We went in for a weekend buffet. Service was great and they took good care of us. The buffet spread was limited and the taste was good. Rooftop dining overlooking the bay was pleasing to the eye. The kids even had space to move around and there was something for everyone's taste. It would be better if they had more dishes and desserts for the buffet lunch. More...

I went to Stony Brook University for my undergrad and graduate school. So when I was back out east, I knew I had to revisit Curry Club and go for their famous lunch buffets. Through doing some research prior, I learnt that the Curry Club I knew located in Setauket at 10 Woods Corner Road was now located in Port Jefferson and the Curry Club merged with SāGhar. We were very excited to still try it especially since we knew that Kulwant Wadhwa, the owner of The Curry Club, was still there and of course the great reviews on Yelp. Curry Club at SaGhar now overlooks the harbor. We sat upstairs. All the buffet food is located on the first floor. There are trays of different food such as, chicken tikka masala, goat curry, fish, mix kebabs. All of it is delicious and worth the price. It was $24.99 per person for a Sunday afternoon. You will be so full after the meal. Service was wonderful and we were happily welcomed by Kulwant Wadhwa. There were beautiful views and I would definitely come back. More...

This place has a great view. Full stop. While visiting my MIL, we drove out to Port Jefferson for just that - a view. We searched for some highly rated restaurants and Curry Club sounded good. When we pulled into the parking lot, we got great parking. We arrived pretty early in the evening so we scored a beautiful table in their covered rooftop dining area. We ordered our drinks and they came fairly quickly. I had their Agni Margarita, which was very refreshing. It contains muddled cucumber and jalapeño, with a tajin rim. Hubby had their LIT and he was happy with it. Both drinks had decent pours of alcohol. We had papadam and the sauces automatically served. We also ordered some apps which came out pretty quickly but our mains took some time to come out. The Dish Mulligatawny Soup - I've had it once before and like it but tonight's was not appealing. It was very bland which was super surprising. It seriously needed salt or something. Basket Of Naan - this is a good option for a 3 or more diners. You get onion kulcha ans garlic naan breads. I wish they were fluffier and not so dry. Chicken Tikka Kebabs - hubby had this dish and enjoyed it. One thing that should be mentioned is that they don't automatically serve rice with your entrées. You need to ask for it and there will be an extra charge. Tandoori Mixed Grill - my MIL opted for this dish. It came with chicken tikka, tandoori chicken, malai kebab (chicken), fish tikka and some tandoori prawns. The online menu doesn't mention the shrimp but she definitely had as least two large shrimp. Again, there is not a side that automatically comes with your main so you must order it separately. My MIL was not too pleased with her dish. She did not like the taste of the proteins. She did order some pulao rice to go with her food and shared that with my husband. Kid's Chicken Tenders & Fries - my Little ordered this. Her food came out at the same time as our which annoys me because food for kids should pretty much always come out before the adults' mains, at least at the same time as the appetizers. She only ate the fries and didn't seem too interested in the chicken but that could be because it came out pretty hot and by the time the chicken cooked off, she had already eaten a fair amount of the fries. Lamb Vindalu - for a place with the word "curry" in its name, one would think that the curry would be exceptional. Unfortunately, it fell completely flat. Firstly, I can't even tell you if the meat they used was actually lamb. It was so overdone that I thought it was beef. A second piece made me think it could be an old lamb (mutton), or possibly even goat. I'm leaning towards goat. I eat goat, as I'm of Jamaican heritage, but if I order lamb, that's what I want. The vindalu was bland, which has to be difficult to accomplish with such a spicy dish. I asked for raita and just finished what was on my plate. During our dinner, one of the waiters spilled liquid down my back, the back of my chair, my sweater, my purse, my pants and the floor near my chair. I was startled and my husband assured me that it was just water. When I turned to see what happened, I saw that the server dropped some glasses of water. He looked right up and me, smiled and walked away. There was no, "Sorry", no offer of a napkin. He said nothing. We flagged down someone else to ask for a napkin, I dried myself off and continued with the meal. The encounter 100% turned me off to the restaurant and it's staff. If the food was good, maybe that could have made up for the experience but it was not. I'm used to enjoying the flavor of Indian food that is was sad everything was bland. Perhaps it's due to the clientele in the area. I'm quite surprised, considering they have such a high rating. It could be due to their beautiful views of the marina or cleanliness of their restaurant, but I seriously can not believe it is due to the food. I have had much better. More...

