I and my family raised thousands of dollars for SalusCare, advocating for them, my family did their “Shattering the Stigma” public event in 2018 thinking they were helping people. They talk a good talk, but their care is worse than jail! After having my adult son there in crisis care at Deer Run, I speak from first hand experience that this place is a horror chamber. I have all their documentation proving of hours of restraints and isolation (his first and ONLY time having this done in a crisis facility), injections of antipsychotic drugs they were told and given medical documentation WHEN HE ARRIVED that he cannot take due to adverse reactions, HIPPA violations (other patient information and their family contact information in my son’s records that they gave to us), refusing to let family see him for visitation, refusing to transfer him. The things that we witnessed and endured....the physical and emotional harm done to my son, has rocked our entire family to the core. This place needs to be shut down! When you do more harm than good, you shouldn't be able to treat people in crisis. It scares me that CHILDREN are sent to this place. Seriously, this is the stuff horror movies and books are written about. The public should know how SalusCare treats mental illness, as there would be an uproar. I recently moved to the fort myers area not knowing anyone except my boyfriend. I was struggling with depression and a therapist was not helping. I tried to get in to a psychiatrist appointment for medication but everywhere was 30 days out. Thanks to SalusCare I was able to get in to see a psychiatrist within 3 days. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The only reason it didn't get five stars is because it is a detox center so the clientele may be outside of someone's norm environment. I've gone to SalusCare for multiple years. Their system isn't really the greatest. But the individuals there are some of the best I've ever met. They genuinely want to help those who want to be helped. It may involve fighting some of their systems to do it, but they will generally find a way of helping you. Most people don't understand that the majority of the patients that come into the facility are on illegal drugs. They are also suicidal, or wishing to harm another person. SalusCare has to take precautions for the safety of not only the staff, but the patients as well. Anything that can be used to harm oneself or someone else is prohibited; such as shoe strings to use for strangling, pillows used for suffocation or underwire in bras used for cutting. Also, medication has to be given accordingly, especially if someone has a past of drug use, or came with drugs in their system. I thank this facility for the service it provides. The treatment programs for detox are short, wish they were longer, but they give you tools you can use if you decide to take them. So far I love the staff here. I've visited four times now and the front desk staff are bilingual, funny, professional, and very helpful. I love the NP, Laura. I have gotten a lot of help in all cituations from them at first the intake was slow and hard but once I got past that it was great and the case management is wonderful. They come to your house and work with you to reach your goals. I will say this if you are trying to get better and not play games this is the place for you. This place has saved my life twice! Of course people are going to say they didn't like the place I didn't either someone giving me rules and structure, when I have been causing Kaos and calling the shots where did that get me!
