Wonderful little restaurant on the west side of highlands. The remodel of an old Victorian(?) House is very nice. They have a good size waiting room off the side of the bar which is great cause they'll go on a wait each weekend and don't take reservations. The list of mimosas menu is fun and modern, with both traditional and funky/experimental options. Everything my group got was great. I personally got the Smoked Mushroom Mac with bacon and it was delicious. Yet I do feel the portion size seem smaller than expected for $15 as I left still hungry. More...

This place is hands down one of the best breakfast spots around. Drinks - they have good quality coffee drinks AND the classic brunch favorites. The variety of mimosas and bloody mary’s pretty much ensures you will find something you like. The food is great as well. I highly recommend the jalapeño goat cheese grits and the meal with fried egg and buffalo hash around breakfast. The specialty mac n cheeses are really good for lunch. Haven’t had anything I didn’t like. If you have a sweet tooth, check out the milkshakes too! More...

Loved this place at the last location too. The bloody marys are amazing and I love the bloody mary sampler where you can taste a few of them. Love the food every time! It was weird that the whole time we waited for our table there was many seats at the bar available -- when it finally came to seat us we ended up at the bar seats that were empty our entire 30 minute minute. Why could they not seat these all the time to keep people moving through the wait list instead of leaving these seats empty the whole time? More...

Excellent service here, and they were quite busy when we arrived. The hand crafted beverages were great and they made my London Fog just the way I like it. Grits were quite watery, but other than that the food was delicious. Would love to come back again and dine outside in the beautiful garden! More...

Do yourself a flavor favor and start off with a Bloody Mary or Mariah or one of any of the delicious bloody drinks they have to offer. Definitely get the meatballs and a slider and than al cart some collard greens. After that just prepare for a religious experience because God Lives in their food. I’m not a religious person but I’ll be sure to say Grace next time because I am beyond grateful for this food! More...

Extremely lovely. If you find yourself in Chattanoog, Tenneessee go to Aretha Frankensteins. The aesthetic is completely different but the homemade quality of the food/wait time/neighborhood feel is EXACTLY the same, its eerie. From MarvinSeveral of us met for lunch today (10/14/19) at the Sassafras on West 32nd Avenue. Our reception was warm and friendly, and the wait time was reasonable. At our request, we were seated in an area with exceptionally comfortable chairs and delightfully decorated surroundings. The menu is very unique and creative, but the wait staff was more than willing to describe each of the items. If you want to impress a friend or an out-of-town visitor, take them to the Sassafras for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. It’s worth it!And thanks to Julia for running such a friendly an excellent operation! More...

BEST BACON WRAPPED SHRIMP I'VE EVER EATEN. Sorry for yelling, I'm just excited. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp and pickled jalapeño goat cheese grits, and they were ultra delicious. My co-diner had the maque choux grits, which were a fresh and light version of the same (minus the shrimp). Paired with some super delicious coffee, I have whatever the opposite of complaints are about this place. Our server alex was super helpful. I overheard him being super considerate with a group that had lots of dietary preferences/allergies- excellent service. More...

We arrived about an hour after they opened but there wasn't a wait. The gardens make it such a welcoming ambiance and the decor is interesting. I think eclectic is an acquired taste. We started with coffee and lavender lemonade. My, oh my, oh my. The smells eminating from the kitchen will entice you toorder one of everything.First up for us ... deviled dill eggs. DELISH! Along with a fried green tomato slider. I want both of those on the menu for my last meal.Hubby had the American breakfast and I tried some a la cart items to have with our starters. Their homemade sausage is divine, but neither of us were blown away by their fried mashed potatoes ... their version of hashbrowns?Whatever you do, save room for beignets. It has a cute little area of 2 tops overlooking 32nd and the historic Highlands Methodist Church... the menu is still filled with a lot of Cajun Classics with their own Sassafras Twist. Let's just start off by saying if I could give this place 6 stars, I would! My husband & I came here for the first time yesterday. Everything was absolutely perfect - the service, the environment, & most importantly the food. We sat outside on a super small, secluded patio. It was super peaceful. The restaurant is inside an old (maybe victorian style?) home, it's just adorable & perfect. We started off with the deviled eggs, a bloody mary, & a cherry lemon drop. All of it was delicious. I ordered a breakfast po' boy & my husband ordered a cajun benedict. Food was hot, it had a lot of flavour, & I could tell the ingredients were fresh. The arugula that was on our deviled eggs app & in my sandwich smelled so strong (in a good way)! Our server was polite & attentive. We had a great experience & can't wait to come back. More...

This restaurant is absolutely OUTSTANDING. Again, OUTSTANDING. We have lived in the area for two years and never stumbled across it, but from now on, it’s going to be a weekly Saturday or Sunday breakfast spot for sure. Please go here. First, it’s absolutely adorable. The Victorian style home turned into a restaurant is beyond charming. The inside is decorated so beautifully you might want to eat inside, but the patio is even better. It’s so beautiful and green and feels like you are eating in a beautiful old worldly garden. It’s really gorgeous. Secondly, the food is spectacular. The Cajun Eggs Benedict absolutely delighted my husband, who has been missing his Cajun style food since moving to Denver. His poached eggs on top of crawfish hash was cooked perfectly, I haven’t seen him so happy with Cajun style breakfast in a long time. I had the breakfast Mac and Cheese, and I can’t think of a better thing I’ve eaten recently. The poached egg was so perfect and runny over the noodles and cheese and bacon and sausage. It was so ridiculously delicious. This restaurant is a fusion of old world beauty, charm, and ridiculously delicious food. I cannot recommend it more. I hope the owner(s) and staff have the best success with this because we need more places like this in the world. Good luck and you have customers for life.My husband lit just asked me if we can go back tomorrow and I’m not arguing. More...
