Spork Pit is one of those places that lures you in with their aroma first, then they follow that up with the lively atmosphere.  It is rare that I have a Saturday to myself, one that allows me to indulge in things.  I was going to make this a Saturday that I could remember.I had been keeping my eye on Spork Pit for a bit but never found myself with either enough time to stop in or be in the area when hunger struck.  It was just my luck that both seemed to work in my favor on that day.  I parked a good distance away but did not mind the walk to here.  See, the walk is kind of the best part.  Like I said before SP first grabs your attention with the appetizing aroma coming from it.  Follow your nose if you will.  On a nice Saturday you can also follow the noise to this place.  This particular Saturday of my visit there was a band preforming on the patio.  Live music and killer food is always a good combination. Finally inside I look over the menu and wait to place my order.  This process is really fast and convenient.  You get the option of waiting for your food to be prepared for you, or they will bring it to you if you choose to sit on the patio.  I decided to wait inside for my food, and ultimately opted to sit inside as it was a steamy day and the threat of rain was just around the corner.Love how they serve it up in here.  Food on a metal tray in a disposable container.  Easy clean up at the end, just be careful not to throw your silverware away as I did (sorry).  I went with the Chili Cheese Mac.  It is the most comfortable of comfort food, and in my opinion, the best way to taste a bit of everything on one plate.  The Mac n Cheese portion of this was stick to your bones good, I could have just had a serving of that and would have been happy.  Then they top it with their house made chili.  This is the type of chili you see being made on a competition cooking show.  It is meaty, it is spicy, and most importantly it is satisfying.  Then they top that with some cheese sauce which pulls it all together.  Some people would say that Chili Cheese Mac would not be a sufficient meal.  Those people would be wrong.  It is a huge serving and I could not finish it all myself.  They also serve this with some of the best bread.  Nice, flavorful crust and a soft, spongy inside.  Great for soaking up whatever you my have leftover sauce wise.Such a great atmosphere.  Inside is like a shared table.  Outside is a multilevel, dog friendly patio.  Beers on tap.  You need to stop by. We stopped in on a Tuesday night, looking for a venue that was dog friendly. We sat on the patio and looked over the options before ordering. One of the staff members come out to say hello to our dog and give him some treats. Mr. Dog is loving it.Hubs is between the Admiral and jerk chicken, but ultimately decides on the sandwich. I go in to order for us. I definitely wanted greens, but wasn't sure on the smoked meat option. The brisket was highly recommended as well as the jerk chicken (though they were out for the day!). They also had a limited time turkey leg that was described as a two pound leg that was a good option. I ended up choosing the brisket as I'm not a huge turkey fan. We round off the order with a couple of beers, all draft options, which is nice. We go back outside and sip on our beers. The food arrives within a reasonable amount of time. - The Admiral is sizable! The coleslaw has a pink tent to it, my guess it is from the vinegar base. The pulled pork that it comes with is very tasty, good flavor in itself without any sauce. - The brisket is tender and tasty. Good flavor. There is a small sliver of fat at the ends, but nothing unreasonable. Three strips of solid brisket.-  The greens are cooked in the pork and it's amazing. The flavor soaks up well. I definitely recommend it, if you like greens. It's a large side and something that can be easily shared. - The bread that came with the food was more like ficotta, which wasn't what I was expecting with BBQ where cornbread is more common. The herbs on top just didn't go well with the BBQ. The bread was quite dense and wasn't the most complementary with the meal.  I also ended up dipping it in the broth at the bottom of the greens cup to make it less dense. Don't let the prices confuse you. Gratuity is already included. We'll be back! More...

Pretty decent barbecue although I do think prices are a bit high here. One thing to note, you seem to get a lot more food than what you order :) maybe it's because we went at the end of the day? Anyways, we ordered 1/4 lb of the jerk chicken (good, but only very light in flavor), pulled pork (excellent flavor, slightly overshredded) and the brisket (good, slightly fatty). Instead of 3/4 lb total I honestly felt like we got two whole pounds of food, which is awesome. The collard greens where excellent.  Beer selection is ok. Mostly summer style easy drinkers. More...

