South Maui fitness was absolutely perfect for my stay. I had 3 days in the Kihei area and the gym had all the essentials for a proper workout. This is a very nice small gym that had everything I needed for my work out while on vacation. All staff members (I dealt with 3 different guys) were super nice and helpful.  I went about 4 times there during my 10 days stay (they have 1 week and 2 weeks temporary membership available), and gym was always clean and not crowded at all. The only thing I didn't like (thus the 5th star is missing) was that they didn't have A/C, just 3-4 ceiling fans. I know A/C is very expensive in Hawaii, but when it's so hot outside, i would prefer to work out in a cooler place. More...

Small gym but have a good amount of free weights, machines and all.  Super friendly staff (dealt with Aaron mostly, cool and knowledgeable guy! ).  He was constantly cleaning equipment...a good thing!  For a visitor, this gym had the best rates around by far.  Not too crowded and 24 hr access...perfect.  I will be back next time! I was looking for a gym to get some quick weight workouts while i stayed a week in Kihei, which I think is the best part of the Island! I found that gym at South Maui Fitness. The owner Mia, is very nice and welcoming. The gym is very clean and you get a swipe card so you can go whenever you want, 24 hours a day. The gym is also reasonably priced. For some, gyms can be a little intimidating. I'm one of those people. I don't want to feel pressured to wear a full face of makeup when I work out or too shy to shuffle my way towards the weight room. South Maui Fitness has never made me feel either of those things. When I first walked in to tour the gym, I was blown away by the friendliness of the owner, Mia, and how knowledgeable she also was in moving over my Kaiser Active & Fit plan from my previous gym. Although the gym is small and boutique like, it has everything you need from ellipticals and treadmills to all the weights and resistance training materials you could ever need. I give it four stars because I wish fitness classes were offered there and, like most gyms on Maui, it doesn't offer a steam room or sauna like mainland gyms. During my recent trip to Maui I was looking for an option to not miss 10 days of working out. I needed a flexible schedule, a decent amount of cardio machines, dumbbells and space. South Maui Fitness hit all the notes. I stopped in during business ours and met the owner, Mia. She showed me around and set me up with a 10 day membership. I was given a barcode tag which allowed me to workout whenever I wanted, as many times as I wanted during the 10 days. If that meant 5:00 am or 10:00 pm, no problem. I hit the gym 8 days of the 10 I was on the island. Although there were frequently others using the gym while I was there, it never felt crowded. The equipment all feels new. There are fans and AC so the space always felt comfortable. The vibe of the place during the early morning is very "live and let live". Everyone just does there own thing. I never had to wait or share equipment I needed. It did not feel like I was getting in anyone else's space either. South Maui fitness is a great place to get in a workout if you are renting one of the many condos on Maui. Better equipped than most hotel fitness rooms, better maintained and quite reasonable as well at only $5 a day for a temporary membership, paid in cash. I kept the key tag as a souvenir. I just love this place! I can go ANY time of day or night as it is a true 24 hour access fitness center. I love early morning workouts. ..like 4:30am, so this place fits my needs. Access is easy with a little scan chip on my keyring. Don't let the size of the place fool you. Everything you need is here. All the equipment is fairly new, and in some cases, brand new. I love the Matrix Elliptical machine for cardio. It's also situated in front of the large flat panel TV, so I can get my CNN news fix every morning. There are free weights and a large assortment of workout machines. What this place doesn't have, is a bunch of people standing around chatting and taking selfies. It's quiet, clean, easy to get in and get my workout done without distractions. I also like the fact that there are no contracts. I pay month to month as I go. I highly recommend this fitness center. My husband and I were visiting Kihei for four weeks. We didn't want to completely give up our exercise routines so we started looking around for a gym. We needed something that didn't demand a long term membership commitment with cardio equipment for me and resistance training equipment for my husband.
Maui south fitness had everything we needed and more. The staff is helpful and friendly. You receive a fresh towel with every visit. It's squeaky clean and comfortable for every age and fitness level. It's unpretentious and open 24 hours a day. You can sign up for a certain number of sessions or just drop in. We found it very affordable too ($5.50 per session when you purchase a package of 10).
If you are a visitor in Kihei, I would highly recommend you check out this gym It's perfect for snowbirds. More...

I am an annual visitor to Maui and this is the 3rd year in a row I have joined South Maui Fitness (SMF). To me SMF offers reasonable prices for temporary off-island visitors with no contact, 24 hour card access, a great selection of clean and well maintained equipment - elliptical, treadmill, step climb, weight & benches, strength machines - and a warm up area. The gym is fairly compact but is efficiently organized to allow maximum workout space - that said, I have never found it to be crowded.  The staff are courteous and very helpful. The owner, Mia, is a certified personal trainer and kinesiologist who designed an efficient exercise regime for my wife who was trying to overcome a muscle injury. We were both impressed with the results!Other positives include a central location (2 blocks from the Times Market), lots of free parking, complementary filtered water, free Wi-Fi, a small changing room, flat screen TVs and a clean towel for your workout. The only downside is that the facility does not have a shower facility.South Maui Fitness will appeal to both novice and more advanced individuals looking to work up a decent sweat at a reasonable price. South Maui Fitness is a great place for average people to get in a good workout.  You'll never see many people here and that is part of what makes it great to me.  It's very low key compared to the other gyms on the island.It's the only gym on Maui open 24 hours which is a big plus since most places close early on our small island.The staff here is very friendly and helpful.  They aren't there 24 hours a day but you can catch them during normal business hours.  The owner of the gym is a personal trainer and also does kinesiology so she's really awesome to work with if you have any problems with old nagging injuries or alignment issues.  She mentioned that she gets referrals from local physical therapists sometimes when people have difficult cases.  She has helped me a lot with posture problems and shoulder stiffness issues and has helped me get into the best physical shape of my life. We use South Maui Fitness when we vacation on Maui. Great gym / fitness center. Not busy. They have the best temporary membership deals I could find in Kihei. It is well worth their weekly rates. It seems like some of the gyms don't want to bother with short term or drop in guests given their pricing compared to South Maui Fitness, and the other gyms have lousy hours. Plenty of free weights, machines, and cardio equipment. Free Wifi. Filtered water. 5 big TV's and treadmills with TV's.  Great concept of 24 hour access with an access card. We stay on Mountain Time so we can workout at 4:30AM. We were able to start our access on Sunday by calling and paying (since we had our access cards from our last visit). So we could workout on Sunday when there is no staff.Mia, the owner, is committed to improving the business and we talked to her several times over our 15 day vacation (we were in 2x a day.) More...

Affectionately I call this place, "My Gym". Simple, clean, no fuss, no muss gym. Just enough to get your cardio and weight training done without feeling overwhelmed as to what machine does what and etc. 24 hour access too so it's wonderful to be able to exercise on your own time. It's a small gym, but what's great is that it's hardly packed. I've been going consecutively for a year now and the most people I saw at once was 6, including me.
