My Yorkshire Polly went to the Pooches for the first time today to be groomed. She looks beautiful and very calm. I didn't notice any stress after get home. Left our girlie here for 12 days while we took a much needed vacation. Longest we have ever left her. She was in excellent hands and when we checked in, we received personal updates. Ours is not a big eater and they went above and beyond to make sure she did. She absolutely loves the staff there which is significant because she is not a people person at all. Best Groomers Ever.  I now live in Brooklyn after living in Long Island City for 8 years.  Having experienced other local groomers here (not positive ones) I now take the time (and the ferry) to return to Pooches for Juliana and Tatiana.

This place has been a lifesaver. The staff picks up my dog mid-day and by the time I pick her up after work she's exhausted from running around for 5 straight hours. The staff is really friendly and are clearly great with the dogs- mine excitedly freaks out every time she runs into a Pooches employee on the street- and for just a few dollars more than a dog walker she gets 10x more exercise. Highly recommend to all, but for those with day jobs and particularly active dogs it's an absolute necessity.  I've been sending her for almost two years now and couldn't be happier. More...

Absolutely love this place. It’s the only place we trust our little dog with. She gets groomed here, stays overnight here when we go out of town. ..it’s perfect. We’ve continued going here for almost three years now. We loved the old management and we also love the new management. I remember years back there was an outbreak of kennel cough and this place handled it SO responsibly. Even though our dog caught it, we were totally cool about it. It was the same thing as your kid catching the flu from someone at school. The Pooches team kept us in the know and did all they could go remedy the situation even though it was beyond anyone’s control. The way they handled that really impressed us. We moved away from the area about a year ago, but we still make the time to take her here for grooming and doggy overnight camp. I highly recommend it. When I first moved into the neighborhood I was concerned by the previous reviews this place had. After finding out that the location has come under new management, I decided to take my dog, Khaleesi, for boarding here. To say the least, I have never seen Khaleesi so happy to go for boarding. She loves the people there and it's clear that the people at Pooches love her as well. The team at Pooches are highly flexible (a quick phone call and they will accommodate your needs from food, grooming, to extending  stays) and provide the best service I have ever received from a doggy daycare facility. I work a job that sometimes changes my schedule on the fly (to any other lawyers out there you know what I mean), so I am grateful for the help Pooches has been with taking care of my dog. The dogs in the back are well regulated and the team ensures that everyone gets along. This is a gem of a daycare and I cannot recommend a better place than this for the busy professional living in New York. More...

I came back to this business after Alex, the new owner, reached out to me on Yelp. Just the fact that he is making an effort to reach out to old customers goes to show that the business is already more service and community-minded than it has been in the past. The facility and front store area also look much nicer - better displays and overall better quality of products. To me, it also looks like there are more staff present in the doggie daycare area to clean up and interact with the animals throughout the day.Overall the new customer service is great and they did an absolutely superb job grooming on my goldendoodle, Lucy. The only glitch I encountered was that I made the appointment via phone for a full grooming (haircut, bath, nails, teeth, etc.) and even stopped in in-person the day beforehand to confirm. However, when I got to the appointment she was only on the schedule for the bath. It ended up being fine because they had time to give her the full treatment. I also would have liked to talk to the groomer, which is what I usually do at most places so I can make sure they know the specifics of what I want. They ended up doing a great job anyway, but for me I do like to have a relationship with the groomer directly. Overall, everything about this business seems to have improved, and the new owner says he is working hard to make even more improvements. I def look forward to bringing my dog back there again! ***Updated Review**** A few months back the new owner Alex reached out to me to let me know that him and his wife bought Pooches and Bruce is no longer involved . After the terrible experience I had here with Bruce in the past I was reluctant but there is no reason that a new local business owner should be punished for someone else negligence.I went down to the store and met Alex and his wife . They made renovations to the facility . It was clean, they had more staff and they checked for vaccinations . They seem to really care about the dogs and have great customer service . Gracie stayed for 5 nights . She looked like she had a great time and came home with a bath. He even texted photos and updated through the time . I am not one to post reviews, as this is my first yelp review ever.  That said, this is long overdue. I have been a customer of Pooches for many years and couldn't be happier with the current management and staff.  Alex (owner) took over about a year ago and has transformed this daycare/grooming facility into a 5 star staple in my pup's routine.  Their team is loving, flexible, responsive, tentative and truly cares for my fur baby as if she were their own.  Like many who work full time, I have "mom guilt" when I can't be there during the work day.  Pooches gives me piece of mind while away knowing she is in great hands.  Fantastic service and amazing staff! The new management here is fantastic.  I have lived in this neighborhood for three years and used to hate Pooches.  Now its awesome!  I have been taking my dog Winston here for boarding and grooming for a few months now and I am very happy with the services.  I am a terrible worry wart and I feel very comfortable leaving little Winny here overnight.  He tries to go into the store when we walk by now so I know it's an enjoyable place for him.  They also did a great job. Pooches is fantastic!  We have been taking Bailey here 1 - 2x a week for 9+ months to help out with long work days or to give her time with other dogs.  She loves going here, practically dragging me there, and is always greeted by name. The owner and staff are very friendly, gracious and wonderful to work with - even greeting Bailey on the street when we were just out for a walk. This place is truly the only place I would take my Dog. The staff is on point,friendly and very nurturing to the dogs. I had a family member visiting and they also lodged their dog and had him groomed. They did an amazing job and they make a point to have their dog groomed each time they come.So excited the ownership just changed. We love Bruce & Irina and the rest of the staff at Pooches! They have been so incredibly accommodating to us and patiently answer every question and concern we have with humor and years of experience to back up their advice. We brought Rocco to them when he was only 6 weeks old, as he unfortunately was taken from his litter mates and mother too young. They carefully mind him throughout the day and painstakingly go out of their way for him and us. We plan on continuing daycare and boarding Rocco occasionally with them as well, as our experience with Pooches has been nothing short of a Godsend for us and our peace of mind. Instead of being home alone in a crate all day or fenced in at home, Rocco is fed, petted, played with and near the hustle and bustle of the daycare. Bruce and Irina and the staff live this job everyday all day, it seems like they put their heart and sweat into caring for the neighborhood's dogs and their prices are very reasonable for the amount of time it covers and the pickup dropoff service they provide if you're in a pinch. Bruce also got us in touch with a wonderful dog trainer, Yuri, who teaches Puppy Obedience classes every Tuesday at the daycare. Rocco is now 9 weeks old and a rambunctious, happy, playful dog that is due in part to Pooches. Thanks guys! More...

