I found Justin after recouping from a biking-related back injury; his studio is in my neighborhood.  These past ~6 months  he's helped me correct my alignment asymmetries, recover from my injury safely, and build better core strength to prevent future injuries. I've been working with Justin for about 6 weeks to address muscle imbalance and compliment physical therapy as I was healing from a hip injury. I was SHOCKED at how effective this treatment is and learned so much from Justin about my muscle patterns. He helped me identify and then re-pattern the way that my body was compensating for weakness in certain muscle groups. And it happened incredibly quickly. Fun fact --> if you are lacking strength in your inner thighs, guess what? You neck muscles start to compensate, leading to back and neck pain. I learned that after years of wearing heels that my glutes, hamstrings, and inner thigh muscles had basically atrophied and were causing back and neck tension. I was in physical therapy for this for several months and it was only moderately addressed. I visited Justin several times and it was fully addressed. I'm now so much more aware of my posture, movements, and able to connect to my muscles. In addressing my hip injury, Redcord was an amazing complement that helped me to progress much more quickly. My spots medicine doctor and physical therapists were amazed with the rate of my recovery. All a long winded way of saying - do it. You're going to learn a ton about your habits and movement. I came to Rebalanced after a back injury that had me using a cane to get around. Getting in and out of a car was excruciating. The Redcord method, which involves hanging from an elaborate sling contraption that can be adjusted to exercise very specific muscles, has been a godsend for me. I saw improvement after the first session. After a few weeks I was able to stop taking a prescription NSAID that I had been on for many years. I graduated to a combination of Redcord and Pilates Reformer, which is also helpful. This regime has helped me with other issues/setbacks with my back, knees and neck. This is the ONLY place in the Bay Area where you can currently do Redcord. Justin is a fantastic practitioner-- professional, prompt, caring, and knows his stuff. I am not a person who ever spent much on my health outside of conventional medicine and chiropractic, but this has been so worth it. I now am able to get by with one session per 3-4 weeks. I might enroll separately in a group reformer class to supplement what I do with Justin. Can't recommend Rebalanced enough. More...

