I was apart of the Red Water opening crew , Position - Server Assistant!!! It was my first time working In the Restaurant business and it was better than expected. ! Shelly and Kyle were pretty cool bosses to have in my circumference. The food is really good , im sure we can all agree with that! Management has a tendency to micro manage employees unnecessarily and the co workers can get irritable and toxic but that comes with the stress of the restaurant business ! Stopped by because of the high rating. We thought it was going to be pricey, but it was worth it! We got the Ahi sushi roll and it was delicious! Great service - we sat at the bar. What an outstanding restaurant! We ate as part of a group from the Big Island Jazz and Blues Festival, and were able to try many of the wonderful things on their menu. The poke was some of the best I have ever had, and I've eaten a LOT of poke! The lamb was delicious, the seared ahi was exceptional, the salads were all creative and super tasty. I can see why this place is so popular with the residents. Â A steak house and sushi place in one. Â I sat at the bar, ate dinner there and was treated very nicely by all of the staff. Â Next time you're in the area this place is a definite must. Â Go early or make reservations. Â Its gets crowded.Oh and did you see my picture of the best pork chop I've ever had? Â Besides it being a big chunk of meat, it was the most tender and juiciest pork chop I've ever had. Â It could've easily passed as a New York steak. Â The other thing about was the smokey grilled flavor of it. Â I told the manager it tasted like it had been cooked southern bbq style and he said oh yeah we have a big smoker out in the back. Came for dinner with another couple who are good friends. Ample parking on property, place is warm and cozy with quite a bit of exposed wood. Food and service was very good. She had the guava braised boneless shortrib and I tried the crispy skin sear salmon. Our friends had the same. Both entrees very good and delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. Be warned that this is easily the most expensive restaurant on the island. If you're trying to eat on a budget this is not the place to be. Other reviews mention reasonable for pricing but when appetizers start at 15 and go to 30 dollars and an average entree is 40 you are looking at the most expensive food on island. Now having complained about price if you're a foodie this is worth it because it's all about supporting local farms and farmers as well as giving you some of the best local food this island has to offer. This isnt as touristy as Jackie Reys or Manta but those two dont feature local food like this. More...

Wish we had saved this for our last night - or gone twice - best meal of the trip - and we ate twice at Mauna Kea including Manta.  We loved every course - so beautiful and so flavorful!! Our waiter Cheech was friendly and knowledgeable. We had duck pâté, the beet salad, day's catch - ono and mahi-mahi, and tempura fried apple bananas that I consider one of the best desserts I've ever had!! Yum!! We were on the far side of the restaurant and couldn't see the musicians- but we could hear them - fabulous too!! What a nice restaurant! Often a "farm to table" means high prices and tiny portions. Red Water Cafe has options for full or 1/2 portions--we were so full after splitting a beer salad and having our 1/2 entrees. The pork chop and rib eye steak were simply delicious.
