Being raised in San Mateo my family used another "name" florist all the time growing up for all our parties and the last time for my wedding years ago.  I've long since moved and drove by San Mateo Florist as we were in need of lots of flower arrangements for a funeral.  They have an easy to navigate online site, which is what I eventually used.  I ordered everything a week in advance and gave pretty thorough instructions- the types of bouquets and arrangements, the color schemes, time of delivery, flowers to be used, and the location of event. Two days before the event, SMF (Bruce, their floral designer) called to double check on the order and called to let me know that some of their stargazers in white were not yet open, but they could be replaced with another color, and we discussed color choices.  We also followed up with other details.  The arrangements that arrived were large, absolutely stunning, and very high quality.  I absolutely recommend for a Peninsula choice. We went to a nearby restaurant and decided to take a look on our way back to the car. Although we weren't currently looking to buy anything, we were greeted by a very nice man who was happy to answer our questions regarding how to care for the various plants we currently have at home. It was obvious that the man helping us (owner?) was knowledgable and genuinely cared about the flowers and other plants in the store (note: these plants are mostly for indoors). We eventually decided to buy something. Although there was a slight misunderstanding regarding the price (our fault), he quickly said not to worry about it. I am not particularly versed in flowers and my first time buying a bouquet from a florist shop, and Sarah made it a very pleasant experience. She knew exactly what I was looking for my bouquet by just describing the color scheme and some focus flowers I wanted for the bouquet. Outstanding arrangements and phenomenal customer service.  My husband has been kind enough to order me a number of arrangements from San Mateo Florist & Gifts over the last few years and they are always of the highest quality.  I was a bit disappointed with one that came last week and so I called to share how I felt.  They listened to my issues and were unbelievably kind and gracious when we spoke.  They then followed it up with a spectacular new arrangement today which was unnecessary but so very appreciated.  If you want gold star service and fabulous flowers, call San Mateo Florist & Gifts.  You will not be disappointed! I showed up in their store 4 days before my wedding, asking if they could do some flowers for me.  I walked in, was greeted quickly by Sergio who was fantastic. He showed me the refrigerator of stunning flowers.  Then he ushered me to Ed and we were on our way ordering flowers.  He had a program on the computer and we went through what we wanted.  I sent him some emailed photos that night of the ideas of what I wanted.  I paid and left within about 30-45 mins.  They were absolutely fantastic and pleasant to deal with...they've been in business over 30 years and they know how to do this!  When I arrived at the venue, the flowers were all set up in the room, the bouquets and boutonnieres were ready and I kid you not, I thought I was going to faint with how beautiful everything turned out.  The flowers also smelled absolutely fantastic.  I never want to forget the beautiful visual and scent memory!  We were married outside at Moss Beach Distillery in Moss Beach and had the reception upstairs, which was fantastic.  A couple of days later, we returned the rented centerpiece holders (they gave them to us free) which were absolutely beautiful.  There were so many gorgeous flowers in every arrangement!  The flower petals for the flower girl were perfect.  They are going to be my go-to florist from now on... I came here around 3:30 on Mother's Day in search of a quick and pretty bouquet for my stepmom. I parked in the back and came through the back entrance. One of the employees (I assume he was the owner) immediately greeted me with a hello.I headed toward the refrigerated section (is that the proper term?) to browse the flowers as I could immediately tell that the pre-packed and -prepped bouquets were pricey (I saw some upwards of $75). The same employee came in to see if I needed any help and I asked him some questions. Told him I was thinking of tulips and he said a bundle of 10 was $20 and I could mix-and-match colors. I was splitting the price with my sister so to us 10 bucks each was a steal. I chose red and pink tulips and he prepared the bundle. He added some extra flora to liven up the bouquet and it was seriously gorgeous! He did it so quickly and beautifully.He rang me up and I was on my way. San Mateo Florist was highly recommended to me, by my Sales Coordinator Arthur at the Double Tree Hotel in Brisbane. I had a post wedding function and was in need for a Large Tropical center piece and lei's.  Well I was so amazed!!  I did everything over the phone I had no time to go to the store. I explained what I needed and what if was for.. and was told by the manager  "No Problem, we will put a beautiful  arrangement together and yes we can do your lei. you will see".. As a returning costumer I am always impressed with their floral selection. Last week I purchased a dozen red roses for my wife. For some reason the roses started to wilt four days later. After speaking with edik about the roses, without hesitation he stated that he would have a dozen red roses sent out and delivered immediately. Ed is a saint,  he went above and beyond to ensure I would be happy with the arrangement I ordered.  He stayed in his shop after hours and even volunteered to send me a photo of the arrangement before delivering it.  I asked if he could make some adjustments, and he did so happily.  San Mateo Florist definitely provided some of the best customer service I have experienced in awhile. I work for a small office in San Mateo and my employer has been using the San Mateo florist for several years. Recently I was asked to arrange a delivery to one of our clients who is staying at Stanford Hospital. My first inclination was to order off one of those big name sites that deliver flowers in a box, however my employer asked that I call and see if San Mateo Florist would deliver. I'm so glad I did! The man on the phone was very helpful and confirmed that they do deliver to Stanford Hospital. He was wonderful on the phone and I quickly ordered the flowers. I'm sure the client will enjoy them and I know the quality will be great, because it's always the best when we order from the San Mateo Florist. Been needing to finish this review and give San Mateo Florist their credit.Ed, i dont know you. i dont know what you look like. We only spoke on the phone once. i cold called based on Yelp reviews and asked for a peonies flower set based on the website and all he said was that he would personally take care of it for me and make sure that he does something nice.Well, he delivered...big time! 8 peonies (not in season) and 4 hydrangeas on a heavy square flower glass vase. Definitely looked like it was a well taken cared of arrangement. I definitely know where to go for my floral needs in the Peninsula from now on. More...

