Was out in fed for the night for a friend's birthday, around midnight he said we should try Rubens and that it won't disappoint. We all split a burrito and I was hooked. 2am rolled around and I had to have another, this time we all got our own. Woke up on Saturday, got a ride back to my car outside the city and decided I had to have more and I drove back into the city (granted only 15 minutes) and bought 2 more chicken burritos for lunch and dinner. Very impressed with Ruben's. My friend raves about it and then I got a Five Star deal so I tried them out. The chicken quesadilla tasted very authentic. They provided mild and hot salsa as well as sour cream. The hot salsa is pretty intense (confirmed by a spicy lover) and the mild and sour cream are a great addition for those who enjoy flavor but can't handle spice. They had several options including quesadillas, burritos, and rice bowls, as well as sweet and savory crepes. They are a take out restaurant with a few stools if you choose to sit there. They were so quick (waited 5-10 minutes max) and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be back for more!!! More...

Talk about a hidden gem!Super delicious!  We were a little shocked when we walked in & saw how TINY it was.  Not really a lot of space to eat in, 3 stools in total.  But luckily we were able to snag 2 of them.  =)Quesadillas were divine!  & the super fresh pico de gallo was super yummy.  Needless to say, lunch was yummy that day!  I really loved their special red hot sauce!  I'd have bought a few bottles if it was for sale.We were SO impressed with them, that we tried ordering in with them.  Bad idea!  =(  We should have went back in person.  The order that we placed in person was done & ready to eat in less than 8 minutes.  Our delivery order took over an hour!  & they are less than a mile away!Needless to say the food was cold, but it was also not on par with the food we had eaten in the restaurant.  The chorizo was over cooked & was solid as a rock, & was like eating gravel.  The chicken was dry & rubbery.So, great food, just don't get it delivered, go to the restaurant yourself! Tacos are so good!!! I had the stake and chicken tacos. Delicious!!! They taste like the tacos from Mexico! Served with 2 different salsas on the side and sour cream. Two thumbs up!!! Taco Tuesday every week with. only $1.99 per taco.
Also they serve crapes, both savory and sweet!! On Saturday nights you can make your own crape:) if you make it well, it’s free. But if it falls apart, you pay $2 more then a regular price. Awesome idea!!! More...

Let me tell y'all- this is the best drunk food in fed hill. Fuck all the pizza places open late night.  Anyway- the chicken quesadilla is my go to.  The meat is so well seasoned, it's so cheesy, and the tortilla is soft and fluffy.  But there's another thing I have to mention; the red sauce.  That red sauce is so beautifully spicy and flavor full I am always that annoying girl saying, "Can I have extra sauce please " Because it's that fucking good.  The bonus is that it helps prevent a hangover because I have to drink so much water because it's so spicy that I actually do myself some good.  I love you Ruben's. We ordered delivery at work through Uber eats. Food came extremely fast. I had steak tacos that were delicious. The red sauce was hot but I like hot. The verde sauce looked more like green water. I also ordered guacamole and chips. The guacamole was very fresh and good. The chips tasted like they came straight from a bag. Crunchy but not light and crispy which I expect at a Mexican restaurant. I also wanted some salsa but couldn't order it because it wasn't on menu to order although it was on several items on menu. Just had two steak tacos. They were pretty good. The sauces were nice, too. I also ordered guacamole. It was good, but the tortilla chips that accompanied it weren't. They didn't seem homemade to me. I've had the tortilla chips at a joint in Upper Fells, so maybe I'm spoiled now. The chips were also oversalted. But I wouldn't mind having tacos again! Yum! More...