After finding him here on Yelp, I came to Justin with some lower back pain and a total imbalance on my left side. After about 4-5 sessions, my lower back pain is pretty much gone and I notice that, in going back to my Bikram yoga classes, I felt strength that was missing before my sessions with him. Justin is fun to work with, knowledgeable, flexible and always focused on listening to the body, assessing what it needs, and knowing what tweaks are required. I started seeing Justin because I have a spine and rib injury that's been causing me pain for the past year. Using redcord helped me strengthen weak muscles and improved my symptoms. I have been going to Justin every week for over a year now and he is THE BEST! He is caring, attentive, and very knowledgeable about how the body works. I could barely walk when I started with Justin due to a couple disc herniations. He immediately helped activate other parts of my body to take the burden off my back, and I was back to walking in no time! I now come to Justin weekly for what we jokingly refer to as "prehab," because I spend a lot of time sitting at desks and on planes for work. There are other appointments that I will skip when I'm busy, but I attend my weekly session with Justin religiously. He knows how to balance the body and with his help, you will be in the best shape of your life! Also, he's a delight to spend time with - the hour flies by and I don't even notice that I'm doing the Redcord version of the dreaded squat! I LOVE working with Justin!  I came here to help with scoliosis and some injuries after a car accident.  Justin has been so helpful in bringing back connection to deep muscles that can feel impossible to get to especially the deep neck flexors that often get weak from whiplash injuries.  Within a few sessions I already feel so much better!  It is amazing, he works on helping the brain connect and repattern movements that have been altered for various reasons.  The bonus is I always look forward to coming here because Justin makes the experience fun and worthwhile.  His genuine passion and knowledge and enthusiasm are awesome because you can feel he is also into it!   He does a great job of identifying what to work on so that the sessions are productive.  He also works hard in the session to make sure that each movement is applicable to the individual.  He genuinely cares - I highly recommend him for anyone who is in pain up to the athlete who wants to improve their performance.  The money you spend is worth the feeling of having your body feel better and stronger.  I can tell you that I have as a bonus seen BIG improvements in my own workouts as well (and I push myself and do things like pull-ups and pistol squats).  He unlocks the areas that are restricting free & strong movement.  The exercises are endless and you will LOVE working with Justin! Justin is a fantastic healer and practitioner.  I had (HAD) lower back problems for over seven years.  Nothing worked and it was really impacting my life.  Justin and I have worked together weekly and my back, core and my overall physical strength has improved greatly.Each session is personalized to where you are with your body that day.  He pushes you just enough to build up the strength you need to be healthy.  I have recommended him to many friends and my spouse!  Today I noticed the absence of pain and realized just how far I have come from daily chronic limiting pain.  Yay for Justin and the Record system. I had the pleasure of booking a session while I was down in SF on vacation, and I can't sing Justin's praises loud enough! I have horrendous scoliosis, which comes with a perpetually tight lower back and shoulders that are usually overcompensating, but Justin's training/guidance through the Redcord movements is so gentle and clear. I was honestly taken aback at how quickly he was able to tune in to the areas that needed immediate attention. Wish I could give extra 5 stars to Justin! I started working with Justin after finding out I have a herniated disc in my lower back. I went to multiple physical therapy sessions, did exercises doctors recommended me to do and got acupuncture, and nothing seemed to improve back pain permanently... until I met Justin and Redcord! I had zero core strength, and my body was completely out of shape, but after two months of Redcord + reformer sessions, my back pain is gone, and I feel so much stronger. I started training with Justin a year ago to strengthen my core muscles and improve my posture after an injury. I know that Pilates is helpful for back pain. I was also introduced to Redcord training working with Justin which was a great way to compliment Pilates reformer work. He designed an exercise program that helped me find the deep core stabilizing muscles I was having trouble isolating on while exercising on my own. After strengthening the core I was able to focus on my legs and arms also for fully integrated body conditioning. I felt a difference in my body within a month. I am now moving pain free and focusing on strength training. He is easy to work with, flexible and open minded. If I could give Justin 6 stars, I would. He's that good. I started working with him 2 months ago because I have a L5/S1 disc herniation with radiating sciatic pain down my leg. I had done Physical Therapy, Acupuncture, 3 steroid injections and a whole lot of sitting around before I found Justin and discovered the virtues of Red Cord. I wasn't able to walk more than a block without squatting down to make the pain go away. In short, I was seriously contemplating starting a very serious medication and potentially doing surgery. In just 10 sessions with Justin I've turned a corner. He patiently diagnosed me and I started seeing results after the 1st session. He has carefully built a regimen to gradually retrain me to walk and reposition my pelvic tilt by strengthening my core, glutes, hamstrings and adductors through the magic of Red Cord (and I believe it is truly magical). On top of that, he is a wonderful, generous human, and has given me confidence that there is truly a light at the end of the tunnel. This weekend, I walked my dog around Bernal Heights Hill, something I didn't appreciate 6 months ago. I truly have Justin to thank. Now that we are moving out of the pain room, I'm going to continue training with him to improve my posture and strengthen my core. I am so grateful that I found him and believe that working with him is both magical and a pure joy. Do yourself a favor and take the plunge with Justin and Red Cord. You won't regret it! More...

When I was first injured, I wished I had a magic pill that I could take to make it all go away. I didn't find my magic pill, but I did find Justin who came pretty close. After a year of disc issues in my back and a subsequent SI injury/ very limited mobility, I found Justin online. He thoughtfully listened to my situation and assessed weaknesses in my body. I previously went to other specialists or PTs and none of them were as thorough / insightful as Justin. Justin's entire approach is integration of the entire body, a key element in solving back and hip issues. Since I had not been able to walk much for many months, we had a ways to go in order to build me back up. However, I can say that after about 7 weeks with Justin, I have over double the endurance I had and feel about 65% better. If it weren't for Justin, I wouldn't be able to take light weekend hikes and walk to work in the morning. So, unfortunately, there is no miracle insta-pill for injuries, but there are miracle-workers. I highly recommend Justin for anyone in recovery or who is just trying to get better results in their workouts. More...

