First off, I love this place, that’s why I made reservations for after my graduation and hyped it up to my out of town parents. However, dinner last Friday night was a major disappointment. We were sat on the beautiful, giant, unfilled patio next to a lovely trash can where the flies swarmed and sometimes bit, and where the wait staff would empty other customer’s cups by slinging them onto a tree at a rate that splashes your arm. Classy! Our server disappeared for long stents then nervously laugh and blame how busy it was, or the bar and kitchen being “a mess”. After a 30 minute wait our drinks were partially melted from sitting at the bar and not our table. Upon placing our order the special of prime rib was out… how? Friday night of a graduation in Lubbock and you ran out before 8? Cool. After a lot more waiting 3 of 4 steaks came out still mooing and one loaded potato arrived without bacon. This is Texas, there is a difference between blue, rare, medium-rare, and medium. Also, bacon is important to my husband. We’re they out of bacon too? Nope. 3 plates were sent back. My dad commented on our waiter staring at our table of 4, as if she was expecting us to leave due to the poor service. We probably should have left for my second choice, but that seems so rude. Very disappointing… the wait was way longer than they said when we checked in, my margarita tasted like straight lemon juice 🤢… then our appetizer and dinner came at the exact same time… some of the food was ice cold and the brisket had so much fat it made me nauseous. Definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND!!

We’ve always loved E&J smokehouse and go several times a year, both with large and small groups. Food is a hit or miss but atmosphere can’t be beat. Unfortunately last night was probably the worst experience I’ve had in ANY restaurant. I’m not sure which was worse, the rude hostess or the food prep/service. I will say our waiter did his best. For a Thursday at 5-6pm I thought the place was awfully dead. Me and a couple other tables. The setting of the place was really nice, along a creek. And the inside was quite nice as well. There was a one man band playing music that added just the right tone and not too loud. The service was outstanding. Although, like I said there was hardly anybody there. But she, and I forget her name, was fantastic and very attentive. I got the pork chops and, though the taste was really good, they were rather tough. Stayed with the green beans and creamed corn as it is on the menu and though both were... different...interesting... both were really good. I was surprised that no form of bread came with the meal.
