This is one of the best gym's I ever belonged to. They have everything you need as far as machine equipment, free weights and high end cardio machine's. The gym is never packed or crowded which is a major bonus for me. It's also very clean, they provide hand towels and last but not least, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful! I highly recommend this club to anyone! More...

WONDERFUL! And if you are from NYC or LA, it's really cheap. I visited last month and wish I could go there every day for a week. I'm a swimmer and the pool, while too warm, is a dream. So long and deep It's what I call a "country" gym. SBAC used to be like this but they upgraded facilities greatly and now it's not Equinox but it's pretty fancy. The pool is just heavenly, with views of the trees and mountains. I miss outdoor swimming. The steam room is bizarre. It's hot but instead of benches there are these curved white plastic seats that resemble madeleine cookies stuck to the walls. Dry sauna is hot and has views through one side. The locker room isn't fancy but it's okay. There is coffee and they have wine and beer for very little money. It totally reminds me of SBAC, my club 18 years. The yoga room is fantastic. I was alone and did a full hour practice. The machines, both weight and cardio, are good. Lots of parking. I spent three hours here. A highlight of my Bay Area trip.P.S. The yoga teacher is from Chicago. She is trained in ballet and IYENGAR! Rare for a gym outside Equinox and even most Equinox clubs don't have Iyengar-trained teachers. She sounds like a true gem. My husband went back to my home town for a family reunion and being the fitness enthusiasts that we are in California we were looking for a gym we could train at while on vacation. I reached out to my friends and family on social media asking for a recommendation and the Ridge AC was one so I reached out under the "contact is" tab and had all my questions answered by Erica Cherry and was given a very reasonable deal on a couples week pass. We went to the gym every day but the day we landed and it was clean, the staff was friendly, the equipments was in order and well maintained. All and all it was a great experience all thanks to the staff there and there clientele. More...

I've been a member for a little over 2 years. I really like the fitness classes and the pool is very nice. Staff is always friendly and so are other members. It can get really windy, so sometimes sitting by the pool isn't that pleasant. Some of the club could use some updates I.e fix the fan in the upstairs exercise room, tile in bathrooms are old and dated, pool towels are tiny. Minor things, but otherwise I really like the place and hope to stay a member for a long time. More...

I have been a member of Lakeridge for the past four years mainly in order to use the BEAUTIFUL pool for lap swimming and to attend yoga classes.  The pool is heated year round to between 82-84 degrees making it perfect for laps.  I have also participated in the aqua-jog class held on Tues. and Thurs. from 9:30-10:30am and that is a great class too.  The yoga classes are great for me, an active senior, and have improved my core strength, balance and flexibility.  This is a great club with friendly and responsive staff and I recommend it highly. I have been a member at Lakeridge for the last 5 years. I love the place! The staff is amazing, the facility is clean, the childcare crew are super attentive. The pool and hot tub are amazing; well cared for and clean. Even when it is considered to be "busy" it is easy to spot your child while lounging on the pool deck. Last year they started selling reasonably priced adult beverages, super  fun pool side last summer! Recently, they have upgraded MANY things: all their stationary bikes, treadmills, showers and weight selection. Classes vary in difficulty levels . I frequent the cycling classes and TRX and Pilar will give you an amazing work out, but I hear good things about the yoga, piyo, tai chi, circuit and Zumba. They do many social events as well, all that are free or at a minimal cost: kids movie drop off night, holiday party, beer tasting, wine and cheese party, Easter egg hunt, Halloween parade, Christmas party. Membership is more pricey then some other clubs but I believe you get what you pay for! Oh! Cant forget the free morning café too. More...

It's only fair to give credit where it's due and this place HAS made a major turn around. The womanizing/politalk is at an all time low, the towels are flowing free, and the facilities have been kept up much more consistently than in the past. The location really IS beautiful, and although it is still frustrating to have had certain behaviors ignored and dismissed for so long, it is what it is; and it seems that everybody is just trying their best. So I'll shut up now. :) More...

I've been a member off and on since about 2013, but recently rejoined and am here to stay! It's a bit more expensive than neighboring gyms, but I've tried out Hercules Fitness, the YMCA, and the new City Sports Club, and my experiences at them made me come back to the Lakeridge ready to commit. I mainly use the pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and child care, although I've also done some classes which have all been fabulous. It has most if not all of the same amenities that you would get at The Hills in Oakland or at the Claremont Resort, but for a tiny fraction of the cost. There were a few things I had a quibble with in the past, like too much TV in the childcare or it being too windy, but they've addressed those (new TV policy, new wind barriers) and I deeply enjoy my time there. I go, read, a magazine, eat a snack, hit the hot tub and relax. Try doing that at any other local place! More...

