Plant has an enjoyable low-key atmosphere while still providing one of the more creative and impressive menus in the Asheville area. Reservations are essentially a must, as you will see when you enter the cozy dining space, with the kitchen in full view. Expect to be close enough to neighboring tables to wonder why you didn't order what they did, a sensation that will pass once your own delightful meal arrives. Given that all of the food is not only vegetarian but vegan, if you aren't familiar with vegan cuisine and thought it was constricting and unexciting to be so limited, you'll leave with a different impression. I can't speak for every item on the menu, but we tried, honestly demolished it was so delicious, two of the small plates, two entrees, and dessert (this is the only place where I would try to steer you, the Blackout was absurdly good, though maybe the full dessert menu is as good), and every bit was wonderful. My wife and I were very excited to try this place after reading reviews on it. They are only open 5-10pm. We got to the restaurant at about 5:25pm and thankfully they were able to get us in. I'd recommend making a reservation because by 5:40, the entire place including the bar was packed out. The setting is romantic upscale. The menu is not very big so it's easy to decide and the staff is very friendly and helpful with decisions as well.We wanted to try a little bit of everything. We started with the Cheese Plate which was amazing. Between the 2 of us we cleaned it out! For our Entree we got the Ravioli which was on the small plate menu and consisted of 5 large Ravioli's. These were by far both of our favorites.The Grilled Beets were fantastic and was on the small plate, however I thought that it was a substantial amount of Beets. It's served on top of Horseradish Mayo and the 2 together creates an amazing taste!The Curry, consisted of Tofu, Rice, Cabbage, Sweet Potato's, Mushrooms, Roasted Bell Peppers, Sesame Seeds and Cucumber over a Peanut Curry. Beyond, FAR beyond, my highest expectations; Plant obliterates the need for categories such as excellent "vegan" food, as it is simply exquisite soul-lifting food all around. I didn't stop smiling the entire time. Every dish had flavor surprises that were unexpected and welcomed! My finale, a chocolate dish and side of peanut butter ice cream, was simply to die for. One word....fantastic! If you've ever been curious about vegan/vegetarian food then this is the perfect place to try. The atmosphere is very quaint and the staff very friendly and helpful. You need to make a reservation by phone or you'll end up waiting for a while. They have a decent drink menu with cocktails, wine and beer. We started off with the ravioli and "something nice and grits, the grits were by far the the best grits dish that I've ever had. I tried the curry that came with grilled vegetables, and rice with a delicious sauce that wasn't overbearing with curry. My wife had the smoked portabello that she really enjoyed. My husband and I are both vegan and came here for dinner while we were in Asheville. It was a cozy intimate space and everyone we interacted with was super nice and helpful. I have a couple of weird food allergies and they were able to make some recommendations and alterations and we had a delicious meal. The cheese plate was amazing, and the curry bowl had the perfect amount of spice and delicious flavor and texture contrast. Amazing food. Absolutely mind blowing. The vegan cheese plate is my favorite, closely followed by the ravioli and the toast. Our server was very friendly and made some good recommendations of other places to try. I loved the atmosphere as well, we were sitting close enough to other tables to chat about the food but far enough to chat amongst ourselves as well. Best vegan food I've ever had. Everything is just done so well and so thoughtfully. My only complaint would be I was still pretty hungry a few hours later, but it's just not the kind of place where the purpose is to get a full belly. Really amazing creative dishes. Each dish I was just blown away by the careful combination of flavors that created some sort of mind blowing masterpiece. The cheeses were great and repeated in some of the dishes we ordered. We got the cheese plate, CBD ravioli, rabe, raw lasagna, and a chocolate pie. I appreciated that the pesto wasn't garlic heavy, it was made with pistachio and an excellent combination of herbs. I just hate when restaurants overuse garlic. Chocolate pie was amazing. Half price wine bottles on Wednesday! But be prepared to spend a lot. This place requires a reservation. We really wanted to try this so we waited and sat at the bar. Our waitress Audrey was awesome. I highly recommend the ravioli as an app. The pesto is amazing. SEITAN CHILE CON QUESOAbsolutely outstanding!! One down side is the price and the amount of food u actually get. This dish was $20 and unfortunately I didn't get $20 worth of food. Then only to be served tap water. Come on guys. I was very disappointed about that. I'd only recommend going here on date night. But as far as taste goes..just amazing hands down!! Was hungry again 2 hours later. :/ Service was outstanding and the environment was an easy going one. Allison was our server and provided us with a Robb Report (look it up if you don't understand the reference) 5 star experience. And now the food. WOW....just WOW! A tantalizing mix of styles and flavors. We started with the Crispy Potatoes and the Something Nice Grits. Potatoes were spot on and the salsa verde was the perfect accent. Not many restaurants can get grits right but the Plant chefs pulled it off to perfection. Next was the Cheese plate. The magical flavors of the different cheeses, mixed with the golden beets and bread, was truly innovative and intoxicating. After devouring that we moved on to the Curry. Not as much curry broth as I like but a spectacular flavor. We ended the night with the creme brulee and carrot cake. Did I say WOW? Even though I didn't know what I was eating about 90% of the time I did know it was good 100% of the time. All kidding aside this place is just wonderful. A cozy dining area with friendly staff. The food was just a wonderful mix of flavor. The Chile con queso had just the right amount of heat and mixed well with the tamale that came with it. The creme brulee was wonderful and the chocolate bar with the dish was some of the best ive had. Would recommend this place to anybody who enjoys high level culinary meals.
