After reading a past review about the Southport Smoke House I had to try it! I must say the review was correct! I had the brisket sandwich with buffalo chips and I wasn't disappointed! The brisket was very tender and certainly was as good or better than my favorite brisket place in Florida! My wife had the brisket plate and she loved it! I refer to her as the "food snob" because she doesn't always like the food at some restaurants. But she loved the Southport Smoke House! Awesome food and I would encourage anyone in the area to give it a try! You won't be disappointed! More...

The food is absolutely awesome and customer care and appreciation are off the charts! We live over 4 hours away and often drive 4 hours to get there and eat then 4 hours back home, on the same day. The BBQ is excellent whether you prefer pulled pork or brisket. Brisket is my favorite and pulled pork is my wife’s favorite. Both are fantastic here and the sides are great too! The brisket is prepared Texas style. Great family atmosphere too!! More...

Friendly welcome upon entering this casual bbq place. Â Brisket was freshly carved, the Mac and cheese was gooey and delicious, hush puppies were just average with some prices of corn inside. Â Ample portion of slaw and potatoes salad. Â The pork did not have a very smoked flavor, but the brisket did. Â Reasonable prices and big variety of bbq sauces to try in a self serve fashion. Â Definitely will rerun when I am in the Southport area! More...

The staff were ALL friendly and helpful. Â The food was great and we sampled about everything except the sausage. Â Brisket was seasoned and flavorful, the chicken was still moist and nicely Smokey, the kids loved the dogs, macNcheese and beans, and we ate entirely too much of everything else. Â Would definitely visit again!(It was all eaten so quickly I didn't get any photos)Edit; the brisket was done perfect! Â When you pulled on it, it held together for a bit and then yielded apart, nicely moist and just the right amount of smoke. Â The ribs were pull-apart tender without being dried out.I liked that they offer several sauces on the side and let the meat speak for itself as it should, nothing to hide behind here, hush puppies, okra, beans, potato salad, all of the sides were very good! First time here today with DH. Â It's a casual place where you order at the counter. They have the food all ready, so no waiting. ..except for the fried okra. It must be a popular side dish.I ordered the 1/4 ribs with green beans; DH ordered the brisket plate with two sides: fried okra and mac & cheese. They have a sauce bar where you can select a variety of sauces from sweet to tangy to spicy; and everything between. My ribs were a little on the dry side, yet it was also pretty fatty; the fat wasn't rendered enough. There were just 3 ribs, which I thought was pricey for the amount given (and a portion was the fat). The plate dishes (and value meals) are a better deal. The beans were your typical southern beans with a hint of meat and savory flavors. The mac & cheese was excellent, very creamy but not overwhelming rich. We were given a few hush puppies each, which were crispy on the outside, a little bit of cheese on the inside and not saturated in grease. The brisket was the best of the meal, along with the fried okra; and I'm not a fan of okra because it's always too slimy in the middle. Not these. There's a smoke house in Leland, so we'll go check it out at some point. More...

Our first time here. Â Â Tried them out and was fairly pleased. Â Â Just as a preface, while the food was good I have to say, I am so tired of these places that give you paper trays and plastic utensils. Â I would be so much happier with a solid ceramic plate and normal metal utensils. Â Â This seems to be a trend at so many places we have gone recently. Â Â Now to the food- cole slaw they characterize as "white". Â Â It's just so so. Â Â I actually ordered the red cole slaw and had to swap it in for white. Â Â Just inedible in my humble opinion. Â Â I had a combo: pork ribs and brisket. Â Â My ribs were from an overcooked end and very dry and hard. Â Â I only ate half and finished my portion the next day at home. Â Â The ribs were much better re-heated in the microwave. Â Â The brisket was much better the first time around and drier when re-heated. Â Â My partner had pulled pork that he loved and got better textured ribs than mine. Â Â He was happy with his. Â Â This place pretty good all in all. Â Â We will be back. Â I do wish they had beef ribs. Â Â These are very hard to find at barbecue spots, maybe because they are expensive. Â Â Don't know. More...

