I love burritos and fish tacos but am not a fan of flour tortillas unless the contents are out this world and Spencer's did not disappoint. Local buddy whom I was visiting said "dude, you have to try the best fish tacos ever" and was confident that that was a statement he was willing to stand behind. Thankfully had wife and kids with me to order multiple things on menu and this place hit it out of the park with everything. When I saw menu for burrito with no rice and beans and with fish I was super skeptical but this place has fish tacos/burritos down to a science. Everything I ate was F'ing delicious and can't wait to visit SoCal again just for this place. More...

Came here after moving my daughter into her new home in Ventura. We sat at the bar and had a great dinner. I had a cup of the clam chowder which was fantastic. It was creamy and full of clams. I also had a World Famous Fish Taco with grilled fish, Brooklyn style. It was perfect. I think the bell peppers are a unique touch and really add to the taco. I also tried my daughter's fried calamari and chips. It was really good. The calamari was crispy in the outside and tender on the inside. I also really like the fries. It was cold so it wasn't too crowded, but I'm told it gets really busy when the weather is nice. Parking can get busy in the street. I can't wait to go back! More...

I came here for a Saturday lunch with my wife we sat inside and got a couple of beers, some chowder and Wantons with shrimp & cream cheese and 3 with jalapeños & cream cheese topped with a sweet & spicy sauce. Then I got the fried calamari with fries it was not the fresh stuff but the pressed patties cut into strips breaded and cooked, I would guess they get them pre done the sauces that they sent out with the Cala were very good.E got the Grilled Fish & Shrimp Burrito it had a generous portion of grilled fish & shrimp, chopped cabbage, onions, cilantro, white rice, salsa & our Spencer Sauce all wrapped in a large flour tortilla. Everything was good, service, the food the place was clean and everyone was nice. The food to me while good was more of a touristy kind of flavor to it not to take away from their food or business but it was an Eclectic California Beach menu atmosphere. By the time we left the place was packed inside and out. I would go back again for sure. More...

Love this place, especially at happy hour. I love having my Chief Peak with some shrimp wontons... and maybe a fish taco. .. or the Ahicado with lemon oil and chips. Add avocado, and spicy sauce whenever possible. It can get crowded sometimes, but Taco Tuesday happy hour is pretty quiet, because everyones waiting until 6pm for Taco Tuesday specials, so it's my favorite time to go! More...

OMG!!! Best seared ahi tacos ever!! A little bit of heat, a whole lot of flavor, and tortillas that actually hold up under the weight of the fish, cabbage, tomatoes, bell peppers, and sauce! I also ordered a bowl of their clam chowder. I am super picky with my clam chowder, and this was absolutely the best I've had. Cool atmosphere, great music and friendly staff top off this first of many visits here! Can't wait to come back. Maybe for dinner tomorrow! More...

My favorite place to eat FISH TACOS!!!! My boyfriend doesn't like seafood but he sure eats all the fish tacos here! He also love the wonton appetizer. It's filled with cream cheese and fried . The only bad thing I can say is the parking is terrible. But whatever I'll park far and walk here for those tempura fish tacos. I love their house dipping sauce we bought a bottle for home. More...

