My therapy experience was a first time experience. I was nervous and uncertain as most people who are entering into their first therapy session would rightfully feel. With that said, I made a decision to enter therapy with an open mind and to trust Lisa and her knowledge/years of experience as a trauma therapist. I also believe you get what you are willing to put into it in terms of work. That was my attitude I chose and the intent I set entering into therapy. What I received was better than I could have expected. I felt at complete ease with Lisa with her calming presence. She caters to your needs (mine included past trauma and short term goals) while collaboratively working with you through each session. She provided guidance and counsel to help bring awareness of my various childhood traumas that were deeply rooted and hidden that I was completely unaware of yet were affecting my present life. I’m now at peace with all the past traumas and I’m moving forward confidently in a positive direction. I’ve transformed into a better version of myself because of the therapy experience. My trauma began when I was fourteen years old and I witnessed my sister's mania as well as my mother's heavy drinking. In turn, I began to seek out other ways to "handle" such a situation. Over the years, I have turned to OCD behaviors, performing very spontaneous yet random acts and began coping with an eating disorder by the age of 17. I cannot blame my immediate family members nor any other abuser that came into my life and created some sort of trauma; however, I have learned how to positively treat my physical body, spirit and mind through Spiritual Growth Therapy Holistic Outpatient Center. I strongly recommend this program to anyone who is struggling with any sort of underlying disorders such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, eating disorders, substance abuse, sexual addiction, gambling addiction, Obsessive Compulsive Behaviors, etc. Both Paul Alleva, MSW and his wife Lisa Alleva, LMFT, PhD are quite unique in their approaches in first assessing each client and then coming up with a plan of action to best treat the PERSON and not just the symptoms. Addiction to substances of any kind do not just come over night. There are underlying issues and reasons as to why a person may pick up a drink or a drug and may not be able to put either to rest. From my experience, the drinking and prescription anxiety medication worked until IT STOPPED WORKING. Unfortunately even though you are taking a narcotic medication as prescribed your body begins to need higher dosages over an extended period of time. The bottom line is that without the support from Spiritual Growth Therapy, I would not be where I am today. I was able to get rid of the substances, transitioned into a sober living facility and began intensive outpatient therapy. Both Paul and his wife Lisa took the time to meet with me one on one to address the trauma that I had experienced in my adulthood which I thought I would never be able to get over. I also became more aware of my emotions and where they were stemming from and gained the coping skills necessary to become a productive member of society. I was having horrific night terrors and at times I was having difficulty leaving the house. The techniques that were extremely beneficial for me personally were the sessions of both hypnotherapy as well as EMDr. If you are not familiar with either of these techniques, I strongly recommend that you research them. I was hesitant at first as well but now I am healthy and I am off all medication as well as alcohol that truly took control over my life. Also, I was able to come to terms with the underlying issues that I had been struggling with my entire life and have managed to compartmentalize one way or another. I suppose I just wasn't ready to truly "deal" or want to "see" the truth. It was a defense mechanism for me to shun away the route of the problem and act out on other behaviors in which intensive one on one therapy, group therapy, exercise, hypnotherapy as well as EMDr strongly assisted. If you live in the Palm Beach area and are searching for a reputable outpatient facility, I would strongly recommend Spiritual Growth Therapy. I have been in and out of treatment centers for several years and I have finally come to terms with my trauma as well as how to cope with the emotions when they do come up so that I do not have to resort to any negative behaviors. Thank you Paul and Lisa Alleva for all that you do and continue to do and I will continue to advocate on your behalf because I firmly believe that you HEAL the individual and NOT the symptoms. Paul's hypnotherapy protocol for addiction has helped to change my life. Not only is he easy to talk to, he's helped with my anxiety and trauma and to put my life into a new perspective. I have to admit i was a bit skeptical about this process and never believed i could be hypnotized, but Paul's hypnosis is not anything i would have expected, I felt peaceful and calm and i never thought that would have happened. The practices in the spiritual growth therapy workbook have opened my mind to new possibilities. My experience at Spiritual Growth with my therapist Lisa has been amazing. Lisa brings an entirely different approach to therapy. .. I have tried several therapists and never really felt I was making progress with my trauma, grief and loss issues.
