This place is really good! It's in one of the building I work in which is super convenient. I get their breakfast and the homemade cookies. The staff here are extremely nice.

I'm giving Green Tomato 5 stars for these reasons:(1) Their chicken taco salad is the bomb dot com. If you don't believe me, see photo below. Admit it, you want to eat that.(2) The people who work here are the nicest and friendliest of any restaurant in Salem, and if I'm having a bad work day sometimes I go here for lunch just because they cheer me up.(3) You can order practically anything here. You name it, Green Tomato probably has it on their menu. One of my favorite things to get here is a rice bowl. I'm not even sure it's on their official menu, but if you ask for a rice bowl they'll give you a bowl of rice, beans, veggies, pico and/or guac, for like three dollars, plus meat for a couple more dollars. (4) You will get your food quickly. I have like a 25 minute lunch break so this is important.(5) I've eaten here dozens of times because it's really close to my work place and by now I'm attached and possibly a bit biased. I love Green Tomato.Now, just to be clear:If you are visiting Salem for the first time and looking for the perfect lunch spot for your Salem day trip, this is probably not where you want to go. If you're searching for the perfect date night destination for you and your sweetie pie, this is probably not it. It definitely has a cafeteria sort of feel, and I don't even think they're open in the evening. I am giving 5 stars because what Green Tomato is is a place for people who work in the area to drop by and pick up a quick, tasty, and affordable lunch to go. I had breakfast here and I'm very impressed on how fast my order come out. Friendly service and a nice atmosphere being located inside a huge building. I would highly recommend people to come here. Also most importantly my breakfast was delicious. I had an English muffin with egg, sausage, and cheese. Finished it off with the home fries and a coffee, I'm for sure coming back. More...

I eat here about 3 days a week. Breakfast, lunch. Sometimes grab lentil soup for dinner to bring home to fam. I love the people here. They're really nice. The cook is the nicest one. I can't imagine the reviewer (danp) is talking about the same cook. But if someone did that to me I would give one star and a bad review too. I haven't eaten at Lees in gloucester for 15 years for being snubbed similarly. Still, I love this place for food. Ambience? Meh. One star but who cares? It is for the people in the building. And it is what it is. But... Consistent, sort of like a mini brothers deli with a Salvadoran bent if you want it. (Ask for salt if you do take away)Deli house across the street is awesome, too.