Does anybody ever just "stumble" upon a restaurant anymore? These days, it's nearly impossible to not know what you're walking into, especially with Yelp in the picture. It's rarely the case with me, but the other night we were hungry, had just gotten off the 101 into a city we've been to only a handful of times, saw the neon, glowing "world famous fish tacos" and had to pull over. I can't speak on whether their fish tacos truly are world-famous, but I can attest that they are the best fish tacos I've had in a loooong time. Their fish tacos are LOADED with bell peppers, cabbage, cilantro, & "Spencer Sauce". Have you ever had bell peppers in a fish taco before!? I've never even THOUGHT of putting bell peppers in a taco and now I'm wondering why this isn't done more often. It was so good! It's that plus their Spencer Sauce that makes all the difference in their tacos. I was thinking it's a mayo/tartar sauce base, turns out it's mayo + sour cream + "secret" spices. The sour cream gives it a really good tang that makes your appetite open up. My bf pretty much lives off of fish tacos and tacos in general, and he was pretty impressed with Spencer Makenzie's version. He thought it was a little too pricey - I mean, $6.50 per taco is the priciest I've ever had. But the fish batter was delicious and everything worked. If you want the most bang for your buck though, go with their burritos! It's only $2.50 more and more than double in size. My bf couldn't even finish his Shrimp & Fish Burrito. He said it was just as good as the fish taco too, although the fish was just slightly over-fried in the burrito. You can make anything "Brooklyn Style" - all that means is they mix in their Sweet Chili Fire hot sauce into the Spencer Sauce. They do have the hot sauce available on the tables if you want to add it yourself though. They have three hot sauces - none of them are very good. The Sweet Chili Fire was basically like the Thai sweet n spicy sauce you dip your spring rolls in, and the other two didn't complement our tacos either. However, they have red & green salsa in the back, don't forget to ask for it! The only disappointment was The Ahicado ($10). It's raw ahi tuna tossed in "lemon infused olive oil" and black pepper, topped with avocado & served with wonton chips. The crispy wonton chips were perhaps the only good part of this appetizer. The tuna AND avocado were completely flavorless. We asked the waitress if it came with any sauce and she said there was a "dark citrusy one" and that she could check with the kitchen. We were like "is it ponzu?" and she went, "yes! let me go get that" and returned with...the same flavorless lemon olive oil. So obviously she had no idea what she was talking about. We just used what she gave us but it was COMPLETELY flavorless. Such a disservice to raw tuna. And avocado. If everything else was a 5/5, this dish would be a 1/5. At least the tacos exceeded our expectations. We went in there with no idea what to expect and still left satisfied! More...

There are a few places I go for certain items. This place never lets me down when I want some tempura. Their tempura is delicious and the dipping sauce is perfection, whenever I get tempura elsewhere I'm always wishing I had the sauce from Spencer Makenzie's. I also enjoy the fish tacos and blackened salmon salad. The food is consistent, I know I'll get it the same everytime. No surprises. I like places I can count on to deliver every time. More...

Cute little place right on the water in Aberdeen! They serve fresh seafood and have a variety of options. We settled for the cod & chips as well as fish tacos. Fish was cooked really well, the breading was crunchy and the overall pieces didn't seem soggy. They seem to make everything fresh after you order, which may help. Fries also were delicious. Everyone behind the counter seemed very friendly and I got lovely small town vibes from this place. Beautiful view from inside or you can choose to sit outside. I saw a sign that said let's were allowed outside on the patio. If you're looking for a small town original place, come here! More...

We ate here for our first time a few weeks ago and the food is absolutely amazing! We got the ahi tacos and the ahicado. Staff was very friendly and welcomed us right away. Our server Lauren was so cute and on it 100%. Made our night. Husband ended up buying a Tshirt. The lady (probably the manager) with the glasses and fake hiiiiiiii folks probably shouldn't talk to customers (her entire presence is awful) but everything else was great! Love love love this spot!! I was visiting my friend in Ventura, and we walked to Spencer's while catching up on life. It was a beautiful LA day and the airy seating at the restaurant perfectly matched that vibe. We sat at the counter inside. There were so many delicious sounding items in the menu but ultimately I went with my friend's suggestion of fish tacos, Brooklyn style. Two was probably enough but I ordered three since I'd just gotten off the plane and was hungry. The combination of ingredients was so fresh and tasty. You know it's good when your mouth waters while writing the Yelp review. The tortilla was okay, but it was really the special sauce that made the tacos. To wash it down and decompress after my flight, I got a Pacifico. Though it seemed like there was plenty of street parking, the drive-thru line was poppin' and kept the staff busy. Can't imagine coming here when it's packed. I'd love to come here again and try other things as other Yelpers have suggested! More...

The food has to be good when the line is pouring into the street, right? I've heard some great things about this place and it did not disappoint. We came here on a busy saturday afternoon and it was packed! We opted to sit outside since it was a gorgeous day and so we ordered at the counter window and luckily snagged one of the three picnic tables they have outside. I was able to have the fish and shrimp burrito was giant and probably enough to feed two people. The seafood was cooked well - fish didn't taste dry at all. To be honest, it didn't look that appetizing, but it tasted incredible and they have a selection of sauces that you can use to supplement as needed. Additionally, I was able to try some of their wontons and fish & chips which didn't seem like anything too special, but nonetheless delicious. Overall, if you're in ventura, would highly recommend coming here! More...
