I’m writing over a year after my wedding due to being a slacker with reviews, but here we go.

Shawn Black did the photos for my best friends wedding before he had his own company. Seeing his work three years before my own wedding, I knew without a doubt that I wanted him to photograph mine and my husband’s. His level of professionalism is hard to find, and trust me we met with a lot of photographers. My husband wanted to shop around before we met with Shawn Black, but from the first meeting, even my husband was sold.

From the initial meeting, to the engagement session, to the day of planning, Shawn was with us every step of the way. He was honest when explaining to us that we would have to have a first look, something that crushed me at the time, but took the time to explain why it would be better than seeing each other at the alter. He had everything you’d need on your wedding day if something went wrong with your dress too, which was helpful when my bustle didn’t work.

The day of our wedding, the heavens opened up and I was crushed. Shawn, however, kept me calm and an eye on the weather. He told me, “I’ve never Not gotten to take the pictures because of rain.” He delayed is for an extra 15 minutes past when we were supposed to leave, and wouldn’t you know it, the rain had stopped for the weekend. I swear he’s that good! Our first look was just as amazing as he promised it would be, if not more. My husband still talks about it when friends ask about the pictures.

Shawn was in places we didn’t even realize during the ceremony. Pictures of family and friends that I had no idea he or Vail (our second photographer) took were a surprise when we first viewed them months later. He interacted with the guests at the reception, and he was always aware of what Shawn and I were doing together, getting those perfect shots. Family and friends were telling us at the end of the night how amazing they thought our photographer was. I also think he cried during mine and my dad’s father daughter dance, sorry!

When we got our photos later on, my husband and I were blown away. I still look at the photos randomly and it brings me back to that day. When all is said and done, your photos are what you have forever. My husband and I are so happy that we have those memories captured so beautifully. And I’m happy to be able to call Shawn Black a friend at the end of all of this. More...

I decided to do a boudoir shoot first because it was an item on my bucket list and second I recently lost some weight. I had a friend do a shoot with Shawn at Couture Black Photography and the results were FABULOUS! From first contact with Shawn in regards to a boudoir photo shoot, there was nothing but professionalism and self-confidence building. The time Shawn spent with me at my pre-shoot was commendable. He asked me lots of questions to get to know me so that he could know what I was really looking for. I am a nervous person and a bit insecure about my ‘problem areas’, Shawn told me not to worry.
The day of my photo shoot I was definitely a nervous wreck, his hair and makeup woman was outstanding and made me feel like a model. Shawn played music in the background to help calm my nerves and get me in the groove. When I was beautified and ready to go, Shawn explained exactly what was going to happen, how my poses would make my best assets be seen and my areas of insecurity will be hidden. He was calm, gentle, and took his time to get the best shots. When my shoot was over I left walking on air. I was already planning my next shoot.
When I was called to see my photos I was again nervous, I wasn’t sure I would like any as I hate any picture of myself. At my reveal Shawn was genuinely excited for me to see my pictures. He played the video of my pictures, when the video was over, I had NO words, and all I could do was cry. My pictures were beautiful, Shawn shot me in perfect angles, and I saw no flaws. I LOVED MY PHOTOS. Shawn spent time with me going over my pictures and making sure I got the exact ones I wanted. Shawn had previously assured me he would make me feel my best, HE DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
Shawn made me feel beautiful, confident, sexy, empowered, things I do not think I have every really felt before. I would recommend every woman in the world get a boudoir shoot and every woman go to Couture Black Photography. There are not enough words of praise for Shawn and his skills! More...

I had the pleasure of working with Shawn Black for a boudoir session this summer. This is something I never thought in 1 million years that I would do, and something that now that I not only recommend for everyone to try at least once, but definitely use Couture Black! Shawn will make you feel comfortable, and break any nerves floating around by showing you whatever pose he's looking for himself before you start. He is innovative and really gets to know you and your personality so the session is exactly what you want it to be. The images he produces are beautiful, professional and showed me how truly beautiful I am in a way that I had never looked at myself before. Couture Black is worth every penny for the experience that they produce for their clients.

I am truly ecstatic that I got to work with Shawn, and cannot wait to work with him again. He'll tell you that boudoir photography is addicting and once you do it once you'll be hooked, and he's right. The confidence and sass that comes before, during & after the shoot has gotten me to book with him next year for my 5 year anniversary.

It took me a long time to take a step over the line and try boudoir photography but once I did, I immediately regretted waiting so long. Shawn is professional, encouraging and extremely creative. WOW! WOW! WOW! F*&K Wow!

Words truly cannot describe my experience as well as the end product. I chose to do a Boudoir shoot with Shawn Black for my boyfriend as a holiday gift, thinking this was truly HIS present. Much to my surprise and delight this was the best gift I have ever given to myself. Through Shawn's eyes/camera, this plus size woman, who struggles with body confidence daily, now has a portfolio of amazingly beautiful pictures. I look at that them and pinch myself..."THAT'S ME". I was completely speechless when I received the album. Shawn was the utmost professional and has a keen eye for detail in this specialty. The allure of a woman through his lens will never disappoint any of his customers. He captured my "assets" perfectly and left out those areas that I am not so proud of creating the most beautiful images I have ever seen. As the saying goes... "Just Do It" and you will be so happy you did.

It is more than just a photo shoot; it is the entire journey that Shawn takes you through that sets him apart from his competitors. I am so insanely amazed by the work of Shawn Black. I was lucky enough to participate in a “Body Confidence” campaign with five other amazing other women and could not have asked for a better experience. I am a bit of a sporty tomboy so I wasn’t sure if I would match up to the feminine approach Mr. Black was suggesting. Not only did he help bring out my feminine side but he helped me feel proud of my femininity and to feel accomplished. The pictures he took were absolutely breath-taking. I couldn’t believe that these pictures were me! I couldn’t stop looking at them… every part was delightful in every way. I wound up giving these pictures to my now-husband for a wedding gift and he was VERY, very pleased.

Additionally, Shawn Black is a very down-to-Earth and personable professional. Where do I begin?! Shawn is AMAZING!! From our initial meeting and him going through how everything the day of the shoot would go, to the actual day of my shoot when my nerves were through the roof, to my awesome teaser pic to sitting down with him for my full image reveal, he always made me feel comfortable. I met Shawn through the Body Confidence Campaign. I was so incredibly lucky to be chosen as the recipient for this incredible opportunity (Just one more amazing thing about Shawn - his desire to give back! ). I am a breast cancer survivor and my body has gone through unimaginable changes. I had always struggled with self confidence and after my body was disfigured I struggled even more. I was beyond nervous for this boudoir shoot but hesitantly excited as well. Once I met Shawn I knew I was in good hands. I felt comfortable and at ease and so excited to start shopping for my wardrobe and pinning ideas for the shoot! Being able to give input and collaborate with Shawn is something that makes his approach even more special. The day of my shoot I had a blast. His glam team is fantastic. Shawn was first introduced to us by a friend of mine, who raved about Shawn's amazing photography from her own wedding. We are so happy that we booked him as our own photographer because we can't imagine our pictures being any better. Shawn Black literally made my wedding day complete! He was extremely professional and clearly passionate about his craft. Working with Shawn was a great experience! He's very friendly and down to Earth and super easy to get along with. He made us very comfortable during our engagement pictures, which made the wedding day a lot more enjoyable. The pictures he took came out absolutely stunning. The only thing that wasn't totally what we wanted was the family and bridal party portrait. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great so we had to take them inside and the chosen space was a bit hectic and cramped.
