What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
There is no secret, really. However, there are usually several converging factors that really help. Great light, nice scenery, high quality cameras and lenses, and fancy software certainly help. However, much like cooking, having the right ingredients and a nice kitchen won't matter much if you don't know how to combine the ingredients or have the experience and knowledge to put it all together. It's a skill earned by LOTS of time and experience.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
The basics are always the date, the time, the location, the type of photography you need, and how much time you need someone to be there. From there we can estimate a basis for how to approach the shoot and a base cost. Additional options such as multiple photographers, albums, additional sessions such as an engagement shoot, and specific details can be addressed after that.
What do you love most about your job?
There is SO MUCH that I love about being a photographer. I love the flexibility. I can spend time with my family, travel, or work on personal projects to develop my skills as needed. I love the challenge of events because everything is constantly changing. The light changes throughout the day, moving from indoors to outdoors, creating natural looking poses, setting up lighting to get the best from a subject or scene, or even just getting a good photo of someone who hates taking photos. The most fulfilling part is knowing someone loves your work. It feels amazing to know you captured that perfect moment, and they shared it with the world to see, or they tell their friends, or send a nice thank you note. That's the BEST!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I love creating. I worked doing other things and all I could do was think about doing a shoot after work or over the weekend. If I wasn't shooting, I was drawing or painting, or building something. As a father, I wanted to do something that allowed me the time to enjoy raising my child. I was allowed the time to volunteer at school, be a baseball coach or Scout leader, and travel with my child. It was never about the money.
Why should our clients choose you?
Experience and flexibility are my strengths. That is a must have for events, no question. I can shoot a variety of styles and I mix them to offer a more complete story of your day. Also, I offer an amazing amount of value when you compare quality to cost. My rates are very competitive and well below the industry average. I'm offering very high quality at a lower price and you can't beat that.
