Spectrum Canine

We were referred to Spectrum K9 when our working line Shepherd was kicked out of puppy class for being too intense/aggressive. We initially had some sticker shock at the prices, but knowing we had bit off more than we could chew with this dog, we decided to take the risk.Fast forward 6 months and we have a fantastically trained, lovable, family dog. We especially enjoyed working with Spectrum for a few reasons. First, and foremost, we got results. He explained that there is no magic bullet in dog training, no replacement for hard work and consistency - and don't let any trainer tell you otherwise. He taught us techniques to train our dog, laying groundwork for a healthy relationship for years to come.The second reason why I enjoyed Spectrum K9 was because they really seemed to respect my dog. They do not use "old school" techniques of force, excessive pain or punishment as a training tactic but rather a choice/reward.Lastly, Spectrum offers free group classes for clients, where owners can put their dogs to the test and practice skills they have learned in their private lessons. This should not be overlooked when comparing prices as we found it invaluable to our training.The price may seem high, but I would happily recommend this company to any of my friends/family and in the end it was 100% worth it. Spectrum Canine is amazing! Ricky is by far the best trainer i've worked with. I trust him completely with my dogs. Although he's young, he knows more than any trainer i've met. Because of him, my dog is incredibly well behaved and i'm so so happy we took our pup to Spectrum Canine! He always posts videos and photos on social media so i'm always able to see my pup when he's away. We drive four hours to meet with Ricky! There's no good trainers where I live and we're willing to drive that far in order to get the best training for my puppy. I highly, highly recommend Spectrum Canine! More...

his group is well organized and methodical about their training practices. I always see them researching innovative ways of training while utilizing best practices from proven traditional ways of training. They did a great job with my dog and continue to still do so. We went to various training classes at a couple of pet stores, with no advances. We visited several dog training places in the Bay Area, from San Jose to Vallejo, but found their trained dogs were robotic, with little signs of a happy dog. We met Ricky on accident while walking our dog. He was running a dog training group class. We were very impressed with his students. We got a hold of Ricky the next day, and left our dog with him, for the "immersion program." Our lab puppy stayed with Ricky in his home, compared to many others who leave dog in an off-site kennel. A couple of weeks later, we got back a completely different dog. No pulling, no getting on couches, no BITING!! We love it. Ricky made the difference, from having a dog we lived with, to a dog that lives with us. This guy knows what he's doing. He identifies, and remedies the problems. We still take private lessons, and are trying to find the time to attend his group classes. Happy as hell to have met Ricky (Spectrum Canine), and what he's done with our lab, Merlot. More...

I bought a female Malinois and I had no clue what to do with her. We checked out every local trainer and Spectrum was the only one we felt comfortable with. We have done lessons and an Immersion Program and it is the only reason we have this dog still. Thank you so much Spectrum Canine. More...

I have a working Cane Corso who has been started in IPO but I've been looking for a new helper who can help work my dog in protection. I explained my thoughts on where my dog was at and some of the issues that I've been having as a result of some poor helper work and inconsistent sessions in protection. Ricky read my dog very well and worked my dog in exactly the way he needs to be worked.  As someone who owns an off breed it's hard to find helpers and trainers who understand how to work a different dog, and Ricky did a great job with that today. He understands how to utilize pressure appropriately and his reward timing is great. I'm excited to continue working with him and to work with him in the other phases of the sport as well. I'm a professional dog trainer as well, so i always really appreciate other people doing good work in the industry! More...

Ricky has been living and breathing dogs since forever. He really cares about the working dogs. He knows what he is doing. He offers a wide-ranged of training to get what you want and need from your dogs. Very transparent as a person and a business. Easy to access and active on his social media outlets.
