Positive Pets Dog Training

I got a puppy in August and knew I wanted him off leash trained. We started puppy kindergarten at 10 weeks and just finished day-train classes. I am amazed every week at the progress we make. My dog is 5 months old and it better trained than any dog I’ve ever owned. Sarah was our trainer for both classes and I would recommend her to anyone. Sarah always made it clear what we were supposed to do and made it easy for us to follow instructions at home. Talk about value for the dollar. We initially met with Positive Pets in our consultation for puppy training but when a family vacation coincided we ended up doing the immersion training with boarding. While we were gone we got some beautiful photos and even a couple of videos of our pup learning some great basic commands that we hadn't mastered in our self instruction at home. After returning home there was an in depth meeting to cover the training our fur baby had while we were away. Included in the package we get ongoing training. We had private classes where I learned to be consistent and understand how dogs learn. After completing the private classes we went to a group beginners class where we covered things like heal, sit, stay and place (where you can ask your dog to be when, for example, someone comes to the door so your dog isn't vying for the door as someone comes in). We are now in the advanced distraction training where we are learning how to heal off leash, she can obey commands when I'm not right next to her, return to me when I call her, lay under my legs when I'm at an outside dining experience and not be distracted by other dogs or surroundings. We have had some wonderful and patient trainers. My favorites have been Britta and Taz. We are still in a group class and when we are done with this class we might do the tricks class. Our other classmates are wonderful and off the bat we have something in common, we love our dogs. You do need to practice at home, there is no "miracle" that is going to have your dog obeying like Lassie (if you're old enough to know who that is) without practicing. The trainers are genuinely caring and help with on the spot corrections. They ask for and answer questions during every session. I even texted Taz after our darling pup chewed the banisters and baseboards in our home after being unattended at home for a couple of hours. She went above and beyond by texting me back, letting me know we had done the right thing by not punishing our sassy pup (because she wouldn't have understood the reason for the punishment), gave us some ideas to implement at home and has even followed up with me about our battle of the wills at home. Yes, it feels expensive up front but I cannot stress what a value you get from that investment. I cannot believe how much we have gotten from our weekly trainings and the payoff it has had in our family and our home. If you were to pay for each class anywhere separately, I shutter to think how much it would be. There is even the option of going to the Saturday class in Boise if you're schedule allows for formal training twice a week. And you can tell how much the people care from the people at the desk to the trainers and their hard work in all their classes. This place is amazing. More...

My wife and I love the staff at Positive Pets Dog Training. As a business owner myself I truly appreciate outstanding customer service. From our first call speaking with Angie we could literally hear her smile on the phone. We have worked with 3 different trainers at Positive Pets. Sarah, Britta and Donny. Each one blessed with the passion for their jobs and an extreme love of animals. You can really tell this family run business is truly CLIENT FOCUSED. While it was more expensive than others we checked out, the result was well worth it. We did the Immersion program with 2 of our dogs Heidi and Iva and the day train program with our 3rd dog. We highly recommend spending the extra money and training with Positive Pets. Your Pets would choose them if they could talk. We took our 2 year old German Shepard to the Boise training facility and had private lessons with Sarah. The results were amazing. Prior to the training we had a dog who could not be around other dogs or people as she would bark, growl and lunge. After the training, she ignores other dogs and is very accepting of family and friends in our home, in addition to obeying all commands without question. Our experience at Positive Pets was fantastic! When we took Storm in for her first private lesson I was pretty sure it would be a disaster. We had worked with her on our own and she knew commands, she just didn’t want to do them most of the time. Recall was a big problem for her. She also didn’t like new people or places so every new experience was a challenge. By the end of training she was confident, we were confident and she has become a treasured family pet! Wow! I am blown away by how great our experience has been with Positive Pets in Boise so far. We have had only 3 private lessons with Sarah so far, she is incredible. Her knowledge for dog training is very apparent and appreciated. She is great at explaining to us humans what we need to know to best communicate with our dog. She gives examples and explains things in a way that is applicable to several aspects of dog training, not just the task at hand. After only two sessions we saw MASSIVE improvement in our one-and-a-half-year-old yellow lab. She typically has crazy anxiety in the car, and it has lessened significantly, she didn’t make a single noise the last trip in! I cannot wait to see how different my dog is after all the training lessons and classes, it seems unbelievable the change we’ve seen already! We can’t say enough good things about our experience with positive pets. We have a 2 year old, 140 pound Great Dane named Rupert. Rupert is a sweetheart, but he has always been a bit impulsive, and a bit too friendly with other dogs. As a result, he had several bad experiences as a puppy. Most dogs aren’t fond of a 100 pound monster charging towards them excitedly. We started to notice he was becoming reactive to other dogs when he was around a year old. I couldn’t walk him by myself anymore because he would pull non-stop and bark every time we saw another dog. We knew his behavior wasn’t sustainable, and it wasn’t fair for us or him to continue this way. We wanted a dog that we could trust to enjoy activities with us like going to parks, breweries, camping, etc. We weren’t okay with leaving him in his kennel every time we left the house, especially considering how much Danes love to be with their people. Enter positive pets. We signed up for the 5 week day train program with high hopes, but guarded optimism. We dropped Rupert off one day a week to work with Sarah and then followed up with our homework on our off days. After the first week, it was amazing to see how much progress Rupert had made. The best part for me was seeing how much fun he was having when we went to pick him up. Positive Pets found his “love language” (play, tug, and affection) and they used it to their advantage. After completing the 5 week program, we felt like the biggest takeaway for us was that now we had a shared language with our dog. He wanted so badly to please us before the program, he just didn’t know what we wanted from him. Now we can take Rupert with us anywhere we go. We can’t control the environment, but we feel confident in knowing that no matter the situation, we know how to support our dog and help him be successful. We constantly get compliments on how well behaved and sweet our boy is now. He truly is an ambassador for his breed, which makes us so proud! Positive Pets was a life saver for us, and more than anything, they taught us how to help our dog to be successful.It also helps that you can tell how much every trainer loves dogs, and how happy they are to see Rupert walk through the door. Positive pets has several different programs. I chose to train the dog myself and with the help of the dog trainers there. Devin and Donny are the best. We are training my English lab to be my service dog. You have to listen to the trainers, and do it exactly the way they say to do it each and every time. They do a great job. I know someone who brought their dog to positive pets for intensive training, which meant they left the dog there for several weeks. They brought the dog home, however they were not using the commands the dog was taught. They never worked with the dog work with the dog after they picked him up from training. So, he has no idea what the owners are talkin about and does not behave properly. More...

We have worked with positive pets now through Puppy Preschool with Britta and private training with Taz at the Meridian location for our dog Baloo. We have also just started Puppy Preschool with Sarah, in Boise. Honestly each trainer brings something a little different to the table and we have loved working with all of them as they have pushed us as owners. We have had many dogs before and all have been well behaved but this training takes it to the next level. For example our 6 month old Newfie will sit in place for over an hour and will hold it even if you throw treats on the ground are playing with a ball and so on. I highly recommend them but a quick tip from one dog owner to another, if you do not put in the work on your end it does not matter that they are outstanding trainers. Taking our Husky to Positive Pets was one of the best things we could’ve done, for her and ourselves. We have been told, since we got her, how difficult it is to train Huskies. I can't begin to explain how wonderful positive pets dog training is, Donny especially!
