I had to cancel some plans I had made with a friend for my engagement photo shoot as her flight was cancelled due to a hurricane heading this way. I started searching for photographers and came across Sheila. Thanks to her flexibility she was able to squeeze us in and kept in close contact as we were both watching the weather very closely.We have never had a professional photographer take our pictures. I got to admit I was nervous how we were going to be in front of the camera and if we were going to be awkward with a stranger there. But from the moment we met Sheila all the anxiety faded away, her positive energy and calm nature made us feel at ease. We had great conversations on our ride to the mountains and by the time we got there it seems like we have known each other for quite some time. I cannot say how grateful we are for Sheila's photo shoot today. Despite freezing temps and rain, she managed to get our baby and toddler both giggling (along with my husband, who dislikes taking pictures any time). We were all having so much fun, time flew by and we could hardly believe she had finished. Nonetheless, she managed to capture so many priceless images and we're having trouble narrowing down which to get framed. She is just magical! More...

Sheila took plenty of time and had abounding presence and patience with our family of 5, which includes 2 busy toddlers. Her photographs captured the magic and the mundane of the ins and outs of our family life, with ease and grace. Our children instantly bonded with her and were able to act like themselves, which allowed her to capture their true spirits. Her pictures are beyond perfect... professional at its best. I’ve sat to write this review on several occasions and the words just never seem to do it justice. We hired Sheila to photograph our destination elopement and mountain top sunset photos. Her photography skills are top notch. She has an eye to capture the most incredible moments. She is professional, personable, kind and genuine. If you're tired of doing the dance of looking for a wedding photographer (like we were), just stop looking and talk to Sheila. She took the time to talk to us before booking, met us up on the side of a mountain, and gave us a magical engagement session. She was patient with the awkwardness that comes with a professional photo shoot, with our dog's clumsiness on the rocks, and with our lack of creativity. Most of us don't love having our pictures taken. We feel the awkwardness of the moment more than the authenticity of it. It takes a special set of circumstances to feel at ease in these moments. Creating those circumstances/environment is one of the strengths of a great photographer. Sheila Mraz put us at ease and somehow directed our attention towards enjoying each other instead of focusing on the camera. And then, she saw us. Her eye is directly connected to her heart and the way that she captured my family was absolutely stunning. Our scattered, chaotic nature is a part of who our family is and Sheila saw that, embraced it and captured it in such an honest way. She also saw the love that ties that scattered, chaotic energy together. To be seen, understood and beautifully rendered in these photographs is, in retrospect, exactly what we wanted. Sheila Mraz found time to guide our family through an afternoon of delightful fun. As it threatened rain in Western North Carolina, she took three generations of family and evoked laughter, tears, connection, and beauty. Her ability to make us all comfortable and to make us feel great was amazing. She has a natural and professional eye for photographic settings, light, and background and is able to invite the very best from those she is with. It had been maybe 11 years since our family had participated in a photography session like this and I was so grateful.
The photos themselves were powerful. She captured the essence of our family as well as the individual characteristics of each one of our group of six.
Even without the amazing photos that we received, it was simply a fun afternoon. Our family felt happy and joyful as we left the natural setting near Beaver Lake. We were more connected to one another and will recommend Sheila Mraz with the highest possible regard. I would recommend Sheila for Graduation photos, a birthday surprise, engagement, family photos, weddings. I can’t think of a better way to capture Western North Carolina that spending an afternoon with Sheila in the Mountains. We can’t say enough about how thankful I am to have had Sheila shoot our wedding day (and engagement shoot). She is so passionate, and her positivity and enthusiasm is truly contagious! The planning process for me was a bit of a nightmare and I wound up changing everything multiple times (venue, caterer, big wedding to small, etc.). She was so open to the changes (even last minute ones) and never let stress take over. (I have been in other weddings where the photographer was overwhelmed, inattentive, and frustrated which put a huge burden on the wedding party, family, and event.) Sheila has a calm about her that is so perfect and so lovely to be around, especially on such a chaotic, exciting, and emotional day! Her husband Max was our second photographer and he is just as fabulous as she is. They are the perfect team! (#relationshipgoals) They worked so well together and were so much fun to be with.

On the morning of the wedding, Sheila greeted me with the most perfect vanilla latte (much needed) and jumped right in. Our wedding ceremony was taking place at my fathers home so I was a little worried about what the background of the photos would be like but she did an amazing job! She captured all of the little moments so beautifully; we will cherish these forever. I am truly in awe of how she shot every little detail and every little moment of the day. I might have cried more happy tears looking through the photos than I did on the day of the wedding. She got all of the little moments with my nieces and nephews, my two brothers, my father helping set up, and so much more.

Sheila also shot our engagement photos back in October. This was my now husband and I’s first time having professional photos done. We were a little nervous and not sure what to do or how to “pose.” Sheila took away all the nerves. Within the first few seconds it felt like there wasn’t even a camera there. She talks you through it and lets your personality and love shine through. We would recommended her 100 times over and can not wait to have her shoot future milestones in our life.
