The main dance floor is roomy, which is good because it's a popular place on Friday nights! We've noticed a number of regulars with serious skills, which is evidence of the good business model, friendly atmosphere, and quality teaching. Friday night - Open dance starts with an hour-long mini-class at 7:00, then a variety of music and dancing until 11. I'm disappointed it will cost $15/person starting in December because it was already a splurge at $12/each (for us). Beginner tip: If you're trying to learn one of the MANY line dances, jump into the middle of the pack quickly so you have people to watch no matter what direction you turn.Dave- the owner and instructor is knowledgeable and calm. My husband and I are beginners, but Dave constantly scans for the things we need corrected and repeated. It's a good thing he's so kind and patient!Terry- We took a class from him in the smaller area, and while he knew the dance very well (both leader and follower's parts), we felt he spent too much time describing things and explaining his analogies. That said, we would take another class from him. We appreciated how at the end of every class, asked us to get out our phones and record him as he demonstrated the new steps. That made it easy to practice at home. His female assistant was fantastic-- patient and great at demonstrating the follower's part. She showed more and talked less; more efficient practice means better muscle memory. More...

Editing to add that my husband and I have continued to attend classes and the Every Friday Night Dance. We've taken just about all of the classes listed below and they're ALL fun! I've even taken up Line Dancing. This is a wonderful place to dance at. And the regulars have made us feel welcomed and a part of their group. We've really gotten to know some amazing people. If you're on the fence about coming... COME! Give it a shot! You really won't be disappointed!!This is a FANTASTIC place to learn any kind of couples dances. My husband and I have taken two styles so far (Jitterbug & Nightclub 2-step) and can't wait to take more styles (East Coast Swing, Country 2-step, Cha-Cha and maybe even West Coast Swing)!! Dave is the perfect instructor. Patient, thorough & comical. The staff is friendly and welcoming. And the Friday night dance with the lesson prior to the dance itself is SUPER fun! I love the Dance Barn! I try to come every Friday night. I'm coming from Federal Way, a little bit of a drive, but it is worth it! The lessons are great! I love learning, and it's in a great environment to learn. Dave is great at teaching, showing, and making you laugh so you can settle some nerves. The environment is fantastic! There are plenty of line dances going all night so there is always something to do, even if you're new to the scene and don't know many of the dances. They announce what dances work with the songs they play so if you're like me, and don't know from the beat exactly what the dance is, you can have a clue.It truly is the highlight of my week to visit the Dance Barn! Thank you for the great experiences I've had, and will continue to have at this great establishment! More...

I've been dancing at the Rockin' Horse Dance Barn at least twice monthly for over seven years. The DJs play a very WIDE variety of dance music: country, Latin, waltz, etc. The "Barn" has a very large dance floor. There are dance lessons throughout the week, with public dances on Friday and Saturday nights. There is usually about a 50/50 split between males versus female dancers -- most are "single". As the dance hall is alcohol free, the attendees are there to dance (with some socialization). A really good group of people. The DJ is always willing to take music requests. More...

I recently returned to the activity of country western dancing. I picked the Rocking Horse Dance Barn (RHDB) for its proximity. What a pleasant surprise. When I walked in the place was intimidating. The dance floor is really "barn" size. The decor is western and you might think you walked into a dance hall in TX. The difference is people show up to "dance." It is alcohol-free and probably appeals to those who want to socialize without the effects alcohol has on dancing and "socializing."The instructors are very personable and professional. Personalities are "generous" with all being willing to talk to your "issue" whether it is personal or technical. They do not pry, and offer only their experience. The dances taught vary from the "Lindy" to the "Hustle" to the "West Coast Swing." There are also classes in Latin dance (salsa, tango) and all the western variations on "swing" and "polka." I have found the Line Dance classes to be great "exercise" in the morning - since I have retired (wish it had been part of my healthcare package.) Most classes also address "dance etiquette" for large-floor and small-floor facilities as well as some "regional" differences to style variations.Friday nights are usually well attended, and you'll see the beginners (self) as well as people who have danced competitively. If you are there for the "activity/exercise" you will find the DJs all have suggestions as to what kind of dancing goes best with the various artists and music. You will also find that most people will dance with you, if you ask nicely.Hope this helps. And, remember to dance as if no one was looking! More...

