This place is the only place to go to in Carmel if you're looking for a salami, cheese or wine. Point. Ask for Carrie - she is absolutely incredible, real passionate about anything cheese & charcuterie, and also just charming. We're real cheese & cured meat enthusiasts and this place is bomb. My wife and I wanted to grab a quick bite and wanted some sandwiches. We ended up here and are SO GLAD WE DID! We were greeted by a very helpful and passionate staff. The gentleman helped us choose sandwiches that would best suit our taste preferences. I got a panini and my wife got a cold sub. They were amazing. We stopped here for lunch and had the deli sandwiches and the gelato. Both were excellent. But warning - those sandwiches are pretty big - you might just want to share. The sauces on the sandwiches were just right, the veggies were completely ripe and delicious, the meat was on the spicy side and the bread was grilled perfectly. The gelato has intense flavors!! Very yummy! They also sell Italian groceries although the selection is pretty small. Although there is no real seating inside other than I think one table just around the corner is a cute little area with several benches and a lovely Garden planted there. This place is awesome. Completely. Great food, with great ingredients. And great flavor. The only place I've EVER found in California that has actual Italian bread. Unheard of. The deli is the best Italian deli I have found anywhere. They make the bread in-house, and their Italian and Ciabatta breads are to die for. Their sandwiches are also AMAZing, and everyone that works there is passionate about the food. I have sensitivities to certain things, and Carri was extremely accommodating, and kind about it. I searched which deli was close to the shops in Carmel and this was it. I order the cabrese panini so I can take it to the beach. It had a nice spicy interesting taste. Luca is a fantastic place to go if you need Italian import groceries or fresh pasta. It has a great meat and pasta counter that can help you find exactly what you need. It also has a nice imported grocery selection that is well-curated without any fluff or nonsense. I've found some of the best goods imported from Italy here, and I can't seem to find them elsewhere. I went in today and was so hungry since my car broke down by Point Lobos and had to walk into Carmel. Finally got the car towed and decided to head into carmel for a bite to eat. I decided i wanted a sandwich, and walked into your establishment to fill my belly with some Italian food. I was very indecisive about what to get. A gentleman named Davis greeted me with a big smile and suggested the Calabrese, and boy am i glad he did! not only did i get full, i completely forgot about my horrible day! The Calabrese sandwich was to die for! It was so flavorful and the tomatoes were so fresh they tasted like they were garden grown. The gal who helped us was nice as well. Would of been nice to have some type of green, potato, or macaroni salad to accompany sandwich, as I often see at most Small Delis similar to this one. Salumeria Luca is a small Italian cured meats shop in downtown Carmel. We've stopped in on numerous visits to the village and have found some high quality eats. It's a quick in & out for fresh pasta and the attendant sauces, cured meats and sausages, picnic supplies (think wine, olives, cheeses, freshly baked bread, etc.). Deliciousness in a cup! The only "problem" was deciding which flavor to have. Solved that by having a double, chocolate and coconut. My husband had chocolate and Nutella. Great texture and flavor in all 3 flavors. We tried a sample of Salted Caramel which my husband usually orders but he couldn't pass up the two he chose. I came here for the gelato after some time at the beach. The shop is nice and orderly. They have some cool offerings, like fresh made pasta to take home and cook. The staff was nice and helpful.I had the chocolate and Nutella gelato. My wife had the peach and chocolate. The Nutella and peach were both really good. We would definitely have them again.The chocolate gelato was okay. It is a dark chocolate which totally works for me. Where it lost some points was with its texture.
