Grabbed lunch here before heading to the airport and I enjoyed the vibes. Both my dad and I started off with a cup of the lobster bisque, which was delicious and warm on a dreary, rainy day. Then, we both got the maine lobster roll and it was okay. The lobster seemed fresh and delicious! But I didn't love the seasoning and probably should have gone for the naked roll; additionally, I felt like it was an excess of bread for the amount of lobster given. Came here on a Friday night after visiting Filoli Gardens and had a great meal! My boyfriend and I shared a Double Play ($58) to each get a lobster roll, and I had the Maine, he had the Naked with mayo and butter. Great bread texture and fresh lobster- wonderful lobster roll in general! We came with our families (party of 8) and so I'm not sure if the service was different than usual, but they took our order after we found our seats at a couple tables. The guy who took our order seemed like the owner, and he was very helpful with explaining to us what the lobster roll situation is like. When they gave us the check, it didn't have a tipping option (which is why I suspect usually the ordering and payment happens at the front counter), but we tipped anyways by leaving some cash on the table. We came here at 1pm on a Wednesday-- ordered two bread bowls of clam chowder. As an East coast transplant, it's always the 'make it or break it' menu item for me. It totally delivered-- it was tasty, comforting, and I was so excited that they toasted the lid of the bowl-- nice detail.The lovely gentleman who took our order and served us was also constantly wiping down tables (it was immaculate in there). Picked up a couple of things from here the other week. Have no idea why this place has so many good reviews. Maybe the kitchen/cook was having a bad day when we ordered. The fried clams were the worse thing we'd tasted in many years. Didn't realize that by not paying a huge amount of money for the clam bellies we ended up with a container full of greasy rubbery wet cardboard tasting pieces. My husband threw them out after we'd tried 2-3. The "naked" lobster roll came with Mayo mixed into the small amount of meat instead of on the side and the roll was barely toasted. The fish (couldn't recall if it was haddock or what) wasn't bad. Honestly, I was excited to try this place, first thing I noticed were prices on the food seemed a little higher then normal which I was ok with since I was getting lobster Mac and cheese I thought sure why not. To say I was underwhelmed would be an understatement. The Mac and cheese would have been better out of the box. They need to learn how to season food. Absolutely delicious! We got the fried shrimp with fries and a bread bowl with clam chowder. The clam chowder is actually one of the better tasting ones I've had in a long time but my only one critique would be the bread bowl wasn't hollowed out enough, so there was maybe 1/3 cup of soup maybe less and I had to buy a whole separate thing of soup. Best of best Lobster places! Their lobster seasoned appropriately, not ruining its delicate flavor. I usually order raw oysters and a glass of chardonnay to enjoy while waiting for my lobster roll. Sitting outside (the atmosphere is not necessarily great because it is facing the parking lot) and feeling relaxed, the lobster roll of buttery bread is brought. It is my favorite moment. We ordered the fried oyster basket, fried shrimp basket, lobster bisque, and pan seared scallops. They were expensive, but not unusually so for quality seafood. Unfortunately, the food quality here did not match the price. First of all, I've never seen such small fried oysters in my life -- maybe 1/4 or 1/6 the size one would typically expect. There wasn't enough oyster inside the breading to provide much taste. The shrimp were normal size, but had so much tasteless breading they weren't appealing. Decided to stop by here with the hubby before our Sunday Fundate to Costco and well, it was great! Customer service was really spot on! The cashier helped us with our selections and a gentleman was always checking on us if we needed anything. Great staff! Cleanliness: really clean place and well organizedFood quality: it was good! I had just finished my two hour Indiana Jones, Dora the Explorer adventure/shopping at Ross. I realized I had not eaten all day. I looked around and wasn't necessarily feeling the restaurants nearby. I came in and Brian helped me & rescued me from my ever-indecisiveness. Their BBQ is smoked (they literally have a smoker) and not half-ass grilled. They also have awesome sauce, great buns... Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Old Port Lobster Shack! A bit pricey for the lobster but everything else was reasonable and delicious. Service was great too. Even though it's called Old Port Lobster Shack they should add "and BBQ" to the sign as they do this as well. Brisket is pretty dry but I loved the baked beans. Definitely can be considered a hole in the wall, in the best way possible. Approaching and looking at it you would not expect what you actually get from this place. Decor fits with the Shack theme and service is down to earth homely feeling. The food is superb! Does not lack in anyway that I can think of. Seasoning and flavor is there and takes you beyond.