Delicious food. Quick Service. Thoughtful and understanding staff. Beautiful seating near waterfront. I first walked into the building and saw news articles on the wall from local magazines. The owner was represented in the article in a picture. I walked into the restaurant and was immediately greeted by the owner. He was here, how cool! I let him know we've never been to his restaurant and he seated us upstairs. It was a little hot at first even with the windows open, but it cooled down as the night set in. Authentic menu. We ordered veggie Samosas for starters - yum! Then, my friend and I shared paneer with rice and garlic naan. The restaurant stayed open well past when we left close to 10. We came inside had to walk around to find a host to seat us, then we had to specifically ask for water for the table. The service is very poor and slow. Buffet items have no variety, one of my most favorite buffet items for Indian food is the kheer and it taste's basically like custard powder with rice and milk. The lamb curry was also very salty. Definitely do not recommend curry club, we will not come eat Indian here again, unfortunately and to pay $22.95 per person for buffet is ridiculous, next time will eat Indian buffet in queens or hicksville, so disappointed with driving over an hour to eat nostalgic curry club food and end up unhappy. We met another couple for dinner here because they love this place and I have to agree! Our table was on the second floor where it has an open 360 view of the area. It was a little chilly, but it is covered but with unobstructed views. My buddy ordered everything and unfortunately, I missed taking pictures of the apps. The vegetable samosas and chili gobi were very good but I cannot remember the others. For dinner, he ordered chicken tikka masala, a lamb special curry that I forgot to write down, Tandoori chicken, Dal Makni, Alu Gobi, basket of naan and basmati rice. If you come here, the basket of naan is a MUST GET! There are 2 or 3 different naans that you should use to dip and scoop up the curry and other dishes. Almost all of the dishes were very good, even the vegetarian dishes, which is saying a lot because I am a carnivore to the bone. The only one I was not thrilled about was the Tandoori chicken. We ordered it because another table ordered it and when their dish passed us, the smell was so good. However, once we got it, the flavor did not live up to the aroma as it was bland. Service was anything but though as our waiter was amazing. My buddy's wife is a vegetarian, and once the waiter found out, he would be careful to point out everything that she could not eat, including any of the cream sauce dishes, which were most. She ordered a customized fish curry dish that they left out the cream. There was so much food that I could not even take a bite of hers. Too bad it is so far, otherwise I would be a regular. More...

I had the pleasure of trying out the Curry Club here in Port Jefferson tonight and it was fantastic. To start, the seating area on the second floor is lovely. It's decorated with lights, drapes, and different colored lights at each table all while overlooking the water along the coast of Port Jeff. Our servers were very patient throughout the night and offered help wherever they could. For starters we had the Chicken Lollipops which were juicy, crunchy and adequately saturated with this thick, spicy, sweet sauce they finish them with. We also had their Vegetable Samosas which were stuffed with a soft yet well spiced potato mixture while the outside was pillowy and crisp, the mint chutney and sweet red sauce paired perfectly with these. For mains we kept it basic, Chicken Tikka Masala & Beef Biryani. As for the Tikka, the chicken was tender and the sauce was rich but NOT greasy! The Biryani was as aromatic as you can ask for and the flavors were great, the beef was notably super tender. We also had a side of Garlic Naan which were nicely charred and paired well with the mains. This was a very enjoyable meal and more than satisfied my Indian craving, I should probably try their curry next time! More...

