Although we have not build our dream house yet, the dream hasn’t faded.
I have to say, even though it's been quite awhile since we worked with Spry, I think about Eric and my house that he designed often.
To say he was the most talented architect, doesn't come close to describing him.
He is kind and he never forgot that it would be our house. I know that probably sounds funny, but most of the architects I interviewed were not really listening to us. When I talked with Eric though, the conversation was completely different. I felt an instant connection with him and I knew immediately he was the right person to take our ideas and make them a reality.
We love, love the design and think the world of Eric.
One day, I will build my house and give you all the virtual tour:)

Mod Haus
Every once in a while we get to work with some really talented people and Eric is one of these people. Mod Haus has been designing and building modern homes in the Phoenix area and has rarely taken on the projects of others. We were first introduced to Eric through a client who had Eric do his CD's and had requested we build the home. After some deliberation we decided to proceed and have found Eric to be extremely talented is his designs and in his detail. So many architects don't work through some of the complex problems that modern designs can bring about but Eric goes above and beyond. When my wife and I relocated to Phoenix we found an older house on a lot that really appealed to us. Our intention was to remodel and upgrade the 1962 era house then on the lot.
After looking for ideas on Houzz.com we came across examples of the work of Spry Architecture. Those examples showed creativity and displayed the kind of modern look we were interested in. We contacted Eric Spry and met with him to discuss our project. After that first meeting we decided to hire Eric to design our remodel. That remodel eventually turned into a new build. So we had the benefit of both remodel plans and a brand new build design from Spry Architecture.
Eric's approach to designing a home or a remodel is based on his understanding of his clients. We spent a couple meetings discussing what we were looking for, what careers we were in, our interests and how we enjoyed spending our time. Eric made it clear that he works to design a home with the client's personalities in mind. What we liked about Eric was his commitment to designing a home that fit our needs, interests and preferences, not necessarily his preferences as an architect. And while Eric had strong feelings about various features and design elements, he always stressed that it had to be right for us.
Another reason we rated Spry Architecture so highly was Eric's continuing involvement in the process from planning through construction. He didn't just hand us a set of plans, but he continued to meet as needed, and conference with the contractors and subs to arrive at solutions for any problem that came up during building. We felt our project was important to Eric, as much as it was to us. And whether it was an issue with a design element or with the city planning department, Eric was always available to offer help and assistance.
Finally, we appreciated the honesty and ethical approach to the work of designing and building a new home. Eric connected us to a contractor as honest as he was. We felt by the end of the build that we knew exactly how much our house cost to design and build. We got some of the best sub contractors in the business, and while this project was by no means trouble free, we always felt we had people on our side who could find a solution. And they always did.
All in all, we couldn't have been happier with the work Eric Spry did on our behalf. His design was outstanding, we love the creativity and modern feel to our new home, and we feel we've made a contribution to the city and our neighborhood.

Eric was the mastermind behind our contemporary dream home in North Scottsdale. We had interviewed numerous well known architects in the area with incredibly impressive resumes.
Eric was the last of the interviews and we knew immediately that he was the person we wanted to work with.
Eric spent a good amount of time with us talking about what we wanted and did not want in our home. He clearly listened very well because his very first concept drawing was just about as close as one could come to the final design. Over the next few months of tweaking the design, we spent a good amount of time meeting in person and talking over the phone regarding the more intricate details of the home. With so much of Eric's time spent listening and really putting his talents to the test, the final design couldn't have been more "us".
Following the painless design stage, came a very long and brutal building phase for us. Between HOA design review committee issues, City of Scottsdale red tape and beyond frustrating experiences with our builder, Eric was always there for us. He truly went above and beyond his realm of responsibilities by going to bat for us on all fronts that were presenting significant challenges to us. There were a few times we really felt that this project was going to never finish, yet Eric was always right there being as supportive and informative as he could.
We have now been in the house for over a year and can say without a doubt that the house Eric designed with us has far exceeded our expectations. As I type this from our lofted office with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and desert landscape, I am reminded of just how incredible of a job Eric did mastering what we wanted and capturing the very best of what this piece of land could offer.
With that said, my wife and I can not give a higher recommendation for Mr. Spry. He has the personality, sense of humor, professionalism and raw talent that make him a truly an outstanding architect.

We our building a new home with the help of Spry Architecture. My wife and I have found it has been a pleasure working with Eric. He has good communication skills and helped us get our ideas onto paper in spite of our repeated tweeks. It is a difficult building lot and we had specific needs he had to address. It may not be as architecturally clean as Eric would have liked, but we made it suit our needs. We are at the City of Phoenix design review process now and are looking forward to a continuing great relationship. I am a Michigan resident and hired Spry Architecture to design an addition to my existing home. After a short consultation Eric got right to work on our plans. Within a short time he had preliminary sketches that met our expectation and completed the final plans. The addition was perfect for our expanding family and met all the needs we asked Eric to consider, even the budget. After interviewing 4 individual Architects, I was most impressed with Eric Spry of Spry Architecture. Once my husband got over his incredible "ROCK STAR" good looks and his charismatic personality we were able to move forward and focus on our new house plans.
As I described to him some of the features that I visualized seeing in our home he actually listened and took notes. He would add in his creative ideas to make my vision come to life !!! Not only is Eric imaginative , full of great ideas and a problem solver, he was also very easy to work with.
I would definitely use his company again and will refer his Architectural services to others.

After interviewing two Architects in 2010 for a Scottsdale remodel. Out of the two, one was pretentious, flashy, snooty, and had a totally different vision than I.
Then walked in Eric Spry. Opposite of the other architects attributes. He walked into the home, was quiet, absorbing the home and it's bones. Taking it all in. When he spoke, he had the same vision as mine. We both saw the same things in the home. He really heard all my thoughts. We were on the same page. Eric Spry was hired.
Eric brought my vision for the home to life and beyond. During the process, he was an excellent communicator. He is calm. He is humble. Highest integrity. Extremely talented.
The whole remodel process was so much fun that I couldn't wait to start the next one with Eric. So, this time, I commissioned Eric to design and build a home on two acres of pristine desert in Scottsdale, AZ for me to live in.
He has just finished the design of my new home. Again, it's BEYOND what I could have imagined. To say I feel lucky to have found Eric, is an understatement.

It has been a pleasure to know, and to now work with him professionally! Eric immerses himself in each project and "can't not" make each one his very best. It's just what he does!
Anyone who gets to know him and work with him will be thrilled with their result, and they will also gain something else...a delightfully genuine, heartfelt friendship with one who loves what he does and loves to serve others with his talents, insights, and playful enthusiasm.
Additionally, Eric has had a unique career path. Before going on his own, he was instrumental in working with Gordon Rogers, as collaborator, CAD draftsman and field representative. This means Eric not only knows how to make something wonderfully beautiful and functional, but he also knows how to assemble and build his visions in a marvelous and practical way in the real world, that elicits the enthusiastic cooperation of the trades that he calls upon. They know they are participating in a higher form of work, when they are on one of Eric's projects and it raises the bar for everyone involved.
I can't wait to see more of his future projects!
