Salon 84

My first time having a cut here. Joseph is a true artist with color and cut tech technique. I will definitely go back. Two things1) it is pricey even for the UWS2) someone brought their dog in and it was jumping on people - this was a pet, not a trained service dog - leave your pets home - it's a place of wellness and no one wants a smell dog that jumps on them while being in a salon - and to Salon 84 please stop allowing it

This place is absolutely a delight to visit. This was my first time and everything from the hospitality when you walk in through the door until the time you leave was superb. The salon has a very girly, living room/miami-esque kind of vibe. Everything is clean and the staff is beyond friendly. Mariko was AMAZING- not only did she listen carefully to my needs, she was very thoughtful about what's best for me and my hair (I'm very pregnant). She frequently checked to see if I needed a pillow, or if I felt cold or needed more tea. I've lived in the city a long time - it was refreshing to get this level service without the BS. There was no product pushing or switch and bait. The prices were communicated up front. I look forward to a long relationship ahead with Mariko and Salon 84. Thanks for a great visit! More...

What a first rate salon!!  Comfortable country, cottage setting without the roar of blow dryers and a friendly staff..great music playing and delicious brew of coffee.  I am so happy to have found Joe as he not only cares about the condition of your hair but will make suggestions based upon what will be most successful for your hair type and facial features.  This place is not about selling products or special hair treatments, but focuses on what you want and what is possible for you to maintain in your life away from Joe's magic hands. I finally found a place when I can go for the rest of my life.My hair stylist Tina is the most professional and creative coiffeur. I don't even explain to her what I need to be done to my hair.She is always up to date . On the other side the place is very schick,contemporary modern classic style. The staff I extremely friendly . I have been there for the first time in august 2014. My hair dresser was Tina. I called on a friday morning and got an appointment for the afternoon. The person over the phone was very friendly so it put me at ease. It takes me a while to find them since they changed the name of the salon. It is now called salon 84. They welcomed me warmly and offered me a drink. I waited 5 minutes for my hairdresser to be ready but the nice lady at the welcome desk chatted with me.I am not a hair dresser's dream since i know specifically what I want. So while I can't talk about Tina's talent in terms of creativity, i can say that she can give you exactly what you want which is something I really appreciate.The salon is not a luxury retreat where people whisper and service is impeccably flawless ( and boring in my opinion ). People here talk, laugh and act spontaneously. So it can result in a loud laugh while you are enjoying an amazing massage given by the lady who washed my hair. I am the kind of person who like it this way so it looks like I found my new hairdresser in NYC !I was given a discount because it was my first time so I paid 100 dollars for the cut and blow dry/styling. Joe Vitale was my go-to guy when I was living in NY for a year or so. Originally found K's on yelp and so glad I did. Unfailingly lovely to talk to and sweet, he did cuts and some colors for me and always knew how to keep it glamorous but natural. One day I needed a 1920's style do for a network audition, and he researched thoroughly the night before and did the most beautiful intricate hair-up for me which got so many comments. Decided to try this place since I hated the last haircut that I got at the place I was going to before. Had my cut done by Mariko and she was great! She listened to me and gave me exactly what I wanted, while at the same time giving me her advice on what would work best. Plus, compared to other salons in the city it's relatively cheap for the quality of service (place I was initially going to go to was $100 for a cut compared to about $60 here). This salon makes you feel at home! My hairstylist Mariko is great! She gives me perfect blowdry! Her makeup talent is amazing. I love coming here! Joe and Joseph are amazing 2! I've been getting my hair cut at K's for more than 3 years now, and I just wanted to put in a word for how wonderful they are.  It's the friendliest, most pleasant salon I've ever been to - relaxed and elegant at the same time - and they do a phenomenal job with hair!  I went to Kaye until she moved back to Australia, and today Joseph did a great job with my hair.  I no longer live nearby, but based on not-so-great experiences I had before I found K's, and some horrid Yelp reviews of other salons that are more convenient, it's worth coming back to the UWS and paying a little bit extra.  I always look and feel great when I walk out! Cute, friendly place with talented stylists. Friendly owner, tea/coffee and laughs abound! You feel good being here because the staff get along and are like a family. In particular, for those of you with very thick and straight Asian hair, I would highly recommend Mariko Miyagi. When i moved back to NYC after college, i had many disastrous results with hairstylists across the city, which ended when i found Mariko! I have been seeing her for 8 years or so now, have followed her loyally, and she truly understands my hair. She is super talented, super sweet, and can offer helpful suggestions on your hair cut depending on your morning routine, preferences, etc. And i have no doubt she's talented with other kinds of hair, whether it's coloring, perms, curly hair, etc. So good atmosphere, friendly folks, and talented stylists. Having moved to the city from Jersey, I was in dire need of a new hair stylist and after seeing the reviews for K's Salon, I gave it a try.  Just entering this salon, you get a feeling of "you're home" and along with their professionalism, you also get a warm welcome and outstanding attention to your every need.  I was fortunate enough to get in with Mariko, who I think is the sweetest, most talented hair stylist I've ever been to.  She was able to match my color perfectly to what I had been getting before and it looked better than ever!  And, as if that wasn't enough to make me happy, their prices were on par with what I was paying in Jersey...... yes, I said 'Jersey'!  You'd think that getting such services in the city would be enough to bankrupt any pocket, but I was pleasantly surprised when they totaled up the bill.  Oh, and don't let me forget to mention Irwin, who not only washed my hair, but gave me the most intense, delightful head and neck massage that I'd never gotten before anywhere.  I would go there just for that!  So, don't hesitate if you're looking for a new salon.  This place is pure heaven for those of us who refuse to give in to gray hair. ;D More...