We love Pooches. We drop off or have our pup, Daisy, picked up during the week while we are at work. Also sometimes on weekends and for overnights when we are out of town. Daisy is always really excited to go to doggy daycare, pulling on the leash to make it across the street into Pooches, and comes back happy and healthy. The staff are super accommodating. A lot of times I'm running late to work and I call all flustered asking for them to pick up/drop off Daisy and although I'm sure my last minute instructions make it more difficult on them they are always so nice and understanding!Pooches is very affordable and they are extremely organized. They have great deals when you buy packages, including an extra free day with half-day packages. Plus they pick up or drop off your dog for free.  Super convenient! They also have some of the cutest dog clothes that are so reasonably priced! Every time I look in (there are windows aligning the wall) I see the dogs playing and the workers lovingly petting the pups. Daisy loves to climb up in peoples' laps and I often see her being held for a moment and given a little hug. Overall we have been very happy and grateful for our experience with Pooches. More...

Ghost loves this place!  This review covers multiple visits including grooming between 2014 and 2016.  We have never had a problem with scheduling, picking up, drop off, etc.  Bruce is so friendly and very good with all the dogs.  Service is reliable and predictable and Ghost always gets excited to come, and depressed to leave (poor us!).  There are some negative reviews on here but I really want to come on here and say that I trust Bruce and his staff with Ghost's life and livelihood.  When there was a blizzard, and our flight home was likely delayed he took it upon himself not to drop off the dog as originally intended (we may not have been there), rather he proactively kept Ghost (rather than drop him off with no owners home for who knows how long). How thoughtful!  We did make it, and even though they were closed he answered and assured us that he was ok. Furthermore, he didn't even charge us for the extra day!I know there are negative reviews and yes, there was an outbreak of kennel cough here.  But this is really beyond the control of the owners. Guess what, shit happens!  That doesn't change the fact that they are engaged, competent and reliable.  We moved from this neighborhood and we are planning on boarding our dog here next week.  Bruce is great, smart, funny and very friendly and accommodating. This is by far the absolute best dog groomer and boarding I have ever encountered.  It's immaculate, the dogs get to interact and have fun! There are no cages.  They have beds for the dogs, it's adorable. Little faux fire hydrant on turf where the dogs can go pottie. Ingenious design! My toy poodle Bella absolutely loves this place. I can go on vacation and not worry I know that she is in good hands. What I also love about this place is that on grooming day you get free day care.  So Bella gets to play all day and then gets groomed. She loves this place and so do I. Pooches Sport & Spa is a super clean and friendly place. The staff is so nice and accommodating. The owners have tons of experience with dogs and take pride in their business. We recently moved to the area and started using the daycare for long work days and quick overnight trips. They pick our dog up and drop her off. Their staff has gone above and beyond for our dog. She is a senior and is not used to daycare. At first I was worried how she would adjust to the transition of daycare, but the staff were super sweet to her and made it fun. They also have a way of sectioning off areas if your dog needs a break or needs to eat. I would definitely recommend them to anyone living in the Long Island City area.
