I LOVE Shiraz!! There is so much flavor in all their dishes. Because the hummus at Shiraz is so buttery and delicious, but can't eat any other hummus because none compare. The only reason this location doesn't get five stars is the shitty attitude of the people behind the counter. I checked online to make sure they were open- it was 8pm and two sites list they're open until 9. I walked through the door at 8:05 and they were already packed up ready to close the kitchen. They hollered that they close at 8:30 and hesitated when asked if I could place a to-go order. While waiting for my food (30 minutes), they acted shitty and turned away five customers who were there well before 8:30. They bitched about those customers the whole time. More...

All I can say is wow!!!! Persian food is definitely a weakness for me and I am glad to have found a place with great rice and koobideh. My wife's father is Persian so holiday trips there he would always have something new to try and i looked forward to trips there. Now I can have something close to home.The staff is great, the owner/son combo is like the dream team on the grill so if you have a chance to have either of them prepare your meal you are in for a treat. As a mom who is always on the go, sometimes having fresh, tasty food made by others is key. Between my husband and I Shiraz is always a front runner when it comes to picking fast, good for your body choices. Similar to many other restaurants, when I eat Shiraz, many times it is take out. I would give this Shiraz a five star rating if it wasn't for a lack of consistency in quality. Depending the crew, depends on what you get. This is a great Mediterranean cafe. It's a local gem. The staff is friendly and is happy to make recommendations if needed. We stop and eat here or place to go orders at least once a week. The eggplant is my favorite item! It has scrambled eggs inside so you get a good balance of veggie and protein. The pita is always fresh, chewy and light. It's not a dense pita. We also love the chicken kabobs here, they are juicy and full of flavor. The hummus isn't my favorite hummus in the city but it's probably 3rd on the list. OK, so I really enjoy Shiraz, my issue is with the Highlands location. The main issues are:1. Order accuracy and honesty (I ordered rice w no butter and it had butter. I asked the lady up front if it had butter, she said it shouldn't but I can ask. Never returned)2. The guys in my he kitchen were not wearing hairnets. Long hair and dreads with no hairnet is noticeable. 3. No roasted veggies with the kabobFood quality was very high as usual. My party had salmon steak and chicken kabobs and it was as always excellent. I have been to 4 different Shiraz' now and this one on Bardstown road is the only one I had issue with. We've been going to the Bardstown Road Shiraz pretty close to when it opened  a few years ago, and we've enjoyed the food and service quite a bit.  I wanted to give the restaurant some huge love for our trip there today 7/7/2019 for making my mother-in-law's birthday incredibly special.  She turned 80 and everyone in the restaurant made it extra special.  We always get great service and delicious Persian food every time we go,  but their service sets them apart.  Thanks to everyone at the restaurant for making it a special day for our whole family!!! This place is so wonderful. Disclaimer: Last week was the first time I've ever been, but I will go back and back!The menu is extensive, full of healthy, light wonderful and flavorful options. It was hard to decide what to order! As we waited (and not for very long) for our food I noticed how big the portions are, which I really appreciate. Literally has been my favorite go to healthy restaurant for about 10 years! So fresh and full of flavor!! I stick with the kabobs (chicken is my favorite) but you really can't go wrong. This is unlike any grilled chicken I have had anywhere else, so juicy and full of flavor!! Don't skip the tzatziki sauce to dip it in. I typically don't even like rice but I love all 3 rice choices (white, herbal and lentil). The sweet potato fries with the Siracha honey is addicting! I would eat here every day if I could! The chicken kabob is amazing. Has such great flavor and is cooked really well. Get it with white rice and tzaziki sauce and it'll change your world. They're amazing in house but I've taken food out every once in a while and there's something missing every time. Either the hummus of tzaziki sauce which really makes a difference in your meal. We've always been big fans of Shiraz at their other locations. Lucky for us they opened this location on Bardstown Rd, middle of the Highlands, just a few blocks from our house. AND this is their first location with beer and wine. This food begs to be eaten with a cold beer or a glass of wine. My favorites: Falafel wrap, Chicken Kabob, Greek salad, Vegetable Kabob, Lamb Kabob....but everything is terrific, very fresh, classic healthy Mediterranean food. You will not be disappointed. If it's busy and you're in a big hurry then please come back later. It's a small place and they can't staff for a rush of people, naturally. I've only had take out from Shiraz. Once each at the Bardstown Rd. location and the Poplar Level location. I've gotten the same thing both times, the hummus appetizer and the falafel wrap. Not only were they consistent in taste and quality from each location, but they were simply put the best hummus and falafel wrap I've ever had, anywhere ever. Just ate here for my first time . Immediately appreciated the look of the restaurant , clean and just had a cool layout . Bricks around the grill just looked really cool and the nice marble counter tops . Idk , I really enjoy that stuff . They have an awesome chicken wrap and it was definitely bigger than I expected as well . The herb rice is definitely the move , I suggest trying that as a side . Today was my first experience at Shiraz. My husband and I met up with a friend here as it was suggested. I was completely surprised that I had never been. First of all, let me say that the atmosphere was very cute and inviting and I loved all of the vibrant colors! The food was amazing and full of flavor.
