This past March (2018), Gutenberg College hired Sheild Catering to provide food for a College Preview day. This was a significant event—we invited new families to learn about and participate in our community. Sheild Catering provided exceptional service for this important event. Our guests enjoyed beautifully cured, thin-sliced lunch meat, delectable homemade pickled onions, and fresh vegetables. Everything was tasty, expertly prepared, and artistically displayed. The dinner Sheild Catering provided was also outstanding! The highlight was the fresh berry cobbler for desert. Pig and Turnip serves up a wide variety of delicious, locally sourced food, and the service is friendly and prompt. We especially love the karte burger! In addition to being fans of their food, we also love working with them as a vendor. As farmers we appreciate their commitment to local food, and to our farm in their use of our salad greens. Wonderful, caring, and creative company! They catered our wedding and everyone was thrilled with the delicious, organic food. I highly recommend them! We had around 75 guests at an outdoor venue and Natalie prepared smoked brisket, pulled chicken, gluten-free cornbread, flower salad, and baked beans. From start to finish I am beyond happy with my decision to have Sheild Catering do the food for my wedding! Meeting with Natalie was a delight, I had a very basic idea of what I wanted and she helped me really nail down an amazing menu and was incredibly easy to work with! On the wedding day she and her husband (it was a small wedding we only needed the two of them) showed up on time, with a mountain of food! Sheild catered my wedding for about 50 folks in our backyard in Eugene. Six courses: appetizers, main course, salad, cheese, dessert, chocolate. All very well done, we were very happy. Main course was cornish hens with a ginger/thyme/wine sauce and carrot medley. The cheese course [which we served with a local pinot noir] was very popular. Courteous servers and attentive. The crew came by a few days before and we worked everything out, which they pulled off without a hitch. The one, small issue was that they had told me originally they could pour wine but it turns out they cant. But we easily found someone else to do that, so no biggie. Sheild catering is unparalleled in this community. I cannot recommend them enough. Chef Natalie is a joy to work with and her talent and skill in not only crafting a superb menu, but managing to cook for and 150+ at once is otherworldly.

When my husband and I started planning our wedding, we made food a top priority. If people have negative comments about a wedding, I've found that it usually has to do with the food. It's completely understandable, of course. I would imagine that it's challenging to deliver a delicious, hot and widely-appealing meal to hundreds of people simultaneously; Chef Natalie pulls it off beautifully.

We were thrilled with the unique, creative and ultra-delicious menu Sheild Catering put together and beyond impressed with the skill in which it was presented. My 5 star rating is not just for the quality of food but the superb attention to detail, willingness to tailor menus for each event, and commitment to professionalism. Natalie Sheild prepared an assortment of cheeses, meats, olives, and nuts to pair with wine at Sweet Cheeks Winery. She went above and beyond and the set up was beautiful. Natalie is amazing! Not only did she tailor a five-day meal plan to fit the needs of our 25-person film crew, and our rather disparate dietary needs, she made it happen within our budget. Each delicious meal had gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, vegetarian, and even Paleo options. All while staying within our budget(!). Over and over again, the crew commented how this was the best food experience they had ever had on a film set, or even with a personal chef. Natalie was incredibly friendly, knowledgable, and accommodating to our bizarre schedule and needs. She prepared three hot meals a day, with snacks and desserts that everyone could enjoy. Always up before we began the day and the last one to go to sleep. Her presentation was impeccable and she left the kitchen spotless. I was shocked how many fresh vegetables I ate over the course of the shoot--- her recipes were incredible, and healthy. What could be better than that? Her lemon herbed chicken was definitely one of my favorite meals, the kind of dish that is perfect wedding or party food. This meal was better than what was served at my wedding. The BBQ pulled pork dinner, or pot roast, mashed potatoes, and vegetable medley kept our crew coming back for seconds. I can't speak highly enough of the quality of the food. She sourced most of the vegetables from local farmers and only served high quality meats and eggs. Fresh focaccia bread warmed us from within. Her popcorn bar, with four kinds of sweet and savory toppings, boosted morale on the last day. Whether cooking for an individual, a group, a wedding, or a film crew, Natalie's repertoire is hands down, freaking amazing. We will definitely be using her again in the future.