But sadly we were disappointed the buffet was a let down not much variety and my faves the chicken tikka and lamb were disgusting. the chicken was rubbery and had no flavor. The tandoori chicken was tasteless and the meat was poor quality with a bad aftertaste. The lamb dish was filled with bony pieces and fat not much to flavor either. Sad to say for $187 it was not well spent. Also forgot to mention you have to go to a different floor for the buffet. It was not fun going up/down stairs with a child and carrying food. I come here pretty frequently with my friends. There are usually either two or three of us each time and every time, without fail, we have the best time and all love our dishes. The restaruant itself is absolutely beautiful, whether you sit on the "inside" or up on the covered viewing porch. The service is really amazing, the waiters never even write down our orders and they are all perfectly accurate each time. I've tried several dishes and my favorites are their butter chicken, basmati rice and potato stuffed naan. My friends usually order lamb or seafood dishes and love them. The portions are very generous, we all always have a delicious treat to take home for lunch the next day. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. The last time I was there was a cold windy day in January and my friends were running a little late so I was standing the small doorway area waiting for them. When I saw a man (one of the owners, I think) approach me, I figured he was going to ask me to wait outside since I had been standing there a while. But instead invited me in and offered me a soda in the bar area while I waited. It was such a kind gesture and I was especially appreciative given how chilly it was outside. At first I was a bit skeptical. The menu was robust but the prices seemed a little higher than typical indian cuisine. I am pleased to report back to my fellow yelpers that the prices were warranted! Beautiful restaurant with tons of seating, very friendly staff, and as mentioned above, a very very extensive menu. -Cheese Masala Dosa: 5/5, being that I'm used to paying around $11-$13 for a dosa in hicksville I was a little taken back to see $25-$30 here BUT they were massive (picture included) and stuffed. Well worth the price in my opinion. The Sambar was pretty weak if I'm being honest. Maybe a 1.5/5, just very watered down but the chutneys were delicious. -Butter Chicken: 4/5, very good and a nice portion. The chicken was a bit dry but overall the dish was delicious. I recommend ordering a side of rice since it does not come with it. Overall I can say I was pretty impressed with our dining experience here. It was a beautiful restaurant with great service and food. My only gripe is that for the price you're paying on many entrees a side of rice or naan should be included. Now onto the food, for appetizers we went with vegetables samosa and lamb Samos which were both great. This restaurant is is good but I will say it's not your traditional Indians restaurant. They serve item to cater to everyone which is great but definitely through a curve ball to my overall experience. A Fan Since: June 2022 Looking for something that seamlessly combines culinary and aesthetic elegance? Look no further than Curry Club at SāGhar in Port Jefferson, NY! My first few experiences here involved ordering take-out. The food was perfectly packed up and had kept nicely warm by the time it was delivered. I was impressed with the extensive menu, which features vegetarian, seafood, and Halal-certified meat options galore! More recently, I had the opportunity to dine in-house. I was blown away at how gorgeous the restaurant was. It is aesthetically pleasing -- both indoors and outdoors. Additionally, it is situated right on the gorgeous Port Jefferson Harbor. Curry Club at SāGhar is conveniently located across the street from the ferry, other local attractions, shops, and Theatre Three, and contains stunning artwork and a fantastic upstairs deck overlooking the Harbor. There is even live music sometimes at the restaurant! I will discuss, and recommend to you, my favorite dishes from here. Before doing so -- for some background -- I would like to disclose that I am largely vegetarian and I enjoy spicy foods. I appreciate that there is a bit of a fusion between different Indian cuisines here. I've not previously been able to find all my top favorite Indian dishes at one singular restaurant... until now! In particular, I love dosas (primarily from South India), Vegetable Vindalu/Vindaloo (primarily from West India/Goa), and Chili Gobi. If their menu wasn't already extensive/impressive enough, there is even a section, entitled "Indian Fusion", that's almost an Indian-American-UK-Italian fusion (for lack of better descriptors). Another great aspect of Curry Club is that it offers a separate, set brunch menu on the weekends (from noon -- 4pm), that differs from their regular menu. There are also pre-fixed and catering options available, upon speaking in advance with the restaurant. As always with my reviews, I advise speaking with the restaurant staff for more details first (as well as to voice any potential dietary/spice restrictions/concerns), prior to ordering the dishes I recommend here in this review. The waiters and owners here are very approachable, helpful, and hospitable. :) The following dishes are ones that I enjoy sharing (a-la-family-style), with 2-4 people. Appetizers: - Chili Gobi = While I have seen this called "Cauliflower/Gobi Manchurian at other establishments, and while it differs from this restaurant's own version on "Vegetable Manchurian", this is hands-down the best Chili Gobi I've ever had the privilege of being able to try. It is so savory, is coated in a delectable batter and thickened spicy sauce, and has a great texture! These are a high quality, vegetarian-friendly alternative to spicy wings. They're an absolute treat! Their "Vegetable Manchurian" is quite delicious as well. However, my personal favorite is the Chili Gobi here. :) - Vegetable Samosas = These are fabulously cooked and savory, and not greasy from being fried. I recommend asking for a chutney to dip it in! - Muligatawny Soup = Very fragrant and delicious -- perfect on a cold day!) Mains: - Kiran's Palak Masala Dosa & Kulwant's Favorite Mysore Masala Dosa = They complement each other nicely, and are even more flavorful and amazing when dipped into the accompanying coconut chutney and sambar! - Vegetable Vindalu = This is one of the spiciest (and best!) dishes on the menu! **It's the only one of these dishes I order just a tad under normal spice level (a "4/4.5 out of 5 spice level", as I like to say). I appreciate their willingness to make this dish just a touch less spicy for me, without compromising the flavor. This is by far the best vegetable vindalu I've ever had the fortune of eating. It's well-seasoned, contains an incredible spice profile, and really leaves you wanting more! Also, my husband can attest that the chicken vindalu is swell as well! :D Sides: Rice = Please order some, as not every main dish (such as the vegetable vindalu) comes with it. It's very lovely and is perfect to combine with the various other dishes recommended here. Chili Cheese Naan = It's fantastic on its own and when paired with other dishes! Dessert: - Gulab Jamum (or Jamun) = It's served hot and has aromatic rose & cardamom spices! There is such an extensive array of incredible dishes offered at The Curry Club at SāGhar, that it can be hard to choose just one! This is precisely why I recommend sharing a few dishes with a small group (in order to experience more of what the restaurant has to offer). With its third decade of being in business approaching soon, The Curry Club at SāGhar has become quite the integral part of Long Island cuisine! :) Thank you very much to the very caring and professional owners and staff of Curry Club at SāGhar for sharing your passion and vision for Indian cuisine and culture with us -- both here, on Long Island, and in the world at large! :) With appreciation, Avery B. :) More...