We ordered a chicken burrito and a steak burrito bowl. I thought they were both delicious although my companion was slightly less impressed. The sauces were great as well, especially the spicy red. Ruben's is a small, unassuming store in a crowded area so it's easy to miss. But don't sleep on their food! Plain, simple but very well prepared food. Ordered a steak burrito and a chicken quesadilla. Both meats were well seasoned. Cheese and pico de gallo on both were great. Rice and beans in the burrito and some great salsas on the side. This place is so good!!! We stopped by here late at night because we saw a large crowd entering the shop around then. We were super hungry and wanted some good food and that's what we got. I ordered the chicken burrito. My favorite part of this order was actually the sauces that came with the burrito. The orange one was really spicy and flavorful and the green one was also really good. Ruben's food is always delicious, always come out quickly, and you always get service with a smile. It can get pretty crowded quickly, bc it's a very small shop. Even though it takes a very little time for food to be ready, I like to order on grubhub first, so I can walk in and walk out. The other day, I ordered and grubhub told me 15 mins - they had my order ready in 10. :) I'm also a condiment-aholic, and I love the salsa and spicy sauce, and appreciate that there is sour cream on the side for good measure too. So far, I've only gotten tacos from them, but my friend loves the quesadillas and the burritos. So I'll have to branch out more in the future. Yay for Rubens! More...

After a few hours at The Charles, I was hankering for some real food. I found Ruebens on my way to the car. There is a small counter to eat at, but other than that take your tacos to go. I ordered two tacos and ate one in the car. They were accompanied by a spicy sauce and sour cream. The taco was made on a flour tortilla and it was quite tasty. I was so happy to see that Rubens was making a comeback in Fedhill! I loved their crepes before and at the farmers market, so I'm happy to have them all the time again! Been ordering Ruben's for a few months now that I live pretty close to the location and they have really opened things up for me a little bit. I usually get taco and burrito cravings at all hours of the day/night and my first thought each time if I want something close is Ruben's.I love the way their meals come prepped, and the different options and tweaks you can make to your burritos and tacos. I also love the fact that the ingredients are pretty fresh and seem like something you'd get at a more mid-range restaurant as opposed to something that is fast food. Perfect place for a quick bite to eat sober or drunk! I got the chicken taco and it was fabulous! The chicken was so moist and flavorful. It came with two sauces and sour cream but I only liked the sour cream. You definitely need at least two tacos to fill you up as they are on corn tortillas. Listen here... I don't know what they do to their burritos, but it's gonna be my vibe for the remainder of the year. The meat is uber flavorful and the rest of the filling complements it like a sexy puzzle piece. They also panini press it which gives the tortilla a sensually firm bite. I hope you can tell how wet my.... mouth is right now. The reason for the missing star is that the sweet crepe I got (Strawberry Nutella, I think) was a little too light for me. It could use another slabbering of Nutella and a few more strawberries because there were a few nooks that were plain. This place is the perfect lunch spot. The tacos are simple but very flavorful. I ordered 2 chicken tacos, that came with sour creme, a spicy sauce, and some sort of green salsa. All of the dips complemented the taco very well. I sat in the small bar style seating area, which wasn't crowded around 1pm. There was some nice Spanglish music playing,and the overall vibe of the place was very pleasant. What makes this place even better, the owner, Ruben, is a recent high school graduate. It's such a pleasure to go in and see his business flourish at such a young age. With great customer service and great good, this place can only get better. This food is outstanding.  The owners need a little bit more practice at the little restaurateur things (including utensils and napkins and such), but the food is so amazing and authentic (not Tex-Mex or anything, straight up Mexican) that is definitely has a place in the neighborhood.  The sit down Mexican places in Fed Hill are nice but work better as bars that happen to have tacos.  