Really cute and girlie salon...I just looove it so much! MARIKO is excellent!!! She has been cutting my hair ever since I moved to NYC in 2005 and she's amazing at what she does and there's no one better than her! I have long thick dark hair and she cuts it like no other, and I looove the way she layers my hair all around, to give it a beautiful (and sexy!) bounce and vitality.Worth checking it out...you won't leave less than super happy with your hair! I visited K's salon based on its high Yelp rating after not having a haircut for over a year. My head was starting to feel like a bird's nest. This was also my first time having a haircut this expensive, I'm much more used to frequenting Chinatown establishments. Joe, who cut my hair, was so lovely. This is a place, I observe, where you form a relationship wtih your stylist and chat to them about your life and treat them like family. Unfortunately I'm the sit quietly while you cut my hair type of gal... so it was a little awkward, but not anyone's fault. The cut was great, and the atmosphere as a whole was relaxing and calm. Since I was getting a cut for a special occasion Joe took the time to curl my hair after the blowout, and it looked amazing. I tried to get my hair done before vacation, but the person I normally go to was on vacation.  I ran out of time and decided to get my hair done shortly after my arrival to New York.  I was worried that I was going to have to pay an enormous amount in Manhattan. My poor neglected strands were damaged from too much bleach I had about a year ago by a stylist who lied and said I needed to use bleach to dye my dark brown hair medium brown.  My broken uneven ends were turning light brown from the bleach.I received great friendly service at K's.  Joey was great!  I love my new color and cut! It's been about a month now and my hair has not faded.  The entire staff worked together to make you feel at comfortable. I have been getting my hair done for years downtown, always liked the work I had done, but was rarely jumping for joy and was frequently wrought with gilt due to the price-tag. After getting a botched brazilian keratin treatment, I needed my hair cut on a Monday morning, as I could not go out of the apartment looking like I did (serious dead ends). On a whim, I went to K's, as it is close to my apartment, and Joe V cut my hair. I was VERY impressed. He spent nearly 45 minutes actually CUTTING my hair. Usually, the hair dresser spends 10 minutes cutting and hands you a bill for $150, and you style it yourself. Joe V. spent a good 45 minutes on the actual cut; he was meticulous and it paid off! Then he blow dried my hair in a fun, flowy way. The price was unbelievably reasonable, and the atmosphere was pleasant/cute. They let me bring my chihuahua, which is always a plus. What a wonderful salon! Everyone there is so friendly. I just had my first cut there with Kaye, who's pretty fantastic. She knew exactly what I wanted, did it fast, and gave me a quick (and beautiful, might I add) blow dry without any extra charges. I was in and out in half an hour, and I have A LOT of hair.The staff in general was also great. Everyone was teasing each other and working together, just a generally fun atmosphere. I love love love K Salon.  I am definitely one of those people who is hard to impress, so the fact that I am writing this review says it all.  I first met Joseph through a friend, and I've never left him.  Don't bother bringing a photo - Joseph just looks at your face and knows what will look good.  If you want a new "look" but just don't know where to start, ask Joseph.  I get tons of compliments on his cuts, and women stop me in the street to find out where I go.  I always send them to Joseph! This was my 2nd time in K's salon.  I have kaye this time round.  She gives me a fabulous cut, one of the best cut so far in NYC.  She is very patient and professional.  The experience is greatly enhanced with the wonderful decor of the salon and great service provided.  You felt like a cherished guest, with tea/coffee being served when you are having your cut.  There is no rush and hassle to get by but full attention given by the hair-stylist.  Love the chandeliers!  Although it is slightly on the pricey side, the experience and the great cut is well worth it. I am new to the city so have placed heavy reliance on YELP to help navigate my way to great places.  They have done it again with K's!  I was able to get a Saturday afternoon appointment easily and they really listened to the color and cut that I wanted.  I get blonde highlights and it is hard to find a salon that steers clear of the "gold" look and gives me a really natural highlight - but Kellie got it right.  The color was close to the root of the hair and the cut and blow dry was great for my Saturday night out. I fourth Trish. Extremely professional, sweet, an absolute joy. I get compliments all the time about her delicate handiwork. While the 70 bucks you drop here is a lot (I haven't been able to go after a bank-account-busting summer abroad), its absolutely worth every penny.
