STUDIO+ONE:DESIGN

I'll be candid - I was afraid to work with a high-end design professional. I figured that I would get a great result but that it would be impossible to keep the budget reasonable. I was fixing up my house for sale, so I really did have to keep budget in mind throughout the project.

My fears melted away when I started working with Susan, she was amazing! She has a fantastic design sense and the results were just beautiful. But just as important to me she was very respectful of my budget. She was also very willing to incorporate my ideas, but wasn't shy about telling me where my ideas wouldn't work. She is just fun to talk with, and to kick ideas with.

First let me say it was fun to work with Susan. She has enormous energy and great ideas. We had a small living room that my husband hated to walk into. ....now it is one of his favorite rooms in the house. She used some of the furniture that we already owned but moved it around to make it conversation and relationship friendly. She found one of kind pieces from Artisan furniture makers including some from our favorite place, Maine. She added amazing color to the room convinced me that drapes were not
"old fashioned" and made a small living room zing. She showed me where it is important to spend extra and where with good design you don't have to spend too much. We were thrilled.

Susan is exuberant, thoughtful, clever, and respectful of clients' wishes, budget, and the architecture involved, The client may be presented with one solution or a few options - either way, each is viable and good; no throwaway idea just to get you to like "her" choice. Describing and/or demonstrating why each choice is offered (how it meets needs, room, space, budget) is a strength as well. Susan worked with me on a bathroom and kitchen done from stud as well as a living room. The transitional living room was completely transformed by the creation of built-in bookcases and window seating I could never have envisioned myself! As for the kitchen, Susan found a unique quartzite countertop that drove the rest of the design and color palate, contemporary with transitional accents. The result was so much more interesting than most kitchen renovations I've seen. For the bathroom we went earthy contemporary, and she found me unique, high-end tiles and fixtures while keeping the price very reasonable. She also helped me add exterior architectural details to what was from the exterior a bland 1940 cottage. Again, what a transformation. Her vision is really exceptional. Lastly Susan has a finely tuned sense of color (she is a color consultant as well). Her choices are sophisticated and have received many compliments. She worked closely with me on every detail (I didn't make it easy for her, as I kept changing my mind about things), listened and was flexible. Being in the service business myself (I'm a Realtor), I don't like to have dictated to me by someone I'm paying what they "will" or "won't" do. I don't put up with Prima Donna designers. She was always willing to work with my wants and wishes but also pushed me in certain areas to go beyond my normal comfort zone. The result was a wonderful visually stunning design that almost everyone comments on upon entering my new abode. She helped me from the floors to the ceilings: flooring, wall colors, lighting, furniture, 16 foot handmade draperies, a built in kitchen island. Susan was wonderful when we bought our house.  She helped us pick colors for the inside and the outside.  We could not have done it without her!  We get compliments about the colors whenever we have visitors.  The colors have added so much personality to our house, too!  We will be sure to contact Susan again if/when we want to redo the house!
