Well after 10 months since my last bad experience i decided to have dinner here and unfortunately it was not a good experience either, never in a million years did I think coming to this restaurant, I would ever see cats loitering and this restaurant. Well Friday evening 2-3-2023, as I am walking up to the door not 1 but 2 cats were running around by the front door. Eh it's just kind of ok. The food is very average for the price. I think that's what holds this place back is the cost. At a lower price point it would be great but they charge high rates for basic No creative dishes. The place is always busy so I guess they can charge that rate cause people will pay. Sitting next to the water at Rick's is like being on vacation. The sun shimmers on the water. On a beautiful winter day, I forget about the cold. I had lunch yesterday. The dining room is welcoming and decorated for Valentine's Day. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I had a lunch of seafood chowder and the wedge salad. The chowder is thick and packed with clams. It was very good. The Wedge Salad is enormous with generous amounts of thick bacon, chucks of blue cheese and grape tomatoes. I came here with my family over the weekend and I was really excited to try it out! We had five adults and two babies so I was surprised we were able to be seated so quickly and even more surprised to get a nice water view near the fire place! The date: December 29th, my sister's birthday.The location: Rick's Café Boatyard.We arrived and were greeted by the entire waitstaff. They applauded my sister. She had made it. Nineteen years. The entree's were great in size, while not sacrificing their deliciousness. The dessert was superb.My only complaint: the reservoir was underwhelming. As an Oregon native, when I heard there was a "great reservoir ," I was expecting something along the lines of the beautiful "Prineville Reservoir" in Prineville, Oregon. One of Indy's few waterside dining spots, Rick's has been drawing folks from all over since the mid 90's. Their huge outdoor patio makes summertime dining feel like a party atmosphere. My husband and I always have a wonderful time when we go to ricks ! It's like vacation at a seafood place but in Indiana! It over looks the eagle creek reservoir and sitting outside in the summer is one of our favs ! We had an excellent waitress who was very attentive . The parking is easy and reservations are accepted. We had the Rios dip and my husband had an entree that had grilled lobster, shrimp and salmon! I had the crab stuffed orange roughy- I believe this is the second time I have gotten this. Usually when I try something new, I say "this is my new favorite place", but this truly is one of my favorite places in Indy. We stopped by for brunch on a Sunday and it was a perfect day to eat on the patio. The view is amazing. The food was good too. They did fill up really quickly and there was a line as they opened, so I would suggest a reservation. This is a gorgeous resturant located right on Eagle Creek reservoir. The views are stunning from pretty much everywhere in the place. They have outdoor seating if the weather is nice and I can only imagine how those views would be! The resturant is stunning inside as well. I visited on a weekday around 5 and had reservations however it was not super busy upon my arrival. I would definitely recommend making reservations tho as it became very busy by the time I left. They have a wide variety of things on the menu but I do believe they are most known for their seafood. They also have a nice selection of signature cocktails as well as a full beer and wine menu. I opted for the peach Bellini martini and was not disappointed at all. It was delicious! My friend got the cranberry martini and she really enjoyed hers also. We started out with the crab cake hush puppies and they were pretty tasty. For my entree I chose the salmon roulade and had the coconut rice as a side. The salmon was so flavorful and delicious! The creamy spinach filling was amazing and I think I could have eaten an entire plate just of that! The rice was very flavorful as well. We came in because we were absolutely tired of Thanksgiving food and wanted to clear our pallets. The parking lot was packed so we were nervous that we'd have a wait. But.. the cars must have been for a private event upstairs because they were able to seat us right away. The drink menu was fairly new because our waiter was not able to recognize anything on it. We went on a whim and ordered two bourbon drinks. The peach bourbon smash and the evening honey. The peach bourbon was nice, flavorful, yet pretty strong still. However the evening honey tasted like just a shot of whiskey lol. It burned to sip. The vibes had us nervous to send it back so me and my gf switched drinks and I was stuck with it. Our appetizer came out fairly fast. And I couldn't believe these nachos were that bomb. That steak was seasoned so well and cooked perfectly. There was a good chip to protein ratio. And that queso and verde sauce was so authentic. Its like we stepped out to a taco truck in the middle of our dining. It was a hearty portion so we pretty much only ate 1/4. But now I know RICK KNOWS HOW TO COOK SOME STEAK. That's absolutely what I'm coming for next time. I ordered the salmon roulades. Even with the description I didn't know what to expect. When it turned out to be basically stuffed salmon pinwheels I was so pleased. When it comes to salmon I truly feel less is more and this was a very simple but enhanced dish. The contrast of the Mornay sauce definitely elevated it. Wish I could've had some with my mashed potatoes cause they were just a little dry. My girlfriend got the shrimp and scallop linguine. She enjoyed her dish but not nearly as much as I did. The snow peas in the description is was turned me away from ordering this over the roulades. She described it as one of the fancier marie callender frozen pastas. She was expecting a deeper flavor profile for the price but enjoyed the dish none the less. This location was 8 minutes away from our house this was only our first time coming together. We will be coming back. Me specifically for some steak.
