They do one thing and they do it well. Best chicken around. Spicy is too much for me but I know folks who say they are addicted. Toasted raviolis are very good too.  The hamburger are more like "chicken fried steak" on a bun.  They are interestingly good.I don't get cravings like I do for the TR's or the chicken.The service is the best.  Good people, especially the older gal. One of the best fried chicken that I had! The place is small and has this old school vibe where you can tell then can update the interior, but that doesn't really matter. What's nice about this place is that you can order fried chicken by the bucket. You can also customize it with either just white or dark meat and also what kind of pieces you desire (just pay slightly more for that option). You also have the option of ordering regular or spicy...I recommend the spicy as it has the perfect amount and is definitely not too spicy but has the right amount of kick to it. The chicken itself has a nice texture on the exterior and is not too oily at all. The inside is super moist and you can taste the freshness of it. They also have some of their house made spicy sauce (kinda like Frank's hot sauce) that goes well with it. We also ordered some fried mushrooms- delicious, fried gizzards and liver - first time for me, but pretty crunchy and tasty (definitely not for everyone), mashed potatoes and gravy - also delicious, as the gravy was very flavorful. What you see is what you get here. Very unassuming place that pushes out really nice soybean fried chicken. The plates come standard with a side of coleslaw and mashed potatoes and a small bread roll. ASK for extra gravy as the mashed potatoes are better with more gravy than they give you! Their hot sauce there is totally delicious. It's a brand I've never seen before, "Cajun chef" I believe it's called. You can pick up a bottle from them for about a buck fifty. Counter-service fried chicken spot with a tiny dining area attached. Also have fried fish & shrimp. Chicken comes with mashed potatoes, a roll, and coleslaw. Choice of amount of fried chicken. Choice to get "special" fried chicken which is breasts instead of/in addition to wings or thighs. I got the 2 piece special and it was very solid and had a lot of meat on it. Just good old fashioned fried chicken.  Meat was juicy, the breading was the bomb!  Coleslaw was solid, gravy was velvety and had great flavor.  The bun was soft and tasty.  Best part were the staff.  The girl working was great with the customers.  She was very knowledgeable and never appeared annoyed at the random questions thrown at her! I had a craving for Fried Chicken and Yelped for something in or near the city.  Porters was an Outstanding choice.  This quaint location only seats 24 folks but has a menu that is really extensive. I'm psyched that they also have Cod, Shrimp and Catfish for this Lenten Season too for another trip to try the menu.  This has a super takeout business. Saw a few hundred piece wing orders come thru that were whole wings and not just tiny  wings.  Lastly, saw they had spicy fried chicken too that takes an extra fifteen minutes. Interested in that too.  No beer or wine served so only a four but a solid, bold four for the tastiness of perfectly moist, fried chicken that's not overdone. Definitely cooked perfectly by experts. I love fried chicken. The crispy skin, juicy meat, not great for you but when done well is difficult to beat. That is what I love & Porter's does it right! An added bonus, its inexpensive and you get a lot for your money. If you're on Big Bend, north of I-44 and south of Hwy 100 (about halfway) and are looking for good eats...give Porter's a whirl. Wanting some great chicken at an even better price? That place is here! I'm so surprised at how good is was. Nice and juicy chicken. Good size pieces. Bought the catfish nuggets too, well because I've never had them before. Plenty big. They were about the size of my palm. So more like fillets then nuggets, but oh so yummy! I couldn't pass up getting the okra. The portion was so about three people. Lol. Sad to say I ate them all myself. Way too good to share!  Very large menu. Lots of choices. Best to call ahead. Will do next time. This place is small, way small! But great service. Friendly staff. Nice and clean. You open your car door and can smell the great food. Really good fried chicken at an excellent price. Loved the coating and flavor without it being super greasy. The crinkle fried were good, but could use an extra minute in the fryer. The fried cod was delicious and left me wanting more. The lady at the counter says after every order.."with mashed potatoes and coke slaw"? She does it so fast you kind of say yes, without thinking. I stopped and said no, and ordered fries which seemed to perturb her. The mashed potatoes that we did get was the only disappointment, as they tasted like instant. I drive by this place everyday and I had no idea that this unassuming place next to a laundromat serves such fantastic fried chicken! I am kind of new to STL so I guess I can be forgiven for that. First things first, if you don't want to wait, call ahead and set a time to pick your order. You can call a couple hours or a day ahead of you need to. This is a small place with like 4 tables and not many servers. You can also get specific pieces if you want, for a small extra fee. Since this is my first visit, I didn't really get to try everything. I got a bucket of spicy fried chicken. It was the bomb!! Well most of it was , one piece was big and dry and I didn't really want to eat the chicken. I did however lick the breading clean off!!I also got the fried okra. Crispy crunchy perfection!! This place is amazing I been look for a nice spicey fried chicken place since churches has let me down and never has anything , so I tried Porter's and it's fresh cooked and flavor is on point and the heat is grrrreat, only prob I have is that I wish it was closer to me , but the trip is worth it , will be back soon and often.

