People are quick to jump online to report that they are unhappy with or disappointed in products or services every day. It is not quite as often that we take the time to pour on the compliments or give the highest possible ratings to the people who deserve it the most.
My daughter, Lila, recently had the opportunity to be photographed by an amazing and talented photographer named Ian Cowpar (of Saxon Cross photography). Aside from the fact that he has photographed both of my girls before and we have become friends, I feel that if I do not proclaim from the mountain tops that he is EXCEPTIONAL at his craft; I would be doing others a great disservice.
I will start with the obvious. Not many people enjoy being photographed. Yes, some do not mind, but generally speaking, most of us are not ready to hop in front of the lens without a bit of anxiety. Ian has a way of working with his subjects that is so disarming and light. He is inviting in nature and actually encourages the subject to actively participate in the shots, looking at some of them as the shoot takes place. It is so obvious that he wants his clients to be completely relaxed and trust him and one would have a difficult time being nervous or anxious due to the way he communicates. He is funny and light yet serious about his craft and precise in his techniques. It was amazing how he captured so many perfect shots without many retakes if any. That is talent. Anyone can press a button, but Ian is watching the set/scene, the natural lighting, the shadows and everything in between. All of this without being the least bit distracted. It would actually be impossible to "get lucky" with that many superior photos and therefore it is more than just our opinion that he is so good (Nobody is that lucky!)
He is super-excited, but not hyper. He is swift,but not rushed and his timing is meticulous. Ian is like a one-man band with his "trunk full of goodies". He momentarily ducked into his car emerging with a bright green "pop-tent" so that Lila could change outfits right there on the beach, privately. When she was able to quickly change-she instantly had a brand new look without missing the beautiful sunset. He has an arsenal of lenses and light defusing equipment close by at all time and he switches back and forth producing multiple versions of shots with different effects using shadows, natural light and flashes. He makes it look way-too-easy! Ian's pricing is affordable and fair and he delivers MUCH MORE than what you pay for. He is dependable, prompt, energetic, funny and cares about his craft immensely. The turn-around time was nuts-we were looking at some of the finished work within hours. The excitement we felt through his emails showing us the finished photos would fool most into thinking that he was talking about photos of his own child. I would HIGHLY recommend that you book a session with this GEM of a guy and photographer. You simply cannot go wrong with Ian and Saxon Cross Photography. I have been fortunate to see the work of dozens of his clients and he ALWAYS comes through on top. Everyone is happy and raving about him and his work. We will all need to hire a photographer at some point in our lives...parties, weddings, baptisms, school/senior photos, and family reunions...but once you experience Ian's talents-believe me, you will find more reasons to book a session with him! My husband and I have been lucky to have him work with both of our girls and look forward to our upcoming family-photo which he just put on his books!

Ian was so great to come to my house to take some professional pics. He is extremely knowledgeable about the lighting and how to pose. But, more importantly, he has a knack for getting the right shot on the right background. We highly recommend Saxon Cross. Ian was professional, talented, flexible and fairly priced in deliverying great photos for my daughters Senior pictures at our site of choice, Maudsley Park, Newburyport, MA.
Although he offered to shoot at multiple locations, we had more than enough options at Maudsley. We have lived about 2 miles from Maudsley Park for 18 years and visited often. However, Ian found many beautiful spots ideal for unique photos we had not even known existed. Ian spent much more time than we had expected in finding one spot ofter another and creating unique and beautiful photos. Although he clearly has an eye for great shots, he was more than happy to add shots we requested throughout the session. Within hours of the photo shoot, Ian provided us with several edited photos via the Saxon Cross site. The high quality/high resolution photos were easy to download. Ian's business model of charging a flat fee for photo sessions and than offer the files to use as we wish was exactly what we were looking for. Additionally, he recommended what we expect will be a high quality inexpesive lab to order prints directly on our own.
We are very pleased to have booked Ian and will look forward to an additional session we have booked with him for our family photo.
If you are looking for a flexible, talented, fair priced option for professional photos we highly recommend Saxon Cross Photography.

My wife hired Saxon Cross Photography for my daughter’s senior pictures because she was impressed with the portfolio online and the pricing structure was simple. But our expectations were definitely exceeded! We were very pleased with the entire process and the end result! Ian was very flexible in working with us to schedule a time to shoot, as my daughters schedule is so busy. We had to reschedule twice because of the rain. He was very easy to work with and very responsive to our emails. His suggestion of Maudslay State Park was an excellent location. My daughter was very comfortable during the photo session. Having never met most of the people on the other side of his lens, I feel like Ian has captured the person's inner spirit that is then shared with others - and it's so beautiful to see this artistry in his pictures. It has taken me some time to write this review, mainly because I didn't want to just post a review that said simply "Ian was a great photographer, I recommend him. "Ian was much more than that. The entire Senior Picture experience for our daughter was above and beyond what we expected. From taking the time to meet with us and getting to know Destiny before the shoot, to being patient with Destiny on picture day when she was a bit nervous. Ian has a way of making you feel comfortable in front of the camera, stopping to show you some of the shots he took along the way. By the end of the shoot Destiny felt confident and fierce. It was what she called "the best day ever". And it didn't end there, the pictures were spectacular, they captured the absolute best of Destiny! The difference between running a business for profit and making a living doing what gives you absolute Joy is unmistakably evident in the works of both Ian Cowpar and Karen Ahern Clemenzi. Having your child or family photographed is such a personal and intimate endeavor. The possible outcomes can only fall into two categories:1. Mere reflections of an existence, with or without beauty.