I needed a simple Christmas gift for my boss and his wife.  I don't enjoy buying gifts because I never know what to get.  A co-worker suggested flowers, and my GPS pointed me to San Mateo Florist.  What a find!  Ed recommended an orchid arrangement that was very well received.  The recipients were pleasantly surprised when the gift was delivered to their home.  Classy.  Ed took care of everything, even sending me an email when the flowers were delivered.  Ed appreciates your business, and he goes the extra mile to make sure you're happy. San Mateo Florist did the flowers for my wedding and they turned out beautifully!I met with Ed twice to plan for the wedding flowers.  During the first meeting we spoke in general about the venue, wedding party, and flower needs with an initial estimate.  During the second meeting I brought photo examples (which he suggested) and discussed specific flower arrangements for a detailed estimate.  After the meetings with Ed I had a few last minute changes that I emailed him, which he responded to very quickly.  He provided both email and hard copy (by mail) invoices for each change (super helpful!).  I was also able to charge the difference over the phone, saving me another visit to the store during a busy wedding week.On the wedding day everything went very smoothly and looked even better than I imagined.  I couldn't be happier with the service and kindness Ed showed during every step in the process. I said I would consider SM Florist for future occasions and I indeed held true to my word.My fiancée and I hired Ed and his team for our wedding earlier this month and they came through with flying colors. Their prices were reasonable and the flowers looked amazing. We ordered two spray baskets for the ceremony, 2 bouquets and a number of corsages and boutonnières for family members. San Mateo did an amazing job for our July wedding!  Everyone at San Mateo Florist was beyond nice.  Ed- the owner had crated the bouquet I dreamed about, and the bridesmaids bouquets couldn't have looked better!  And he did it all from a picture I found online, which I was a big nervous about at first, but after seeing them the day of the wedding it was exactly what I had hoped for!  Ed was also gracious enough to allow me to add 4 pomander balls and petals for the aisle to my order the week of the wedding!  Along with adding those to my order he also allowed me to barrow 4 large vases free of charge, as long as I returned them to the shop after the wedding.  That was a huge stress reliever, and I was beyond thankful because I was so worries the aisle was going to look so plain.  Instead it looked amazing!Cost wise, i was happy with their prices.  I found other places to be way more expensive, and their delivery charge was a flat rate which was clutch since we got married in Campbell.Huge thanks again to San Mateo Florist for making our wedding day so special and beautiful! I am providing feedback on behalf Wild Nights ... we provide entertainment, DJ/MC services for all types of events, specializing in weddings. We see all types of venues and vendors.  The last wedding we did, we took pictures of the flowers ... they were phenomenal.  Huh?  A DJ taking pictures of the flowers.  Yes, we wanted to be sure to get florist's name so we could refer our clients to San Mateo Florists. Besides the flowers being beautiful, they were done setting up on time.  We've had to delay ceremony and grand entrances because florists weren't done ... but San Mateo Florists performed!  No idea what they charge compared to others.   We have received nothing but positive feedback from our wedding clients that we've referred to them.  Good choice! I cannot express just HOW impressed and satisfied I am with San Mateo Florist!I recently got married, and Edik has been nothing but amazing, to say the least! There really aren't enough kind words to tell you how professional (and personable!) this man is!He was very honest from the beginning, and totally worked within our budget.  Everything from the corsages, to the gift table, the cake and the cake table, the head table, the church and the centerpieces , etc.. were absolutely beautiful, and WAY more than what we expected for the price.Edik was the ONLY (and I repeat ONLY) vendor my fiance and I could count on 110%. He never missed, canceled, or rescheduled any appointments, everything was always on-time, ready, and exactly what I asked for and pictured.  He was very communicative, and even checked in with us! (as opposed to other vendors where you have to track them down...)And to give you a little insight...our wedding was on New Year's Day-yep, NATIONAL holiday.  Edik, himself, hand delivered flowers to the church, the hotel, and my house, and he wasn't on-time, he was EARLY! For the extra 5 bucks over a Safeway bouquet, San Mateo Florist was definitely worth the extra money for the quality. They have a wide variety of flowers and I was on the hunt for any purple flowers because the girlfriend loves purple. They had 4 or 5 different kinds. The representative asked what my budget was, he pulled out a damn good amount of purple buds, wrapped them up and I was on my way. We worked with Ed months prior to plan for our wedding day.  We had a simple order of bouquets, corsages/boutonnieres and spray baskets.  I showed him pictures of what I wanted and he said "we can do that".  We had 3 meetings and my fiance and I were very confident in Ed's work.  The day of, there was a delivery mix-up and some arrangements when to the wrong place.  I was a little disappointed but couldn't do much since I was about to walk down the aisle.  The learning is that mistakes happen but it's how one responds to it.  Ed was very apologetic and immediately gave us a respectable credit without us asking.  He did not give us excuses but dealt with the issue very professionally.  I'm sure this was a rarity but it happened and everything was settled.  The flowers were beautiful and exactly what I had pictured.
