I began seeing Theresa to finally get help with the lifelong, complicated, and disordered relationship I had with food. Going into my first appointment, my shoulders were clenched up to my ears with anxiety and fear. I had no idea what to expect after a previous first appointment a few weeks before, with a different nutritionist who was less than helpful. I had actually emailed Theresa to explain that experience ahead of time, and she put me at ease. She assured me that she practiced nutrition differently, and that we'd be a great match for each other. Theresa was so upbeat and positive when we met, it immediately washed away the intimidation I was feeling. She only knew me for five minutes, but I could truly feel that she believed in me and my ability to heal, and that she knew she was going to be able to help me. Even though I couldn't yet believe in myself, I knew she was on my team and was rooting for me. She had such a different and calming approach to intake. It didn't make me feel like just a body that consumed food in a way that needed fixing. Rather than read me cold, impersonal questions off a checklist that made me feel guilty and self-conscious about my food rituals and behaviors, Theresa actually talked to me. She got to know me on a personal level and approached me as an entire person. She wanted to know the reasons why I struggled with food, and address those core fears- rather than just fix the surface behaviors and give me a meal plan. She taught me new ways of thinking about food and helped me learn a new vocabulary around food rather than "good," "bad," "healthy," "unhealthy." She gave me true, long-term advice that I was able to integrate seamlessly into my life and carry with me day-to-day. I feel so lucky to have been able to work with Theresa, and so appreciative of the work she put in with me. I am an endurance athlete with a history of medical and GI issues. While training for my last marathon I was having a lot of trouble finding the right nutrition plan to fuel my training and and not have digestive issues. Through food sensitivity testing, working through an elimination diet, and experimenting with different nutritional strategies and approaches we were able to nail down the right plan for my training and my lifestyle. I ran my last marathon with absolute success and highly credit Theresa for nailing down the right nutrition plan for me. She was highly professional, yet approachable, and was always available via email or phone. I have been through four dietitians within the last year prior to going to Philly Dietitian. Many of my previous experiences with them were primarily that they would just give me foods that I should eat in order to lose weight but never really talked about my understanding and relationship with food. I was referred to Philly Dietitian by my colleague and my experience has been nothing short of AMAZING. Philly Dietitian's has a pleasant demeanor, is engaging and is extremely responsive outside of your session if you have questions, and this intensified my positive experience. I can tell you that your sessions will be extremely productive and filled with conversations about how to make adjustments to your eating in stages. She is extremely knowledgeable about food, and was able to help me navigate my fitness schedule and food so that I'm not left feeling depleted. I was tired of being on a diet and Philly Dietitian counseled me on how to truly have food balance and still enjoy food. I quickly adapted to her approach and vision because it didn't feel like a diet and I could still have my treats but through planning and in moderation. Within the first few weeks I lost 10 pounds by making some of her adjustments. From start to finish, Theresa is thorough and realistic about her approach to nutrition and left me with a feeling of excitement toward my health goals. Theresa was recommended to me by a good friend who i train Muay Thai with. I came to her a month before my first fight needing to lose 10lbs while also fueling my body for very intense workouts. She helped me create a plan that accomplished my goals and also gave me the tools to eat properly as an athlete in the future. Your guidance and information has been so helpful to me. I weighed in at 134.4 today down from a high of 146 or 147 in early November. I had two beers and piece of cake on Saturday to celebrate my achievement and didn't gain any weight :) I feel like the way I'm eating now is really sustainable and intelligent and I don't feel really restricted. In less than one month Theresa has helped me significantly reduce my IBS symptoms, which I had trouble managing for the past year. She has helped me identify the variables that could have been triggering my symptoms and is now helping me develop a sustainable plan to further identify the specific foods that are irritating me. I am vegan and Theresa has been a great resource in identifying plant-based foods that don’t irritate my stomach and ensuring that I don’t feel restricted by what I can’t vs. can eat. I HIGHLY recommend using Theresa's services as she is LIFE changing! I've lost almost 15 lbs over the last few months while still being able to drink wine, eat pizza and ice cream. I love that Theresa is all about balancing your diet and if you fall off the wagon and have an extra cheat carb celebrating your birthday- no worries, you just get back into the grind. Theresa is a very straight forward, no-nonsense and will call you on your BS when it comes to your nutrition. She's also very understanding and wants to make sure you can have pizza every now and then and not destroy any progress you've made. Theresa is hands-down the best nutritionist I have ever met. She literally showed me how to cook in her own kitchen, what to look for while grocery shopping, how to manage cravings, how to think about dining out, how to practice "food favoritism" and so much more. She told me "nutrition is the only thing that protects your health" and then helped me see that in action. My entire perception of health and food has changed because of our sessions. I met with Theresa in November 2018 to discuss post-Partum weight loss. After the discussion we had, and the guidelines she gave me, I lost 7 pounds in three weeks! I went to see Theresa regarding constipation/ irregularity, she listened intently to my issues & thought of a good plan for me to follow, removed somethings from my diet & added others. We went over all my meal plans together until I understood, it wasn’t an overnight change in my bowels but over the months it has been a total 180. Since I started working with Theresa I have been able to eat healthier and stay on track to reach my weight loss goal, and I feel AMAZING!
