Super awesome service and atmosphere!  Excellent authentic South American fine dining plus amazing margaritas!  Beef tacos, salmon Ceasar salad and chicken taquitos plus chips salsa are my favorites!

Best food in McMinnville--or maybe ANYWHEREI ate here for the first time Aug 2020 while helping my daughter move into her college dorm in town. She told me we had to eat at Pura Vida because it was the best food she'd had in McMinnville. She was right! I had the barbacoa tacos and they were amazing. If I didn't live in CA, I'd eat here at least once a week. My daughter had the empanadas and they were equally delicious. I've been trying to replicate their amazing pickled onions to no avail--will have to wait for my next trip to McMinnville. Also, the service was fantastic. Did carry out on an early Saturday evening.  You can't call in your order; need to order online and they'll assign you the next available time slot for pickup, or pick a later time if you want.  Very festive on 3rd Street, with the road closed and the outdoor patios extending into the street.  The restaurant was doing a nice job with social distancing.  Staff was very attentive and efficient.  Order was ready at the stated time.  Packaged very thoughtfully.  We ordered the plantains, braised pork empanadas, chicken taquitos, chips and salsa and paella.  Very nice portions.  The braised pork seemed a little dry, but otherwise everything was outstanding. Food is excellent. Service is mediocre at best. During this time I'd prefer not to ding a small business but the staff's lack of personal responsibitily has to be addressed. When the food (all taco plates) was brought to the table the server/food runner gave the wrong descriptions of what was being dropped resulting in each of us claiming the wrong plate. The server also forgot to place two of our orders so two of us were left without food (we ended up cancelling one of them). When I went to the bar to ask for a manager, the bartender cut me off and said "well, if you claim the plate being called out it's not the server's fault". Not if they give the wrong description of what's on the plate. When I told her he forgot to place two of there orders, she rudely said "he's bringing out their food right now" Yes, he was, 20 minutes after everyone else had theirs. The server blamed the food runner for the mix-up of the plates. They did say they wouldn't charge us for the cancelled food (no kidding) and a small 10% discount overall. A small recovery for the rude treatment from the bartender. They all need to realize it doesn't matter who screwed up as a team everyone needs to take responsibility for the guests experience. Pura Vida is a family owned business in downtown McMinnville.  The food is fresh and authentic and the staff is very friendly.  I highly recommend them!  Today (Saturday) I placed a very large online order intended for Monday, but the pick up date ended up showing as today.  They called me when I didn't arrive to pick up the food and of course I felt terrible! They said not to worry, that they would donate the whole order to the homeless.  What a wonderful family business! Please give them a try! More...

We came for dinner with friends last night. At this point we've probably had everything on the menu, and everything is freshly prepared and delicious. Service is quick and friendly, it's a really enjoyable place to dine. And McMinnville has closed Third St to auto traffic so that the restaurants can utilize the street for outside seating, brilliant! My husband and I went to the Oregon wine country for our anniversary ...ended up in McMinnville for some wine tasting... a local recommended this wonderful little place ...we loved the food!  We had an absolutely charming young man wait on us by the name of Noah ;). Came with an expectation of great food. Left unsure that it was great.   Tasteless chips served with mashed  black beans, a light  green sauce with too much citrus, and a very runny "guacamole. "  Ribs were good and tender but nothing to rave about. The pork empanadas were dry although the slaw enhanced the flavor. The paella wasn't bad, but nothing to rave about.  Chicken was quite dry.  Tiny bits of sausage with little clams and shrimp.  Rice was good.Dessert consisted of a vanilla/orange flan and churros. The flan had a few lumps but good. The churros were warm and light but served with a very runny (see the trend here?) chocolate sauce that had the consistency of chocolate milk vs a dipping sauce. The food is phenomenal but unfortunately the service is terrible, which I had encountered before over the summer (never eat outside of their restaurant. They'll forget you're dining out there.) Somehow the waitress never "put in" my order despite taking my order first in our group of 4, and by the time it did come out everyone at the table was done eating. Asked for a refill on water and again she forgot. I had to remind the waitress after waiting for 20 mins for the water. The young man who also brought out our food asked if we needed anything else and when we asked for an extra plate it never came. Pura Vida combines some of the best of Central & Latin American flavors, beloved dishes (coquets), textures and Tico fusions. Meeting for lunch, we started with chips that come with signature dips and fried avocado salad. Fried avocado, anything else to say? It's so good, I order it everytime. And as a vegan, they can make almost anything non dairy as long as you ask them in advance.
