Let's start by the food tasted amazing!!! We had the fig salad and ochietta pasta which were both amazing and I'd order them both again. Both main dishes came with a choice of salad or soup, but our waiter automatically discounted our salad and used it as our choice when we would have added the soup had he not made the decision for us. At the entrance of the restaurant, there is a beautiful cut glass chandelier and a vase of fresh flowers. We were seated quickly, without reservations, on a Tuesday evening. Our server was knowledgeable and pleasant without being obtrusive. She provided an accurate description of the wine choices and asked if we had any dietary restrictions. When I mentioned that my spouse doesn't eat red meat, she immediately informed us that a dish with chorizo listed as an ingredient could be altered. The food was excellent, well-seasoned, but allowing the natural flavors of the seafood to prevail. Locally sourced ingredients were prominent. Took my family out for dinner. With an 85 year old grandma who hates to spend money she was able to find something she really enjoyed. She got the Mac n cheese and ate the whole thing! We had fish stew, lamb meatballs, and the beef shoulder. Everything was amazing. The portions were decent but tasted so good we all wanted more. The cocktails were also amazing. We ordered dessert the vanilla parfait, bread pudding, and gf cherry cheesecake. The cheesecake was disappointing as it didn’t have a crust and was super thin. Very very good food! I have been here twice now and both times have been excellent! The service is perfect and the food is amazing. They don't have a kids menu but both times we went they were very accommodating and made my five year old a more kid friendly dish that wasn't on the menu More...

We are mostly vegetarians so the selection was a bit limited but the server was very knowledgeable about the food and was able to ask the chef to leave out chicken broth in the recipe so we could have it. The desert was one of the best I have ever eaten, a cream cheese tart with a blackberry port reduction and candied walnuts. First response, WOW! Ambiance is great from the first step through the door. Drinks & wine are superb, food is so carefully cultivated to meet every single one of your expectations! We stopped here on a whim before seeing a concert in town, we got really lucky! Great service can go a long way, but tonight it was the cherry on top of an already joyous experience. Simply the best dinner in Salem. I’ve been to Rafn’s a half dozen of times over the last several years, with my wife and friends and even bringing family from out of town. Simply put, this is the pinnacle of fine dining in Salem. Rafn’s is operated by a husband and wife, with Nate cooking in back and Rochelle making you feel welcome up front. Every time we come in, it feels like waking into a friends home or kitchen for a visit and amazing meal. This is hands down our favorite restaurant. My lovely bride and I have been going here for a few years and they are unbelievably consistent! Every one from the wait staff to the head chef care deeply about their customer's experience. My wife always gets the Fig and Filbert salad. The sweetness of the fig paired with the rich tannic of the Filbert is always delicious. She is a bit picky with her lettuce (we are pretty serious gardeners and we eat a lot of very fresh greens) and she has never once found a soggy leaf!I love the poached chicken. Yeah, I don't really know what made me get it the first time but it is incredible. The chicken has a sweet richness that is reminiscent of Belgium waffles. Almost a custardy flavor/consistency. Just take my word that it is really good!Their soups are just wonderful. I have heard tales about the chicken bone broth taking multiple days to simmer down. Again, the care is very apparent with every one of their soups. We frequently will get a quart or two to go home with us.Thank you to everyone at Rafn's for taking care of us!
