I had the Cajun Jambalaya and it was very good.Lots of seafood and sausage on a bed of rice and beans....I also asked for a side of bread and the bread was also great. freash with a chewy crust....and wrapped it up with the brownie sundae dish that was just the right size...not to much but satisfying to my sweet tooth...Add great service and terrific Music made for a great meal after a day of doing the tourist thing . My husband and I held our rehearsal dinner here about a month ago. The food was amazing! Everyone was blown away by how good the food and drinks were and said that we could have just had our wedding there that night. For our menu, we selected the teriyaki salmon, roasted chicken, and vegetable risotto. Guests commented that the salmon was some of the best they ever had. The music selection is great and the restaurant is funky and cute. The upstairs event space is perfect for hosting larger parties. The food is so delicious here. The appetizers I had the other night were the garlic & goat cheese and the little neck clams. I'm already craving them again, that's how good they were. The jambalaya was quite delicious as well. The kale Caesar salad is my favorite as well. The food is overall fantastic and the service is great. I also had this spicy habenero drink and of you're into super spicy then this is for you. It was just something else. I love spicy so this would be my drink of choice if I lived closer. More...

WOW, it is truly a 5 star restaurant.  First off the patio was great, nice seating in an outdoor venue on a prefect night.  Service was outstanding never waited for anything. Then the food, I ordered the chicken, the others, steak and poi.  All of it was fantastic.  We had to remind our selves to slow down and dine not eat.  All around a 5 star evening.  When in Newport go to Salvation Cafe you won't be disappointed. I have been here twice and both times, I left full from the food and haze of great memories.  Both times were with large parties and everyone's food came out on time and cooked correctly.  I have tried their praised short burger or something and their pad thai which was really good.  Great location in Newport away from Thames so you should be able to get seated easily but they also have a great outdoor bar and some heaters incase it gets chilly at night.  Would recommend it to anyone trying to have a dinner with friends and family without having to be too formal. We were in Newport for a girls' weekend, and managed to get a table here on a holiday weekend without a reservation. We were seated quickly in a booth in the front of the restaurant. The atmosphere is fun, colorful, and quirky, and the menu felt very eclectic.  We had a hard time deciding what to order because everything sounded delicious. Between the four of us, we shared the kale pesto flatbread, cauliflower hummus, goat cheese mezze platter, fried calamari, tofu Pad Thai, and teriyaki salmon. YUMMMM! Each dish was more delicious than the next. The flavors were fresh and creative, with high quality ingredients. We practically ate in silence because everything tasted so good. For dessert we shared the peanut butter blondie, which disappeared pretty quickly.  Sue, the owner, was our server and was sweet as could be. We would definitely come back here and recommend to others; it seemed like the menu had something for everyone, and it was fun to share so many dishes. Went there on a Friday night around 7:30 and was able to get 2 seats at the bar. You must go here. Great drinks and delicious food. Had the oysters and calamari for appetizers. Well prepared and fresh. Had their Pad Thai, which they are known for, and it did not disappoint. We had a whole other meal of it the next day! Amazing!  The decor pops and the food is better. The fish is always perfectly cooked (my wife loves the salmon but when the daily special is sword fish I highly recommend! It melts in your mouth. Transcendental.) Portions are sometimes kind of small unless you go with the pad Thai, which they give you a mountain of! Pork belly is my favorite, especially when they do it nice and crispy.  Take your lady on a date here folks and it will impress.  Also check it out in the summer when they have a second bar out back and some beach type outdoor seating, it's a great time! AMAZZZZZZZING! I had the tempe curry and my boyfriend had the Filet mignon. I cannot say enough. Everytime I am in Newport I head straight here to try their latest creations, or for their classics like the pad thai. Also had the coconut mojito which was a little sweet for me but my boyfriend absolutely loved it. I have been here so many times that I knew it was time to leave them a good review since they have never ever disappointed. Food is amazing. Oh yeh we started with the littlenecks, which were out of this world and I recommend as top littlenecks in rhode island. I have tried a lot of places and specialty seafood joints and these are the best I have ever tasted. tons of different flavors and just the right spice and dipping. YUMMMMY. I can't wait to go back and I think i will try to hit these guys one more time before this vacation end. Thank you Salvation for being the best food, and coolest place in town. If you are from out of town and looking for a place to try and escape the touristy scene. This is it. They have been feng shui since as long as I can remember. Wish we had known about this place before we had a disappointing dinner elsewhere. We ended up here for drinks after dinner just by happenstance. We were planning to go somewhere nearby but it was packed and I just happened to see "Tiki Bar" written on the chalkboard almost hidden next to the door. My husband didn't want to go in because all he saw was a DJ and a nearly empty bar in the front. I said we should just go see what the tiki bar was like and I'm glad we did! Great back patio bar area, bigger and nicer than the sidewalk al fresco dining everyone defaults to on Broadway. Billy the bartender was great, the perfect New England gentleman with a casual twist. As a marketing professional, I think this place is missing the mark in that it doesn't immediately draw visitors in by promoting the outdoor area I back and by sending a strange vibe with the DJ playing to an empty bar in front. It would be easy enough to move the sign from next to the front door to the sidewalk and simplify it to say " large outdoor patio and bar in back". Give this place a try tourists! More...

we went to salvation cafe for a bridal shower and thought the event was very nicely put together. we had a loft room above the restaurant, and it was really airy with doors open in the back and out to the patio which allowed great air flow on an otherwise hot day. the high barn style ceilings also made the space feel much bigger.they set it up with a bar in the front and food platters along the side, which made it really easy for guests to get up from the table and get more food or drink, without disturbing the mom-to-be as she opened gifts.the food was served buffet style. they had a huge bowl of fresh berries which was great, and then a selection of eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, french toast, and perhaps one or two other items. the eggs were really nice and creamy, with some herbs mixed in. Salvation is one of the most reliable places you can find in the Newport/Middletown area. The food is always tasty (and healthy) and the late hours can help on late nights out. It can be quite busy from 7-9 pm, and early in the season (Memorial day to 4th of July) the restaurant is empty and peaceful. During the peak of the season its always busy and bustling, a reservation a few hours in advance is helpful. When I visit Rhode Island, Salvation is one of the places I'm are sure to please my palate at. The menu is constantly being tweaked and improved, and the service and employees are excellent. I had never been to Salvation Cafe before Sunday but my bridesmaids threw my bridal shower there and what a perfect place it was! ! The staff was SO friendly and KIND. The food was phenomenal and the atmosphere was so charming. What a little slice of Heaven right in the middle of Broadway!