Justin is great! When I first started I could barley walk and within the first two sessions I immediately saw improvements. I have a bulged disc that is causing sciatic pain (its been 7 months now). I didn't think it was possible that I would see such a HUGE difference in just a few training sessions with Justin. Redcord- a Pilates based training- has alleviated my back pain and increased my core strength and overall strength tremendously. I absolutely LOVE my Redcord training sessions with Justin – so happy it's now a part of my weekly workouts. I'd tried Pilates reformer classes before, and liked isolating muscle groups and working on my balance – but I felt sometimes like my core wasn't always strong enough to actually get the most out of some of the workouts. So when I found out about Redcord suspension training, I was curious about trying it to see if I could better understand how my other muscles compensate for each other, and to improve my core strength (Justin's Redcord studio is located at Custom Fit, where I was already doing personal training). After six sessions, I really truly feel a difference in my body – and the sessions are A LOT of fun!! Justin has helped me discover imbalances in my body, and has helped me correct those movements. For example, we discovered that I'd often lean toward the left side of my body – and I'm a lot more even now. I'm also thrilled that I now understand how much my lower back was compensating for my abs before – and now my core is a ton stronger and I feel I have that *mind body connection* with my core, for the first time! I work at a computer most of the day, and have noticed that since starting Redcord sessions, I don't have the dull back pain/discomfort that would start toward the afternoon. AND I feel like my posture is a lot better now – and that I'm standing taller with my shoulders back, just naturally as a result. I highly recommend trying Redcord suspension training – for anyone at any athletic level. i’ve been seeing Justin for a few years now and my back and body are so much better. Just had a great Pilates session and my biceps and abs are sore (in a good way)! I used to get dizzy and nauseous on the reformer but that is gone! he’s patiently helped me get over my fear of falling off that machine (because I have done that before) and his Springboard core sessions are challenging. i have learned so much about my body and how neuromuscular activation helps alleviate pain. Justin is a fantastic personal trainer for both pilates and redcord! I've been working out with him for only a few months and have already started to notice big improvements in my strength, posture, and alignment. (Noticeable core definition too!) He always has a variety of different types of pilates workouts and stretches that will have you leaving the gym with a huge endorphin rush. I've also had a few shoulder, back, and hip problems, (which I mention before my session), and Justin has immediately helped target those areas—allowing me to feel significantly better after the pilates or redcord training. As a chiropractor, I often seek out new new ways to assist the healing process - as both education for myself and as a benefit for my patients. Being an athlete and avid weightlifter myself I also have had my fair share of aches and pains. Most recently a core muscle injury I've been able to rehab back to about 90%. With Justin's unique approach and thoughtful assessment we were quickly able to identify additional underlying imbalances. My body was all out of balance. That became very apparent when, after too many years of sitting in an office chair, I seriously injured my hip flexors, while playing soccer. My hip flexors have a tendency to kick in and overcompensate for my weaker muscles, so Justin is helping me strengthen all of the smaller, neglected muscles. I religiously go to Justin's pilates classes at Body Chemistry Studio and he's basically the reason I have a membership there. His classes are well-balanced and simultaneously therapeutic but challenging. He pays close attention to everyone's form and has an amazing intuition for little adjustments each person should make for their own bodies. After many years of neglecting to workout due to a demanding full time job and a preschooler, I decided to get personal training sessions from Justin. Justin is a very thoughtful instructor and creates custom training sessions for my body type. They are focussed on building overall strength but with a focus on improving my core, my posture, working out my weaker side to bring alignment and to breathe better. His classes and tips help me breathe better the rest of the day, instead of the shallow breathing that I normally do. He is very adept at giving detailed instructions for each exercise which makes a big difference in the class. He makes sure my weaker side gets a few extra reps, is always mindful of how I am progressing and creates a clear plan to build strength and alignment. And, above all the classes are challenging and fun, I always look forward to the next session. More...

Back in September of 2013 I injured my right knee terribly. Doctor's diagnosis ranged from torn meniscus to chondromalacia patella. Regardless, I went from working out 5-6 days a week to zero. As someone who has worked in the fitness industry for over 10 years, this was an average person's equivalent of not being able to brush your teeth for 8 months. It was depressing and immeasurably frustrating to watch my weight plummet along with my spirits.

