiet, or settle, or walk nicely on a leash, he’s a much happier pup and we are much happier puppy parents. He’s even learned that new people aren’t bad and has made some new (human) friends and others can see the sweet loving puppy we see. Auntie Libby has even been able to help us teach our old dogs some new tricks. Three months later I can’t speak highly enough about the difference Libby has made. Whether she is working with us in person or responding to a random question via text, she has been a lifesaver. We still have a few lessons left with her and I know we’ll miss her when they are done. Libby is awesome! Through her initial visit and custom IEP program she provided us with immediate homework that worked very well. Her follow on visits built on this foundation and our 110# German Shepard reduce puppy is turning out to be a great dog!!