I started going to the Rockin' Horse Dance Barn in January. I have had a blast at the Friday night country dances and the occasional Saturday ballroom/varietydances (check the website calendar as there isn't a dance EVERY Saturday. ) I didn't know a soul on my first visit, and having danced with the same partner for many years, I felt like a beginner having to learn all over how to be a good "follower". It took a couple times before I started getting asked regularly to dance a lot, but I'm so glad I kept going back. After a couple months, I now have many new friends and dance partners. The crowd is friendly, there are all levels with many beginners, so that a novice doesn't have to worry about feeling intimidated. The huge wood floor is one of the best around. Friday nights is mostly country, although you can request any song from DJ Dave for any style of dance. There are both line dancers and partner dancing and there is a high level of "dance etiquette" and respect on the floor. I also started taking group lessons and have found that Dave is one of the best dance instructors I've come across. I feel like I have a new "home". My husband and I decided long before we got engaged, that we would take dance lessons.Neither of us could dance;he has two left feet and I have no rhythm. Yikes!
I searched reviews online, and ended up booking a single lesson at Rockin Horse Dance Barn to see how their teaching style differed from what we had previously experienced. It was a night and day difference and we haven’t looked back.
We worked with Dave, the owner, and explained our situation and he worked with us to choreograph our first dance. The initial song that we had chosen ended up being too fast; he and his wife demonstrated how we could dance to it, and we decided sprinting through our first dance was sub optimal. We ended up choosing a different song, which worked out to be a much better fit.
Dave was patient with my husband’s two left feet, and helped me find my rhythm. If we didn’t like a particular step he showed us, it was no big deal to let him know and we used something else. The dance came together and it was amazing.
The day of the wedding was a blur, but watching the video was the most incredible feeling. The dance began as they all do, side conversations here and there…but by a third of the way into the dance, all eyes were on us. We were focused on each other, we didn’t miss a step and everyone cheered after each turn, and at the end of the dance. When we were walking off the dance floor, the MC stated that that was what two people in love look like. It was amazing and so emotional.
We will definitely be back to continue taking lessons together. It was great to have quality time with my husband while we do an activity together.
Thank you Dave for giving us a memory that will last a lifetime!

My husband and I decided long before we got engaged, that we would take dance lessons. Neither of us could dance; he has two left feet and I have no rhythm. Yikes! As an intro, I purchased a groupon from a local studio which provided a basic overview of most dances so we could get our feet wet, so to speak, and judge what we had to work with. At the end of our groupon, we were pulled into a side room and pushed into the upsell game. While the staff there was friendly, there was a lot of side chit chat which took away from the time we would end up spending dancing overall...when you pay money for dance lessons, I didn't want to just stand there.I searched reviews online, and ended up booking a single lesson at Rockin Horse Dance Barn to see how their teaching style differed from what we had previously experienced. Rockin Horse Dance barn provided both dance lesson for our first dance and DJ'd our wedding. Here are reviews for both.
The Rockin Horse Dance Barn is a great place to learn social dancing. My groom and I started taking group dance lesson, 9 months before our wedding. We did waltz and east coast swing. Our instructor for all of our classes was Jeannette Baker, she made the classes fun, made sure everyone was getting it and we could even do a short dance at the end of 6 wks lesson. Then we took private lessons about once a week till the wedding, Jeannette helped us choragraph 2-first dances for our wedding. They both were big hits, if you could only see the video and hear the people cheering and clapping though both dances. So many comments from friends and family how great our wedding was and the best part, was the dances!

Dave Serfling, owner,DJ and dance instructor, did a great job at our wedding. He played our wedding and reception music. As a MC he did a great job making sure the running of the wedding went smoothly. He was there early for set up, met with us to do a quick run though of the timeline. He and my wedding coordinater ran the show from then on. One thing you get with Dave that you dont get with other DJ's is he is a profressional dance instructor. So after dinner everyone went out to the dance floor and he taught a lesson in how to do the jitterbug. My guests loved it. My children are in their 20's them and their friends were all participating it was great. They all thought Dave was a great dancer! My daughter and her boyfriend are even thinking about taking some jitterbug lessons. It truley added to the fun of our wedding.
