Shakespeare and Co.

Went to the downtown location for lunch with co-workers. It was my first time there. The decor was an interesting French baroque/rococo meets modern with distressed and pastel elements. Someone better versed than me in decor might call it shabby chic? Lovely decor. Excellent service. I had the bourbon burger with fries and a water. The burger consisted of beef with bacon, onion rings, onion, lettuce tomato, cheese, and a bourbon barbeque sauce. The burger was thin, but large in circumference, too large for the bun, in fact, which was a problem when combined with the greasiness of the burger--so greasy it was dripping--a lot. I had to dab the grease with a napkin and the grease was all over my hands. So I was glad I asked for no tomato or I would have had a really big mess on my hands. The bacon, which I didn't realize was on there was too undercooked for my taste. This seems to be an issue with almost every restaurant I go to. In my mind, bacon should CRUNCH--at least a little--or at least be firm enough that it won't droop. If bacon droops, you haven't cooked it enough. Am I the only one who believes in the crispy bacon fairies? So I removed the bacon--which made me sad. It's a crime to waste bacon. But maybe the trash pandas will enjoy it. Maybe it's a trash panda conspiracy to get their paws on all the bacon by convincing cooks all over town to undercook bacon. Well-played trash pandas, well-played. The lettuce was a spring mix which was okay, but doesn't stand up to the heat of the burger as well as romaine or iceberg, so it wilted and was a little messy. Aside from the messiness/grease, the burger itself was cooked to perfection (I asked for medium). The bourbon BBQ sauce was amazing. I'd like to have a bottle of the sauce to use at home! I absolutely loved this place! The food was great and the service even better! Last winter during a pretty bad snow storm my friends and I decided it would be a good idea to go out to eat! We did not realize how bad the weather was getting and that we should probably have stayed home. We showed up at Shakespeare and Co and were the only ones there. Even though I’m sure they were hoping to leave early they treated us extremely well and even gave us a special treat and allowed us to try a new drink not yet on the menu! This place is amazing. They have multilingual staff who are incredible and efficient. I absolutely love the decor. The place aims to cater to people who want something casual as well as the people who want something fancy. We also had my daughter's Sweet 16 birthday here. I absolutely love the new management. I went on a date at this location two months ago and the experience was awful!! My fiancée and I went Sunday for brunch and we were blown away by the service. Our server Tyler was attentive and very fast with his service! The manager came by and checked on us and had a very friendly conversation about the future of the resteraunt. Excellent menu selection. Very upscale cuisine. The leg of lamb was superb. The service took a bit longer than I would have liked, but the ambience more than made up for rhe wait time. The concept is unlike anything currently in Lexington and the food quality easily rivals some of the bigger names in Lexington.