This is a real deal taco stand and if you like tacos, you need to try these. Ruben's is back after a several year long hiatus. I can't tell you what the food was like before, but I can certainly tell you that it's delicious now! I had a carnitas burrito, which was fantastic. The meat was tender and flavorful. The tortilla was soft on the inside and crispy on the outside where it had been grilled.The real star of the show is their spicy red salsa. It's one of the best salsas I've ever had. I'm hoping they'll tell me what's in it when I go back (or maybe sell me a bottle of it).Bottom line: great Mexican food. Yes, its a little weird that a place would sell both mexican dishes and crepes, but somehow it just works. Every crepe I have tried has been very good, and the tacos are great as well. You can see that everything is made fresh. Their green and red sauces are also awesome. Absolutely delicious.  This sets up around my work for lunch time once a week, and the lines around around the parking lot.  There's a reason for this, they are quick and DELICIOUS!  I haven't had a single thing here that I didn't like.  My favorite in the Mexican Wrap, but I've tried Crepes (mine was a chicken/cheesy heaven), Quesadillas, and a Rice Bowl before.  My go to is always the Mexican Wrap (as is a lot of people I work with).  It's great, try it.  You won't be disappointed. I've traveled the entire US for amazing burritos and this to date may have been the most authentic non Americanized crap I've been getting everywhere else. Ruben's crepes are great! I echo all of the other reviews. While the idea of a Mexican crepe is strange to think about, it is delicious to eat! I usually have the savory crepes for lunch, but occasionally I splurge and get a sweet crepe for dessert.Right now, posted hours are 4 pm to 2 am. I have made fun of this restaurant for a solid 6 months, ever since moving to Federal Hill (it says Ruben's Crepes and Mexican Food on the sign. ..it is just an odd combination, and for a long time, I thought they were claiming to offer ruben sandwiches, crepes, and Mexican food). I was so very wrong. I went in the other day and got a savory crepe loaded with cheese, vegetables, and chorizo...and it was GOOD. It was like a French quesadilla. I thought it was a little on the pricey side (~$11 for the crepe), but it was substantial enough for a meal. I will definitely be going back to try the sweet crepes! Sweet or savory? Sweet or savory? It's the eternal crepe dilemma. The only satisfying solution is to go with both or you'll be yearning for the other option halfway through your meal. In Ruben's case, the Mexican variety is his specialty but the nutella/fruit decision is never wrong. There are tons of options and ideas listed, and I'm going to try something new every time until I've exhausted the possibilities. I just wish they would add a little bit *more* of whatever goodies you've chosen to your crepe...next time I'll chime up as they are making it in front of me. The crepes by themselves are so thin and buttery that one by itself with a little cinnamon sugar makes a nice little snack. (08/18/2010)  I love food from trucks!  A truck from Ruben's used to show up at work every Wednesday during the pleasant summer months. I usually had the special of the day: carne (beef) asada, cilantro, white onion, tomatoes, queso fresco, salsa verde. Fillings were fresh (except for the leathery pieces of beef), crepe was a little sweet.  Another nice crepe was the #2 (Ham, Apple, Maple, Spinach, Muenster Cheese).  Probably have tried 8 or 9 different savory crepe combos from there.  My faves are always the ones with the Mexican-style ingredients.  Don't be afraid of the eggs and beans one!  We miss them at work.  Have never been to the store location (so can't comment on that), but if it's a crepe and Ruben and his crew are cooking it, I bet it's good. What a great find!  Yummy, hot, homemade crepes with all sorts of delicious fillings are served fresh from this small, very casual restaurant in Federal Hill on Charles St. My husband and I went for dinner.  We got four of the $4 crepe specials of the day- the baby spinach, asiago, and black pepper crepe; the egg and cheddar cheese crepe; the banana and nutella crepe; and the apple, butter, and cinnamon crepe.  It ended up being quite filling for $16.First of all, the crepes themselves were delicious- thin and hot.  But we loved all four of the crepes we tried, and it's very reasonably priced (aside from the specials, typical prices are in the $6-$8 range).  There are many great sounding flavors- I really want to try the peanut butter, chocolate, marshmallow, and banana crepe.They also sell some Mexican food- which sounded good as well.  Given the price and the quality, I'm hoping this place does well- it's a great little place to have around for lunch or an easy dinner.