Ok your in the mood for some good spicy or regular fried chicken and don't want the typical stuff out there. Well this place delivers on flavor and taste and even though it's not much to look at (a dive) that is done with me! Dives often deliver and this one is no exception. I would recommend calling in your order ahead to avoid a long wait. I ordered a 2 pc chicken dinner and opted for 2 spicy breasts and  2 sides of cole slaw instead of mashed potatoes. The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. 100 Delicious! I also ordered the spicy fried chicken Livers, not the meal and again was amazed at the flavor and heat that came thru in each bite! Well done Porters! The side are pretty standard and nothing to write home about but that being said you are really here for the chicken the star of the show and anything else they fry is likely to be just as tasty and delicious. Ended up here by accident after learning the pool hall next door didn't serve food. Ate the cod sandwich with breaded mushrooms as a side. The sandwich seemed fresh and served hot. Customer service was great! And it was quick. I got six wings with three jumbo shrimp everything was fresh and hot! I've seen some peculiar reviews here. Anyone who postures that he'll go to KFC over Porter's is letting you know he has issues. BECAUSE Porter's is the best of its kind in the metro area. And I've tried just about all of the comparable spots. Spare and no-nonsense, I get delicious, juicy chicken every time. The slaw is very good, among the selections. Went today on a whim. We were on our way home and realized we were on the road the Porter's in on. There was a bit of a line, which I consider a good sign. We ordered an 8 piece bucket, pint of cole slaw, pint of potato salad, fried okra, an individual size of mashed potatoes, and gizzards all coming to $30.05 before a TIP. Fried chicken is one of those meals that are easy to make, but also easy to F'up. For example, too much breading, not enough breading, too greasy, too crunchy, you get the point. But Porters Fried Chicken, a family-owned restaurant, nailed it with their tasty fried chicken. They have been using the same recipe for over 30 years.This place is primarily a grab-and-go establishment, but they do have a couple of chairs and tables for dine-in. Big groups (5 or more) will probably have a tough time finding somewhere to sit.First impression of the food was a good one. It came in a Styrofoam box wrapped inside a brown paper bag. That's exactly how ol' school homemade-style fried chicken should be served. When it comes to the chicken I have one major tip- GET IT SPICY! The difference in taste between the plain and spicy is like the difference between a coke zero and a regular coke or between sweet n' low and cane sugar.  The wings I ordered was plain and tasted just like that-plain. It had a nice crisp skin and juicy inside but, I didn't taste too much flavor. However, the spicy.. the spicy chicken tasted award winning. The seasoning on the skin wasn't burn-your-mouth spicy but, had enough kick to it and tasted fantastic. I now understand why everyone ahead of me was ordering their food spicy. Also sold here are fish (i.e. cod, catfish, etc.) and shrimp as well as desserts such as, banana pudding, pecan pie, potato salad, and more.This is a positive and negative at the same time but, because the food is made fresh to order it takes awhile to get your food especially if you order it spicy. I don't know what special process they use for the spicy chicken but, it seems to take double as long to cook than the plain. But the cool thing is you can call ahead and place orders for pick up at a later time. For example, you could call on a Sunday morning to have a bucket of chicken be picked up at 3 p.m that afternoon or some other random time the next day-very convenient if you ask me.Although the look of this place doesn't WOW you, I would highly recommend to anyone searching for some good ol' school style fried chicken. Just the best.  Fried chicken sure, but don't miss corn fritters, chicken tenders, chicken livers, and fried catfish. Chicken tenders are thick and moist with a crispy crust.  Corn fritters with corn kernels and great seasoning are better than fries with some perfect fried chicken.  Chicken livers are fresh an tender and only Hodaks might be better.  Fried catfish are large and mild filets for a great alternative to chicken.  Call ahead for faster service. Great chicken and awesome service. I once made a pick up order about 20 minutes before closing time and I asked the lady on the phone if it was any trouble, she insisted on me coming in and assured me it was no problem at all. The potato salad is really good, and so are the rolls. My only complaint goes towards the crinkly fries. They aren't salty at all, and I desperately wish these fries improved because I can't enjoy many foods without fries on the side. First time here. Hard to find parking so I sent my husband in and waited in the car at the gas station next door. But not a long wait - quick service. When we got home we enjoyed some delicious fried chicken. I'm not a big mashed potatoes fan and these were only fair, but the slaw was pretty tasty and the roll adequate. The price was great.