Upon a recommendation from a friend, I visited Justin at Rebalanced SF. I'll admit I was skeptical at first. I come from a heavy lifting gym background and didn't know how these slings and pulleys were going to help my knee, but I was literally at the end of my rope.

Justin thoroughly questioned me regarding my symptoms and was meticulous when observing how my body responded when I was suspended by the redcords. Through his skillful teaching I was able to get the rest of my body to do the work while my bad knee was supported. This kept me from exacerbating my injury and gave me a great workout as well.

Justin put me at ease and sessions with him have restored my knee to the point where I am back in the gym consistently with no pain. I also have an added education about this field of fitness and can not thank him enough for giving me my regular life back.
Do not hesitate to visit him. Do not be intimidated by the apparatus. He and his knowledge of Redcord can improve your health, help you get over a plateau or just plain help you feel better about yourself!

I've been with Justin for over 1-1/2 years. No more taking advil every 6 hours! I swear, I've only had 2 headaches in the last year. My doc originally thought I had herniated disks in my back, but Kaiser won't do a MRI unless I tried physical therapy, I went since it's covered, but it was completely useless. I've been working with Justin for just a little over a month with RedCord. I've been looking for a trainer and program that can help my very special needs that comes with disabilities. Really helped me with balanced strengthening to resolve back pain using really focused Pilates exercises. I went to Justin because I tore my MCL and wanted to get my left half of my body stronger to make up for all the lack of exercise over the last few months. I wanted my whole body to be strong, not just the right side ;). It only took him a few minutes to figure out exactly what my body needed to get balanced again. I've been working with Rebalanced SF for a couple of years now, and I should start by frankly admitting I am useless as a client. I don't do the homework with the spiky ball, I don't always eat as well as I could, I occasionally consume more alcohol units than would be strictly recommended for, say, endurance training. I came to Rebalanced to help prepare me for my yearly SF->LA bike trip, which was getting progressively sketchier as my years advanced and my training didn't.

With his knowledge of human anatomy and physiology Justin was able to quickly target imbalances in my body, with impressive improvements to my cycling efficiency and recovery after each ride. The mix of record and pilates he brings to the table has worked very well for me in improving flexibility, strength and especially targeting my weak points. I recommend giving rebalanced a try.

I've been training w/ Justin for about 6 months to assist in low back pain and tightness of the hips. I shopped around a bunch of SF based companies and found that Justin's knowledge surpassed all. Redcord is innovative and targets muscle imbalances in a unique way to build strength where you need it most. I've been a lifelong athlete and have learned so much about my body habits since working w/ Justin. I found that my dominant muscles are over working and inhibiting weaker muscle from firing, perpetrating poor form and pain. Happy to see results already. I truly trust him. I have worked with Justin on and off in the past year at another studio (Body Chemistry Studio) , and I absolutely love his approach! He is so attuned and gentle, yet challenging, in his teaching. His sense of humor also definitely helps in the process and makes his classes more fun! And the most important part: I feel really good after his workouts, in my mind and body. I live for the feedback I get back from my clients who come back to tell me they are feeling stronger and no longer in pain. It is the most satisfying part of my job. The tools I use are unique and results are astounding.

In 2000 I was pursuing a successful career in advertising in San Francisco. Committed to my work, I would spend prolonged periods of time sitting at my desk. The 10-hour days with poor posture began to take their toll and I noticed I was experiencing lower back pain. Before long the pain had developed from a nagging ache to becoming excruciating and preventing me from carrying out normal daily activities. In my quest for answers and healing, I discovered Pilates and on a trip to Europe, the Redcord system. This was a perfect compliment to my workout routine that helped me heal from my repetitive stress injury due to prolonged sitting and get strong and healthy again. In 2011 I was so inspired that I made the difficult decision to leave my successful career in advertising and to form rebalanced SF. As the first Northern California Redcord trainer, I offer unrivaled knowledge and experience in Redcord and Pilates personal and small group training in San Francisco.

I am the only trainer in Northern California to combine Pilates and Redcord training together.