I got the Mac and cheese but with pulled pork instead of burnt ends, and my boyfriend got the half rack of ribs. Both were amazing. I really enjoyed our time there and we will definitely go back. The brisket alone is worth bumping this place up a star, otherwise I'd probably give it three. It's the best thing on their menu that I tried and on par or better than any other I've had in the city, and that deserves adding a star. I came with a group of four a few days ago. We had the brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage. We ordered two sides of Mac and cheese. They had already run out of multiple other sides and when we tried to go back for another serving of brisket, they only had a half pound left for us to share. I get that a lot of these BBQ places are known for making everything on the menu fresh everyday, so sometimes they're going to run out of inventory, but we were still within a standard dinner time window, so that was a little discouraging. There's a few local beers on tap and they have bottled and canned sodas.I haven't made it to Spork itself yet, but from what I've heard I'm sure it's good. This place just kinda feels like a side-project or afterthought to me, which I guess is just the point. It's basically a small cafeteria line with two long tables inside and a small patio outside, and it's only open in the warmer months. I have nothing bad to say about the service, but you really just order at the counter and pick up your food when it's ready. Maybe they'll expand someday. You can talk me into coming here if I'm in the area or just based on the brisket, but overall I'd say there's other local options I'd give a slight edge towards. More...

The customer service is very friendly here. I decided to stop here with a friend for lunch. It was very chilly outside but once we got inside, we were greeted with great enthusiasm and warmth. The meats are very juicy and full of flavor. The Mac and cheese was significantly better then the last time i tried (when they just opened) the owner told me that they switched up the Mac and cheese recipe and they now use Gouda. The bread was also very delicious and I was surprised to hear that they make the bread themselves! The service is significantly better than last year. They changed the ordering process so the menus are no long paper and wasteful. You order first to the right and then move down the line to get your food. This eliminates any confusion that once existed before. Another wonderful thing about this BBQ joint is their meat butter. Ok, you may ask, what is that ! Don't worry- it's not some weird term some guy is using to seduce you, it's actually the butter that tops the popcorn they offer at the restaurant. They use the meat drippings from all their meats, and mix it with butter that you can top yourself! The butter is housed in a traditional movie theater butter dispenser so you can butter up your popcorn to your heart's content! More...

THIS PLACE RULES. The food is amazing. The only thing that is a drawback is the seating arrangement. Its kind of tight and small.  However, I see for the summer months there is alot of outdoor seating. This is also a newer establishment which they are ' trying out' from the original Spork location across the street. Perhaps they will expand. Other than that, its awesome. The brisket.. the greens..the mac n cheese.... everything. GO THERE. More...

The food was good and was priced reasonably. We got an quarter pound of brisket, pulled pork and ribs each. The food came out almost as soon as we ordered it. The brisket was my favorite. It was tender and moist. We also got collard greens and mac and cheese to share. It was plenty of food for three girls. It was cafeteria style seating, but they checked on us periodically to make sure we were ok. The staff was very friendly. I enjoyed sitting on their porch in the late afternoon/early evening. Maybe Yelp will get it together because there are two Spork Pit listed at the same location and a friend said that they sent them a email about this a couple of weeks ago, time to combine, it may happen in the next century. Anyway, Spork Pit was a good stop for lunch.  Not crowded and got to enjoy the outdoor seating, but bring a cushion if you plan on stay a long time the seats at the tables are the grate type and just not comfortable.  To order you go to the end of the counter and fill out a check list and give it to the person preparing the meal.  I had the Brisket sandwich with two sides, a Mac & Cheese and a Coleslaw.  My Brisket sandwich had some pickled onions and pickle and a sauce.  Really enjoyed the sandwich and the brisket was tender.  The Mac & Cheese was OK but a little underwhelming, wish it had a little more flavor.  The Coleslaw was meh, just not that good but everyone has different ideas on what Coleslaw should taste like.  They have three sauces at the table but only one was labeled.  All very different.  One was a vinegar based and tasty, one I think was called Texas and very good and never really tried the last sauce.  The service was kind of funny.  The guy at the cash register gave me my root beer and then answered the phone and then did not ring me up.  Finally he got back to me and could not get it together.  Anyway the Brisket was good. I had a seriously fantastic meal at Spork Pit last night.  Brisket was the best I've ever had, and I've been to some good places in Austin.  Sausage and ribs were on point.  I don't know what they did with the banana pudding, but it much different than the banana pudding I had in their old location last summer, and it is now bonafide banana crack.  All local beers on tap.  Reviewer talking about how the meat is served on a tray is an idiot, as this is often how it's done at a Texas-style joint. Perfect laid-back atmosphere + gigantic outdoor deck, melt-in-your-mouth meats (everything was great but the pulled pork and brisket were some of the best I've ever had), and delicious beer & drinks on draft (including two frozen options). There were 3 sauces on the table to choose from, which I really love so you can mix and match / add as much as you'd like.
