A friend of mine brought me lunch today from San Marcos. I ordered the carne asada taco platter. It was delicious. The tacos were bigger than what I was anticipating, but their onion and cilantro combo on top of the asada was perfect. I will say the tomatillo sauce was spicy for me but I am weak when it comes to sauce. The rice was excellent, I didn't care for the beans they were a little on the runny side for me. Overall though a great take out experience, the food was warm even after the drive over. Solid 4 stars, I had the molcajete meat trio w/chorizo. It was spicy and very tasty. The beans were fresh but the rice was just ok. Granted, I'm not really a rice eater. I also had the coconut shrimp as an appetizer and they were fresh and perfectly cooked. The service was very good too, I was never left with an empty cup. They also give you warm chips/salsa/refried beans while sitting. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a nice Mexican restaurant while visiting Tahoe or Carson city. More...

We have been coming here for years. Our number one place for Mexican in Carson City. Not sure what has happened but our last two visits have not been good. Service has been slow and disorganized... forgot our drinks last time and this time forgot all the sides for the fajitas. And it takes forever to get waitstaff attention. The bean and cheese burrito was filled with unmelted cheese and barely any beans. Plus it wasn't even refried beans. The fajitas had no taste except for bad oil and lots of garlic. There was new waitstaff and cooks...  I hope service and the food goes back to the way it was otherwise we will be finding a new Mexican restaurant to go to in Carson City. San Marco's Grill is my goto for superior Mexican food in Carson City.  It is pricey, so I sometimes go to other places, but Sam Marcos had never disappointed me. I usually get the Santa Fe chicken enchilada's, which play to my New Mexican background. Not exactly as I would expect them in Santa Fe, but close enough.  I really like their chips and salsa and beans, too.I can alsoattest that they have great asada, quality seafood specials and fabulous fajitas.Their Margarita selection is a little intimidating at first, but I've ventured a bit, and have enjoyed all of them except for 1, that my husband liked better than his, so we traded and we were both happy. Wow! As someone who has been known to eat Mexican food 5-6 times/week, I'm willing to go on record and say that this spot is SUPER legit! Amazing attention to detail with a menu that covers all the basic traditional dishes you'd ever want (and well!) while offering a bunch of most upscale options if you're in that kinda mood. I prefer quality over quantity that's why I come here!!! I'll admit their service is very slow it's so worth it!!!  If you want quality time and conversations this is the place for your group to come! The food is fresh! They have a lot more to offer than most mexican restaurants and the chef is constantly creating and trying new dishes that are amazing. Staff is super nice also! Tried this place for lunch. I ordered the Salsa Verde special which is pork in a tomatillo sauce. It was generous helping in a bowl served along side rice and beans, with four tortillas of your choosing. The flavors were delicious and authentic, and the meat was tender. My wife had carnitas (pork) also served with rice and beans. She's a flower tortilla person. Her dish was also very good and the meat was tender. It was busy yet the wait staff was very attentive. The food is very authentic, well done home cooked flavors, not to be confused with a Rick Baylee's quality restaurant, to which I've had the good fortune to visit several times while in Chicago. Finally a Mexican restaurant that serves a fabulous margarita (best I have had since moving here from San Diego a year ago) and quality food.  The menu is VERY extensive and uber varied.  My party ordered the loaded enchiladas, fish tacos, and chimichanga.  Next time (and there will be a next time) I will try the fajitas.  Your dining experience starts with salsa(which is not too hot like some) and a whole bean dip with chips which they replenish at no extra charge.  All COVID 19 practices were met.  Service was both helpful and friendly.  Prices are reasonable.  So many things I want to try . I was initially put off from a burrito I ordered. Not that it was bad, but it was very plain. I left with mixed thoughts. I came back a second time and ordered the fajitas which blew me out of the water ! Holy smokes were they amazing. I've gone back a few times now and ordered the fajitas and have had trouble finding another place that cooks them up as good!