I LOVE this health club! Super friendly staff, excellent child care facility, nice locker rooms with restrooms and nice showers (all together in same area). Plenty of roomy lockers for your stuff...just bring your own lock. They also have a lot of fun activities scheduled throughout the year. BBQ's, wine tastings, paint nights, etc. There's a nice BIG pool with lanes for lap swimming and a separate side for hanging out & for kids to swim. nice big hot tub for relaxing tired muscles! They have swimming lessons that you can sign up & pay for year around too! This health club is well worth having a membership! Great for all ages! Very family oriented club. More...

Lakeridge has something for everyone. A large fitness center with updated machines, every kind of class you can think of, childcare, tennis courts, racquetball courts, sauna, hot tub, and my favorite: a gigantic heated outdoor pool with beautiful views of the surrounding hills. Sometimes on warm summer evenings (yes, we actually have warm summers in El Sobrante, which is just on the other side of the hill from Berkeley) I bring the kids to swim, have dinner by the pool, and can even enjoy a glass of wine. And it's only ten minutes away from Orinda, 15 minutes from El Cerrito, or 20 minutes from the Berkeley hills. More...

Lakeridge gets 5 stars from me for several reasons...1) continually making improvements - example, the parking lot covers/solar panels are a huge improvement in lighting at night, shelter from rain, electric car hook ups and solar energy 2) management has made great efforts in the last year or more to communicate changes/news via email - example- class instructor change or reminding of holiday hours. 3) management and staff has always done a great job of making members feel welcome and appreciated, creating much more of a community than just a gym.  They have hosted many events for members to socialize which fosters more friendships and ultimately keeps members coming back.  Lakeridge is a big cut above the discount gyms. The pool is stunning, heated year round. There are also tennis courts, sauna, steam, jacuzzi, locker rooms, child care, a multitude of classes (included) as well as all the cardio and weight equipment you could want. I say, check it out! I moved to the area in 2001, and I think I joined Lakeridge in 2002.   Since then, the "club" has gotten much better over the years.  When I first became a member the place was definitely dated and felt like I was in the 70's.  But as time progressed they've upgraded and continue to make improvements. The weight lifting equipment is modern Life Fitness with a machine or 2 for every muscle group.  They also have a lot free weight, and dumbells.  The treadmills and cardio equipment are also new Life Fitness equipment.  They also offer yoga, fitness/aerobics, and spin class.  The spin bikes are tuned up regularly by the local bike shop here in town. Not to long ago they created a TRX room.  I haven't taken the classes, but I use the room and the equipment on my own all the time.  The highlight of the "club" is the pool.  Heated all year round, plenty of lanes i think 8 plus a large area for non lap swimmers?   Summertime is the best because members can hang out all day, bbq, drink beer, etc! Other amenities include raquetball, tennis, massage, childcare, steam room, sauna, and hot tub.  They also have events, like wine/beer tasting, member parties, business socials/mixers, the list goes on.   It's more than an athletic "club", it's community.   Can things be better, well of course, everything can be better.  One thing to keep in mind is that Lakeridge is a "club", not a "gym".  It's also privately owned, unlike the franchise corporate "gyms" in the area. The best way I can describe the comparison between Lakeridge Athletic "Club" and the franchise "gyms" is Lakeridge is like going to a 5 star restaurant and having a steak dinner with all the fixn's, while the "gyms" in the area are like having a steak and salad bar at Sizzler's.   Don't get me wrong, I like Sizzler, but I prefer a nice grass fed steak perfectly prepared with the best ingredients,  but hey, that's just me.   Are you like me?  If so,  Lakeridge is the place you would prefer to workout at!  Bottomline,  It's not just a "club", it's a community. I was able to alternate between the therapy pool and the spa for two hours. The therapy pool is saltwater and the buoyancy took a bunch of the weight off my back, and the jets in the spa gave me a good massage. The pain came right back after getting out but the 2 hours of relief was fabulous. I have a really great kid. More...

The slightly ritzy environment and overwhelming workout options were intimidating at first, but now I that I am aquainted with the place, I feel quite comfortable there. We often come during the middle of the day or weekend evenings, and are able to avoid the bigger crowds. I've run into a handful of fitness snobs, and one rude/pointless employee, but most people are kind and just trying to get exercise and have some fun. The membership fee is on the higher end, but it's a higher end facility. I love everything they have to offer and plan on adding our teenage kids to our membership this spring. More...
