I had the great pleasure of attending the Fine Art & Painterly workshop by Simon in South Carolina. I don't even know where to begin with this experience. I learned how to go from creative concept to client interaction to finished art in two of the most intensive and mind blowing days of instruction that I've had since embarking on my journey as a professional photographer. I attended Simon Diaz’s PAINTERLY CONCEPTUAL PORTRAIT workshop in sept, 2019. It is amazing as he leads you through the process of turning a photograph into a story--- he gently pushes you to get inspired and form a concept of a picture story in our brain and then press forward with lighting foremost! I had the amazing opportunity to model at Simon’s Fine Art Portraiture class and it was an experience that I will not forget. Though I was only a model I learned how to better pose to make my legs look longer and how to better position my hands for a more flattering look. The photos that were produced by the photographers in the class were all exceptional and have definitely made my portfolio more diverse. I would highly recommend attending one of his events as he is a master of his craft and has so much information and advice that could help anyone enhance their skills. Simon doesn't just take your photo, he creates an experience. His studio is warm and welcoming. He has a lot of different wardrobe and jewelry options to choose from as well as the option to have a makeup artist. He and his wife are not only professional, but friendly and funny! Shooting with Simon was easily one of my best shooting experiences. As soon as I walked into the studio, I could tell how passionate he is about his work, and how much attention to detail he shows for the comfort and care of his models. I’ve shot with several people and NEVER have shot with someone that has thought out their studio as much as Simon, and his wife and son are absolutely fantastic too! His wife was super sweet and helped me with my hair and makeup several times, they are both very personable, communicative, friendly, and professional. This experience is one that I would absolutely recommend to everyone, I felt very comfortable during the shoot, they have a wide range of accessories, props, wardrobe, and background, and the quality of the images is so wonderful too. They asked me for my feedback at the end of the shoot, what I enjoyed and what I would change, and honestly even 24 hours later, I can not think of one single thing I would change about shooting here. Seriously, one of the best shooting experiences I’ve EVER had, some of my favorite photos I’ve ever received back from a photographer, and just overall so excited to have had the opportunity to shoot with Simon and his wife Diana, and absolutely can not wait to shoot again soon! Where do I start with this photographer for my teens. Simon is a well educated and talented photographer. He really gets involved in his shoot. Not just for the picture but for the art of his shoot. He taught my kids a lot at their shoot with him and explained about giving him feed back as a photographer and what they expect out of the shoot. That's what we loved because it will teach my kids how to respond for future shoots/castings/modeling industry ect.. modeling is more then just a pretty face there is talent along with it. I had the opportunity to do a photo shoot with Simon. I am still blown away from the images he took of me. The lighting, detail, texture, and colors are so gorgeous. I also got to meet his wife and son. Simon’s wife was so sweet and helped me with my costumes, and I even got to shoot in one of her custom floral headpieces. Their son son helped with props. The atmosphere was very fun and relaxed. I loved being at his studio. Simon also has wardrobe, props, and accessories available for models as well. (Some of the pieces are vintage, which I adore). We work with quite a few of photographers. Simon provides a warm, hospitable environment that made my daughter feel very comfortable even though she had left her wardrobe bag at home and was pretty upset. The studio experience with Simon was second to none. He has a specific creative vision that I haven’t seen yet-super unique use of backdrop/lighting/props/posing ,good specific directions with regard to poses. Images are powerful, commanding, yet not overdone since Ava is 14. So appreciate his eye, his creative vision and process, hospitality. His wife was willing to touch up hair and makeup and offered water. Also, he was super flexible, worked to edit quickly, and allowed me to choose shots for editing, which I really appreciated.