Look. Let's all be honest. Eating is just as big a part of any vacation experience as the destination attraction itself. In fact, on beach trips once you have worn thin of baking out on the sand for long periods of time and maybe have attracted too much attention from the Sun's rays in the form of a sunburn... it might be the thing you look forward to most in a day.North Carolina is a smoked meat Mecca. We have some of the finest Q you'll find in the country, and perhaps in the world. That said, while we have mastered the fine art of smoking up a pig, we are just now realizing there's a lot more to smoked meat than just serving swine. Not only that, there are a bevy of ways to sauce your smoked meats beyond a vinegar based sauce, and for goodness sake... maybe it is OK to celebrate all of them instead of being evangelical about your regionally prefered method.Enter the Southport Smokehouse. THE destination for the best BBQ in the Oak Island and Southport area. There used to be a guy named Terry that was doing them one better... but he has since retired. Long live the new king!Folks. I don't know how to say it better than this. Everything they serve here is legit. Some things might be better than others, but you'll be hard pressed to find a meat that doesn't agree with you. The brisket is divine. The fat has rendered down to that point where it becomes more like butter... meat candy I call it. The pulled pork is tender, smoky, and receptive to any of the sauces they provide on their sauce bar. I also had some sausage, it was a jalapeno sausage that is filled right up the road at a local farm and smoked on premises. It was to die for.But without sides, these experiences can feel hollow. I am here to tell you, the sides are just as good as the meat. While the collard were over salted and not a re-order for me, the rest were slap yo mama good! You like potato salad? It's fantastic. How about mac n cheese? You know it. Baked Beans, smoky and sweet, thumbs up. The fried okra... oh man... we almost went back to the counter and ordered more to go. Buffalo hot chips?! These are the hot chips you've waited for you whole life with some ranch. Finally... the little things. They have a sauce bar featuring an entry for just about every type of regional BBQ sauce in the U.S. They aren't playing favorites! Sample them all and see what you like, study their map to see where they come from. The sauce bar even has things like pickles, jalapenos, chopped onion... it's a sight unto itself. And finally... killer sweet tea to wash it all down.Ask anyone who knows me, i am usually very critical of any barbecue I'm presented. This place is crushing it y'all. This is a gem in a small town of great eats, Southport NC. Come here on vacation. Come here if you live here. Come here just to eat. You'll love it. More...

Not Carolina BBQ. If you're not from the Carolina's or have never had BBQ you might think it's okay, but please don't let this be your impression of BBQ. They have all of the right foods on the menu and the restaurant is nice, but the meat is very dry. The meat is over smoked and lacks flavor. Most of the sauces are not good either, the tangy sauce is ok. The Mac & Cheese is clearly velveeta boxed Mac & Cheese. Collard greens are okay. Potato salad is actually decent. Sweet tea is not great either. More...

If you enjoy bbq this place has it including sides.Order at counter and then they call your name. There is a table with like 5 different sauces you pour yourself. We had a combination of smoked sausage, pulled pork, chicken, and brisket with sides of potato salad, collards and mac-n-cheese. Everything was enjoyed and the portions were good size. The brisket fell apart it was so moist. The decor is all rustic wood and tin. Great value for our meal.Look forward to another visit. More...

We gave the Southport Smoke House a try to kick off a long Labor Day weekend at Oak Island. Â My companion and I were both very pleased with our meals. Â We both ended up getting the same thing: the pulled pork plate, with red "Lexington style" slaw, fries, and hush puppies. Â The hush puppies were great: served just out of the fryer and accompanied with honey butter. Â We both received a generous portion, probably 8-10oz, of pulled pork. Â The pulled pork was solid: it was moist and had a nice, smoky flavor. It's rare to find red slaw in coastal NC, much less Lexington-style sauce, but it was spot on and a great compliment to the 'cue. Â The only misfire with our meals were the fries. The crinkle-cut fries may have been crispy at some point in the past, but they had clearly been sitting around for a long time and should have never been served. But, this was a minor bummer to what was otherwise a solid barbecue meal. Â Recommended! More...

Called next morning and explained the situation all I was offered was a cup of greens???? So what are we supposed to do eat a cup of greens and pour some sauce over it. Worst experience ever will not be going back! Management is horrible. This manager never offered to compensate us for anything! He just kept apologizing! I ask him, what if you ordered food for your family, and got home and your child says daddy where’s my fries,,,we’ll they didn’t put it in the bag son,,,,we’ll daddy where’s my sauce,,,,they didn’t put it in the bag son,so all he has to eat for his supper is some dry beef! We were vacationing in Oak Island and saw this place had pretty good reviews. It took us a minute to actually get to it since there is a lot of construction going on in downtown Southport. TOTALLY WORTH IT! I got the pulled brisket sandwich. It was packed with delicious juicy meat and their buffalo chips, sliced potatoes fried with a spicy seasoning. Never had anything like them and I already miss them. My husband tried the pulled pork sandwich and loved it! He's a bit of a bbq snob so for him to take note of the smoke ring and flavor of the meat means it's pretty good. He got a side of the fried okra and OMG it's the best I've had. We were contemplating getting a to-go order of the stuff..... Another fun option: they have a pickle, jalapeno, and onion bar, complete with like 5 different sauces you can sample. My favorite was a combo of the tangy sauce and their sweet bbq sauce. We're so happy we found this place and will be back again. More...
