I worked with Josh to assist with improving my ability to take photos of birds & learn more about taking pictures of birds in flight. He’s a great teacher and was patient, very knowledgeable & provided hands on training and encouragement. In our first session (2 hours) he provided valuable feedback that made notable improvement on my images and technique! I’ll definitely be reaching out again! VERY reasonable cost for 1x1 hands on coaching! More...

I hired Josh for an engagement/proposal shoot. He was very professional and went above and beyond to make sure the proposal was a surprise and to capture us in an authentic moment. The post engagement photos turned out great and above all he was very easy to work with. Solid communication and flexibility. Thanks so much! 5 Stars More...

Q&As

The secret to taking a great photograph is there is no secret. Every photographer has their own style and every photographer has their own idea as to what the key to a great photograph is. The truth is there isn't just one key, it takes a multitude of components to create a great image. With that said I will say this. If you want to vastly improve you images whether shot with a pro DSLR or a smart phone then simply change your perspective.

If you're shooting children or pets then get down to their level. If you're taking a selfie, taking it from a low angle, or at a 45 degree angle. The point is, a different point of view can add drama to an image and have a much larger impact on those viewing it.

My job is to create your vision. Everyone has at least an idea of what they are looking for when it comes to their photos and its my job to give it to them. By finding out more about someone such as their personality, their likes and dislikes, their comfort level, etc. we can tailor their idea to suite who they are.

Before each session I like to find out the type of location, is it an office, a park, the woods, etc. The setting contributes to the feel of the images. Next I will want to find out the feel of the session, is it playful, romantic, melancholy, etc. With just these two questions we are starting to create an image that invokes emotion in the viewer.

The greatest part of my job is the response I get from people when they see themselves or their loved ones in the images I capture.

When I first became interested in photography I started out with wildlife photography. I loved everything about it, being outdoors, tracking the animals, and capturing those once in a life time images that mesmerize people. It wasn't until I was hired to photograph a birthday party that I realized the enjoyment of portrait photography. I saw the joy it brought people seeing their loved ones in beautiful images and saw how happy it made them to have those memories captured. Its a wonderful feeling to put a smile on someones face through my images.

As I mentioned, every photographer has their own style and every photographer has their own business practices. My goal is to provide the client exactly what they vision down to the smallest detail. My sessions are individually tailored to each person or family and never rushed or pressured. A client who is relaxed and comfortable make the most beautiful photographs.
