We went as a large group for their Thursday dosa/biryani buffet.  They have an incredible selection.  The free mango lassi and Coronas were a welcome surprise.  I will say that the line can get a bit long so go a little early and also know that its a little spicer than most Indian buffets.  The other ding is that they get really busy so our plates weren't cleared regularly and they couldn't make indian coffee which most of the folks were really looking forward to prior to visiting.  All in all a very pleasurable visit. Sankranti is one of my most favorite restaurants in Bay area. This restaurant is my go to place in the Bay Area !!! Sridhar was a nice gentleman who suggested to go for the Gongura Paneer Biryani and it was the best food that I had in the US. I live about 100 miles south of SFO and this Gongura Paneer Biryani is the reason for my future visits to SFO !!! Must try if you like spicy food and the Gongura is fresh and makes me feel I'm eating Andhra Gongura food. Variety of indian food is plenty, feels very authentic via the clientele.  I can't be specific since the most I can name is usually butter chicken or chicken tikka masala.  I forget but they didnt have both, they had one during the dinner we ate.  The other non meat items have too much of a kick for me.  The waiters are quick to clean up your dishes during our buffet.I would say the taste is definitely on the spicy side for me.  Flavors seemed good but i had to drench the spice off with Mango lassi and even then the spice was sticking.If I can handle spicy better I would come back for more.I could tell there was probably 2 other events going on since this restaurant from the outside looks like it took up the whole plaza, but in reality 2 sides are party event spaces and the middle is the actual restaurant. This venue is a surprisingly large hole-in-the-wall that's all too easy to drive past, as it's in one of many nondescript C- or D-list strip malls here in Sunnyvale. But once you walk in you'll see a main dining room up front and you might also notice a much larger function room to the left.If the clientele is any indication - it was 80-90% South Asian - the food here is indeed authentic. Their lunchtime buffets are really popular and have at least two dozen entrees to choose from, if I remember correctly. As someone who can't stand spicy food, I found everything to mild and enjoyable, especially the butter chicken and gulab jamun. Everything's presented in a basic, no-frills sort of way, but the food more than speaks for itself. For a buffet, the pricing and value ($14.99 if I remember correctly) weren't bad. Just got back from lunch.Sankranti is one of my most favorite restaurants. Mr. Sridhar is one of the best restaurant mangers I ever met. I eat out every day for lunch. This place is amazing. I haven't been to a better buffet style restaurant. The constantly changing menu adds a bit of variety and makes it so you never have the chance to get tired of eating the same thing. At this point I haven't tried a single dish that I didn't love, and I'm a picky eater. The people that host are also fantastic. Sridhar is a great host and is very accommodating and helpful when it comes to explaining a dish. He is always ready to answer any questions or grab another beer for you too! Came for ala carte dinner. Menu included regular standards but also some unusual fish dishes. Server Sridhar gave us good ordering advice and I went with the non veg limited Thali. He said that if i found it was not enough food, i could upgrade after the food came to the unlimited Thali. It was enough for me, but if you are ready hungry, the unlimited is a good option. Came for dinner on a Wednesday night. Nice mixed crowd. Our server Sridhar suggestion was to try the Thalis (There's a Veg and Non-Veg option) for $10. 99 single plate or $12.99 for all you can eat. Everything was super flavorful and the spice was just enough! (You gotta try their butter chicken!) Tried this place for the first time and liked some of their dishes and found some of their dishes just average and expensive. Bhatti is murgh was just about average however was priced a little expensive than other Indian restaurants we've been too for similar portion size. Sankranti is in fact on our most favorite place to eat nowadays for South Indian food. The delicacies have always maintained its flavor. My wife loves going here for Thali and gongura pappu and this is one place where we feel we walk into a home rather than a restaurant for the hospitality they show. We were there yesterday against and Sridhar always with a smile and one of the most polite people who take care of the customers and taking orders with so much care and humbleness is unmatched. The owner Srinivas is very welcoming always. The rest of the staff are also so happy and we love to have our food here at every opportunity possible.
